I understand part of your argument. Afghanistan had a left leaning government in the 1970s. Women were 50% of university students and held professional jobs. The Reagan administration wanted to destabilize that government by working with and arming the mujahideen (the forerunners of the Taliban) to start a civil war. It worked and we got the Taliban in 1996. How did that workout for the US?

If your goal is to get your army out of Afghanistan I don't see many options. If you first take 50% of the troops out of the country, you will leave a weak army behind and they will get attacked by the Taliban and many will die. If you take out 100% of troops, you will still get attacked by the Taliban, but the American casualties will be low. Or am I mistaken?

He seems like he is really trying to compromise and to be optimistic, but I think it’s over for him. Even if some of the Taliban leadership are slightly sympathetic to the idea of reform, I really don’t see these ideas being universally accepted. Authoritarian regimes don’t need to compromise with anyone if they’re willing to crack down hard enough.
Remember that when Obama said that US troops would leave without a n agreement signed, Karzai contemptuosly dismissed the US president and said, "No they won't leave." Obama did not leave. US trained these insurgents to fight against Soviet Union, then left them when their interest was over, even turning against them. I understand part of your argument. Afghanistan had a left leaning government in the 1970s. Women were 50% of university students and held professional jobs. The Reagan administration wanted to destabilize that government by working with and arming the mujahideen (the forerunners of the Taliban) to start a civil war. It worked and we got the Taliban in 1996. How did that workout for the US?

If your goal is to get your army out of Afghanistan I don't see many options. If you first take 50% of the troops out of the country, you will leave a weak army behind and they will get attacked by the Taliban and many will die.
If you take out 100% of troops, you will still get attacked by the Taliban, but the American casualties will be low. Or am I mistaken?

Karzai is a citizen of Afghanistan as he says but he is the Afghan who has played the biggest role in bringing about the prevailing situation. He says the people of Afghanistan welcomed Taliban rule. He must specify which Afghan because Afghanistan is the country of various tribes and people of different cultures with different mentalities. Kandahari Pashtuns as everyone can see call only their Kandahari Pashtuns as the nation of Afghanistan. People of Afghanistan want a national elected government, which will rule per civil laws and a nationally approved constitution.

The way we pulled out was terrible, for taxpayers, military who sacrificed, and most of all the afghan people who didn't want Taliban rule. It's also disgraceful to flee your people with millions, what a leader you are!!

He seems like he is really trying to compromise and to be optimistic, but I think it’s over for him. Even if some of the Taliban leadership are slightly sympathetic to the idea of reform, I really don’t see these ideas being universally accepted. Authoritarian regimes don’t need to compromise with anyone if they’re willing to crack down hard enough.
