There is one in my neighborhood and when it goes by my wife thinks the sound is annoying.... Geez!! Someday I hope to be able to also build a Cobra and I guess I will be annoying her everyday. Haha. Great Job!!
Thank You so much for the video. I am in the process of building a circa '99 LSC kit that sat unstarted for this many years. There's some odds and ends missing and no directions, but your video and timeline has become a useful tool for me. Your car turned out great and with some luck, mine will too.
At well over 6 feet and approaching 300 pounds a Cobra, even in my younger days was a no go. Carroll Shelby wasn't a small guy, and he fit. But I tried and didn't. Immaterial as I never had the money for one. And the guys wanting a big block? Well, when they build their own they can use whatever they want. But the performance of a modern "built" 351 Windsor rivals the 427 unless the SOHC engine which are like hens teeth. Rare. And hard to tune. The weight savings is good for handling and braking and the engine compartment is tight even with the small block. I LOVE that car. Well done. No advice from me. I'm guessing my expertise dims in comparison to the builders of this sweet thang. Thems that can, do. Thems that can't give advice.
That's the same make I have! A beautiful blue one with white stripes. A LoneStar 427. Mines a 2001. Built originally in Houston TX, bought by the previous owner from AZ. He sold it to a dealer in Las Vegas 4 yrs ago. I made an offer 2 years ago from that dealer in Las Vegas, cuz it had no bites. Drove it home to SoCal, put another 10 grand into fixing everything... Now it's back in TX by San Antonio where I moved close to... Back in its birthplace! I love the looks I get when I rumbles past everyone. So bad@$$...
very neatly built.... i m sure u enjoyed building it far more than i enjoyed watching it....but your video truly made me feel a part of your build.... awesome stuff
Big CONGRATS on a successful Project...and a Family Treasure to keep for a Lifetime! I HOPE that YOU can do a Project like this with YOUR kids in future years!
hehehe, what a incredible car, but i would like to make mine with an electric motor, incredible design and lines make this car one of the best classic of all times but more than that, this is a extraordinary document about the effort and works of a family and their friends, all the images was good but the pic in the minute 16:40 to 16:42 resume everything: mission accomplished, all efforts rewarded, father and son together congrats, dudes, long live for yours ;)
carloko08 if you want to build a cobra with electric motors you’ve missed the point by millions of miles..How millennial of you Don’t think about putting an electric motor in a cobra fascinating how the mind works though. But you can buy a kit and do one won’t you just put a Chevy engine and one everybody wants to do an LS swap that’ll get everybody’s attention that’s what you really want
Not Too Shabby, What Brand Kit Is That? & Watcha Got In That SBF.??Stock 302? 351w // with the Ol GT 40 Heads . I Had A Few Of Them. Not To Mention Some 351 Boss Heads . Built Two Boss 429s With My POP Way Back In the day. There was a minute there when you could actually run that motor in a NASCAR modified open wheel it never came to fruition but good times
thanks for the vid I have a lone star cobra since mine didn't come with instructions your production is a big help I could send a few pics of my progress
Great work, but I did not see Dynamat or Boom-mat before carpeting...????..It'a must for any build, and what kind of bushings you used for the all chassis...???on my Volvo V70R turbo build,I did that and it feels like driving a luxury sedan......!!!!Polyurethane bushings are great too for handling.
Hi David, congratulations on taking the challenge! You will be pleased with your outcome. Yes, I have the car - it is part of the family now. Glad we did it, no regrets. Cons? not sure I can list any that would really be meaningful. This is an experience. I just wish more people had the opportunity to do what you are now doing! JH
thanks for sharing. Did you base your chassis structure on plans or diagrams, Would you have any reference file or something to have the dimensions frame ?
give me a break. Its fiberglass, it has a small block in it, it has a solid rear axle, it has completely different suspension design and geometry. It has lug nuts to hold the wheels on, there's a fucking cupholder for christ sake and you are going to complain about the steering wheel?
@@imbadwrench well I wasn't never going to say anything about the steering wheel. But with your comment I can't help but to say I was thinking the same thing. But hey what do I do I know right. Member of Cherokee Regional Mustang Club senior car show Judge. But this is indeed a very good build that I enjoyed watching. Instead of people putting down something that someone else built maybe the right thing to do would be to ask if you had it to do over again what would you have done differently. Respect people respect.
Theres different kinds of respect. I respect the fact that guy built his own car the way he wanted it. I would not have done much differently, subtle changes. But my first 2 cars had the same "cheap" grant wheel in it and I am quite comfortable with them. I don't get the "keep it original" kitcar guys. there were so few actual cobras made that you just know every one you see is a kit. no use getting upset about it.
Congrats on a very fine build! My only con remark is about the chassis. It looks like it must weigh over a thousand pounds by itself. No attempt by the designer to reduce unnecessary weight. Weight is a performance killer. Check out FFR website. They do it right. Still, a very fine build!
Robert Beck it actually only weighs about 300 lbs.It has been very well engineered and tested. 1250lb/ft of torque was applied before it moved 1 degree of deflection. In my opinion, UCC builds the best Cobra Replica kits. No donor car parts at all. That's why I purchased one. I am currently building mine.
Yea, but to make UA-cam happy, you need to conform to their standards....i am ok with that. Not what I would prefer, but what i had to use that was approved at the time.
The car is too high and the steering wheel doesn't mach at all, also that silver paint looks good but it's just a very common color there are more beautiful color to choose from
Luis - The frame and wheel were standard in the LCS427 package. i painfully struggled on the color. In the end, i am a simple man - too much flash does not fit my personality.
Sorry about that - trying my best not to lose control behind the wheel - much invested here - it will spin the tires in 3 of the 5 gears. Have heard many horror stories....
Hello good afternoon. my name is dalmiro, I'm from Argentina. I am in a family project where we will develop a shelby cobra. Previous days I saw the video on UA-cam and wanted to contact them due to the question of whether they could help me with the chassis. such as measures, materials and others. in a few words the plane to be able to build it. from now on I appreciate any help you can give me. excellent work with the car, congratulations.
A nice car in its own right, but not a very accurate Cobra. Like MOST replicas--with rare exceptions such as ERA--it has a dimensionally incorrect body. The profile has some 3-4 extra inches added under the doors. No real '60s Cobra ever had that bloated, "pregnant" look. Because there are so many more replicas with this look than real Cobras, people have come to think that this is an accurate Cobra appearance, but it isn't.
I know the history of the real Cobras but they were very dorkie looking automobiles even for the 60's...sorta like building a Nissan Cube with a big b lock Chevy in it. Looks like a toad with wheels...
There is one in my neighborhood and when it goes by my wife thinks the sound is annoying.... Geez!! Someday I hope to be able to also build a Cobra and I guess I will be annoying her everyday. Haha.

Alan - GO FOR IT !!! & Thanks !
Great job. I'm sure memories will always be there with your young boy. Worth every cent and minute to do this together.
so right!

That shiny engine and trans is a beauty.

Great job documenting something special!

I love Cobras too, but could never fit in one, or most of the other really fun cars.
So well put! Thanks for helping the community understand it.
Maybe some day you will !
it’s nothing more than
*AWESOME!*

Gorgeous car. Would love to get a chance to try and build one myself.
That day may well be in your future!

That is exactly why I made the video! Good Luck.

joe coquerre it's a pre-fabricated Factory Five kit, it comes with everything
Padding was installed 1st. The carpet followed.
Beautiful car
Thanks !
Gear heads !!!!!! Awesome
Thanks !
TALENTED KID...SELL IT AND BUILD ANOTHER ONE JMO
Right On !!
Nice What kit is this?
Ultimate Classic Cars (was Lone Star Classics when I bought it)
waaoovvv super super projeck bravoo ...my favoritt project
Thanks !
Hot Car! 👍👍👍
Thanks!
Do you still have this car?
Are you happy with it?
Pros?
Cons?
Absolutely. It's All good !
J Herrin
I ask because I'm currently building my Ultimate Classic Cars kit now. Any tips or pitfalls to avoid would be most appreciated.

Thank you Luiss!
thanks for sharing. Did you base your chassis structure on plans or diagrams,
Would you have any reference file or something to have the dimensions frame ?
Call the folks at Ultimate Classic Cars - they may be able to help you.
GREAT video Mr Herrin. Enjoyed the music also
Thank you Mr Bill - hope to see you soon - again at the studio!
I love your choice of paint job,but why the cheap Grant steering wheel? A wood rimmed Nardi would have been much more period correct.
give me a break. Its fiberglass, it has a small block in it, it has a solid rear axle, it has completely different suspension design and geometry. It has lug nuts to hold the wheels on, there's a fucking cupholder for christ sake and you are going to complain about the steering wheel?

Thanks !
As Jay would say " nicely done" what do you reckon she owes you in total?
60k
Nice. Good wheel selection.
Thanks !
Felicitaciones desde Ecuador, los mejores deseos.
Yea - that 's what I thought too....
Where did you find the chassis
Note the credits at the end of the video.
What was the total cos tof the build if you dont mind me asking
60K
I was looking a factory five kit. How would you rank this kit?
Korn Story , i took note to the differences in frame design between a FFR frame and this company....might want to start there
I do not have any comparative - have only built one car. Overall, satisfied with the LSC - now Ultimate Classic Cars.
7 to 8 out of 10. ...there can always be more information to work with....as a newbie.
Korn Story FFR uses donor car parts and a lot of frame braces because their chassis is weak. UCC is a much better kit and better engineered.
What motor and transmission did you put on?
Did you watch the video ??? ...to the end???...
Check the credits list at the end of the video...
how many days do you spend for build this car
2 years
2 years - weekends only. Estimate of 400 hours.
AND THE END TOTAL ?
About 60k
Cost before paint?
under 60k
No IRS ?
Was not available at the time...
how much it cost
60K

Thank you. This one is 1800 lb total weight fully loaded. I am not racing this car. I drive it for fun!
David - Glad To Hear It ! You will love this car !!!
If I had built a Cobra instead of Super late models stock cars I will still have my investments and could retire, Good job overall
Thanks
The welding of the parts is grandiose......
So True !
Hi am in North Miami and am looking for someone to fix my cobra. Any cool mechanic or part timers out there?
Good luck to you on that. You might search for a local cobra club forum.
What kit was this?
Ultimate Classic Cars in Texas - use to be Lone Star Classics back when we bought the kit
what wheels??
American - the company is out of business now
I thank it cool
Thanks !
Awesome color combo. Go sooner’s
Thanks!
my bad nice paint job
Thanks !

Yea, but to make UA-cam happy, you need to conform to their standards....i am ok with that. Not what I would prefer, but what i had to use that was approved at the time.
Does compare to a factory five not even close
I did consider them, but wanted the extra leg room of the Lone Star Classic (now Ultimate Classic Cars)

very cool // BUT BAD ~mirror~ of paint
jambrest you have bad taste
It is true I asked for a reflective finish. My bad?
omg paint it
See my previous response on paint selection....
Why do all that work and Not Put a 427 in it? Lol
Yea, hear ya, but a thimble on holds so much. VERY tight under the hood.
" but a thimble on holds so much".?..not sure if i understand that lol But either way. Beauty car you have there
Well it was looking good till I saw that Edelbrock carb. You might as well put a Buick motor in there.
I have considered going to fuel injection....but I already have more HP than I can use for city driving.

Nice job but a cobra needs knock-off wheels, with lug nuts you lose the look of the big money cars, it like a Rolex with ticking sec movement.
I understand. They were not offered in this LSC 427 package....had too many maintenance issues with them.
