  • Eating for $35 A Week
    Day 2 Menu:
    Breakfast:
    Instant iced coffee with creamer
2 slices of toast with 1/2 a can of pork n beans
    Lunch:
Leftover Ham & bean soup served over rice with 1/2 a turkey and ham sandwich
Chips for a mid-day snack Pink lemonade to drink throughout the day
    Dinner:
    Taco Mac
To a small pot add 1/2 a cup of taco soup broth, 1/2 a cup of water. Bring to a boil then stir in 1/2 a cup of uncooked macaroni. Cover and simmer for 8 minutes. Stir in 1 tablespoon of cheese powder and 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Top with 1/2 a cup of beans, tomatoes, and corn mixture from soup. Add sour cream if desired
I attempted to make a French vanilla rice pudding with the extra creamer packets that wasn't as good as I had hoped. Will table that one for a future video perhaps.

Re: the "failed" rice pudding - Never worry about the missteps as part of your experiments. It's still there for giving ideas to your audience, especially if someone might have more of a taste for it than you do, or if they may have a different ingredient here or there than you may have used. The ideas are just as important as the successful dishes.

As a kid my mom used to make sweet rice for breakfast and we ate it like oatmeal, just add a splash of milk, butter and sugar to a bowl of warm rice. I actually thought the idea of savory rice was weird well into adulthood 😂

I’m American and haven’t had it your guys’ way since I visited 20 years ago, because I don’t think they make vegetarian beans in tomato sauce here like you guys have it there (I’m vegetarian). I’ve just been eating it in the molasses style sauce as a staple ever since I came back from trip, and love it all the same! Have you ever tried it with the beans in an American style sauce? Just curious. :)

I think fried rice is originally from china and does traditionally use soy sauce, but in Japan we don't use soy sauce to make fried rice because of the concern it will make the rice mushy to add liquids (japanese rice is already sticky). Instead we use a powder mix that's sold in packets in the supermarket. The technique I use is I microwave leftover rice (it seperates better in the pan if it's microwaved first), heat oil in a pan and add the rice, stir-fry for just a minute or two, then put beaten eggs directly on top and mix it in, cooking until all wet egg is cooked. Traditionally I believe you're supposed to move the rice out of the way and scramble the egg in litle chunks, but I love the texture of the rice with the egg mixed in, it keeps the rice soft but also helps the grains seperate, and there are no unexpected chunks of egg in your mouth. At this point you turn off the heat, mix in the seasoning packet, and you're done. Japanese fried rice usually doesn't contain meat or vegetables beyond some tiny flakes of scallions or tiny dried baby shrimp in some of the spice packets. When you don't have a spice packet, chicken bullion powder, garlic salt and pepper is a close substitute!

The Scottish eat pork & Beans almost every meal.🤣😂 When I was broke, I made a dish with leftover rice, any meat in the fridge and baked beans adding a tiny bit of ketchup, worcestershire sauce, a small dollop of mustard and any seasonings you like. Maybe even a dab of bell pepper and fresh onion if you have it. This was our go to meal when we had to clean out the fridge or just plain broke. 🥰 It really was good.

You could make a strata with ham, cheese, eggs and broccoli.
The rice pudding may appeal to you more when it has chilled. You could put a dallop of pb&j on it. My kids loved it when they were small.
You could make grilled cheese with a fried egg or stuffed French toast with ham n cheese too. If you can get honey or syrup you could make a honey mustard which could give another option.
A room temp egg, some pantry oil and some mustard whipped with an immersion blender makes a great scratch mayonnaise.

Hi there, a British subscriber here! I am working my way through your back catalogue of videos and was particularly interested when I saw beans on toast in the thumbnail. Yes us Brits LOVE our beans on toast, it's the ultimate cheap comfort food. However I feel it's more of a lunch option rather than breakfast, for me at least. The British equivalent to pork and beans is baked beans and pork sausages. This is another difference between the two nations as we like a 'banger' (as in 'bangers and mash') and you prefer breakfast sausage, or what we would call sausage meat here. I saw you did a version of "bangers and mash' using smoked sausage from DG in one of your other videos , so at least you know what a 'banger' is, lol.

Loved the mac n cheese with the taco soup...that actually looked amazing. I really like the tomato, corn, bean and rice combination with anything. Your meal idea's are super satisfying too! One of my absolute favorites is your Chicken A La King Casserole with the biscuits on top~ I make it every week. Can't wait to try beans on toast ~ sounds like a great breakfast idea for me ~ you're saving us so much money❤

So I just found your channel when you started meal prepping for the senior lady and her son (I’m the British lady that suggested a fish pie 😊) and because I enjoyed your content I’ve been watching a few of your videos, well a lot LOL, but anyway, the beans on toast thing, because I live in the states but I’m from England you’re right about the beans, maple, sugary an all that sweet flavour but not the staple for beans on toast, the closest thing to baked beans is the van camp pork n beans or any shop brand for the same kind BUT you have to butter your toast with butter or margarine and then add a blob of it to the beans, this thickens them up to be more like Heinz baked beans. On dry toast it’s not the same. You need buttered toast at least and if you can a blob in the beans to make them thick and creamy. That’s what makes the traditional beans on toast. Give it another whirl 😁 if not for a video but to try it yourself. Cheap and cheerful and a huge staple even now in England, just like jacket potatoes and beans with lots of butter. Baked Beans and cheese on toast or in jacket potatoes is another big hit because it’s flavorful and cheap. Even now. I still see it on the cafe menu’s when I visit my family. Also jacket potatoes and tuna mayonnaise…another biggy 😁 I dare you to buy another tin of beans and add butter to your toast and add grated cheese to your beans in a pan and melt and combine it and completely top your toast! It’s amazing! I promise you 😁 it’s so cheap but fixe it a try!!

Another awesome video! I have a breakfast suggestion for you This is great if you are in a hurry. It is very simple and quick. just make toast as you normally would do. Add butter or margarine and sprinkle powder Jello on it. I like the Orange one, but if you like you can combine them. Orange with Lemon etc...

Growing up we often ate what we called.. (rice and raisins) mom cooked raisins along with the rice. We then (in a bowl added a little sugar and milk) wasan absolute favorite. I especially loved dipping toast with jelly in it.
We also had lima beans over buttered bread.

My mom is a huge rice pudding lover but personally I dislike rice in any sweet recipe. However, in an effort to make my mom happy AND me too I found a sub in for myself. If you toast bread up very dry like you were making croutons, if you then soak that in a mix of an egg, a splash of milk I actually use one of those little half and half cups from a diner and then you mash your rice up or blend it actually, and you top it with the toast cubes, then pour the egg cream mix on top. Then I sprinkle a raw sugar packet on top with a dash of either cinnamon or a tiny tad of nutmeg. And I cook mine in my air fryer and it's a great dessert alone or with some ice cream even. It's the only way I can stand rice as a dessert. I also use chopped nuts at times it's all about preference. Hope this helps!
Thank you for your videos. Keep doing just what you are! You're a gem!!

A rice pudding suggestion, a fragrant rice like jasmine or basmati can help with the flavor bc they dont have that plain white rice flavor. I like to get carolina jasmine rice when i can, it has a naturally sweeter/more floral taste that works well in desserts. any brand of jasmine or basmati rice will do though.

I really like Ranch beans on toast. I also like Ranch beans with pasta. Really quick, throw-together meals with two ingredients. And Van Camps pork and beans are the only ones I'll eat. They are the best.

A really good thing is Buy a chunky can of like steak or meat soup and serve over rice and add a sprinkle of cheese and if you like a dollop of sour cream and also could add crunched up tortilla chip or chips on top. It very filling.

The beans on toast is fun for me as an American. I've heard of melting mozzarella cheese and adding diced tomatoes to add a little something else to it. I like broiling the mozz on top.

You can also elevate the beans on toast by cooking it with the liquid on the stove to thicken up. Optional to season with black pepper, and ketchup (packets if you have) 😊

you have 1/2 can of Pork & beans (if you don't want to do another breakfast with it) or 1/2 can of Ham & Bean soup or 1/2 can of chili to use to make another soup using all or part of a can of vegetable, cook the rice but don't drain the rice and then add everything else to the rice and heat before removing from heat add a little of the deli ham chopped up

I picked up eating beans on toast from a YT program called JOLLY. I like to add syrup to the toast before adding the beans for a sweet version or heat up some chunks of salami or italian sausage and add those for a more savory version. Definitely inexpensive and filling.
