When I was in college, many years ago, I worked in a liquor store in Manhattan. Now, the store had many, many high end clients, none nicer than Madeline. She always made a point of personally coming into the store and tipping the guys who made deliveries to her home. She went out of her way to know my name. She told me that she knew the value of working for tips; sharing her own college stories. She was true class and I think of her kindness often.
My wonderful wife Janey died from ovarian cancer on the 23 of May 21. We were together for 52 years. She was my best friend and wise councillor and I miss her very much.
I hate Ovarian Cancer. It took away my two favorite funny ladies (Madeline and Gilda), and it took away my mother at age 49 (I was ten at the time). Everything they said about OC being indistinguishable from any number of routine “realities” women face, like the bloating and the missed periods, is true and my mother was no exception. She thought she was pregnant (at 49!) but soon discovered the cancer was inoperable. Seven weeks later she was gone. OC doesn’t give you any time to understand it let alone reconcile yourself with it. It just takes them away. RIP Madeline, RIP Gilda, RIP Gerry

I bet Bill Cosby was nervous that he'd loose her, that she would leave the show. Pure elegance and goddess grace resides in her. She's one in million.
Madeline's Husband broke my heart. I watched Madeline through my teenage years, she never failed to my me smile and laugh, I feel she was genuine. I see clips of her comedy scenes, i laugh, i cry.

Saw her more as competition than as her daughter...sad. I'm going to look this book up. (As an aside, there is a cute clip of Madeline singing an echo song with Grover on "Sesame Street" linked to the article I mentioned. Her voice is amazing!)
Some actors have the capacity to touch you, and make an impression. And when they pass, they take a little bit of you with them. Madeline was such a person. It's why when you get old, and so many people you loved and admired have passed, the oblivion of ones own death feels like a release. But I'm only 64, and I'm planning my future. A future that better people than me never got. I could die tomorrow, or maybe in 30 years, but whilst I'm alive, I'll share my memories of Madeline.

Ms, Kahn was also surrounded by certain friends who seemed to want to "cling" on to her all the time, like "Gail" very very odd, may Madeline Kahn rest in peace.
Cosby was the American version of a Britcom called One Foot in the Grave. Overall Cosby was pretty subpar compared to the British version except for Madeline. She blew her British counterpart out of the water! If she could have starred in the original, it would have been like having a dream team of comedians. I wish I'd discovered her earlier in life.
Unless I missed it, I wonder why they didn't mention her performance in Clue. I know it wasn't one of her most famous projects, but it was the first time I saw her. I watched the movie because I noticed her character in the commercial and thought it would be interesting. I thought she played a great part!
One of my favorite comedians along with peter sellers, Monty Python and of course Mel brooks ! And many many others but Madeline Kahn was so darn funny !
I "fell in love" with Miss Kahn watching her in "What's Up Doc", (I think, at Radio City Music Hall?). I made sure to see all of her work that was available before & certainly watched everything she'd done after "Doc". She was a comic genius and like someone very close to me who had fought ovarian cancer for 5 yrs.& passed in 1985, Miss Kahn, (they both), died, so very young.It was the same story, no signs, just regular aches that mimicked a woman's monthly cycle. 1985 & 1999. We're now in 2021 & has modern medicine made ANY strides against this disease? It is sad, frustrating & maddening that we hv not seen cures or meds to retard the progression. One thing that was surely good for Madeline; her husband & her family. It is so different when you face such horror & have a strong, loving hand to hold. May this lovely hilarious light Rest In Peace. She's left us with immeasurable amounts of laughter to be had.

She was such a big part of the entertainment world in the 70s & 80s. You could always catch her in a movie or a TV performance. I consider myself so lucky to have seen so much of her great body of work....so being my age isn't so bad! Madeline was beautiful and funny and made anything better by being in it.

When Madeline came on camera, she had that magical quality that only a few have, of making me laugh out loud, spontaneously, before she uttered a single word. No I about her personal life now, I find her even more endearing. I teared up and they talked about her death.
This was not "The Cosby Show"/The Huxtables, which ran from 1984-92. Madeline was on "Cosby", a show about the working class Lucas family and their friend "Pauline Fox" played by Madeline, which aired on CBS, and ran from 1996-2000. Madeline was on "Cosby" from 1996 until her passing in December 1999. Without her, the show ended the next season in Spring (April) 2000. Phylicia Rashad played Bill's wife again, but only after Telma Hopkins had to be let go during rehearsals because she couldn't keep up the with ad-libbing that Cosby required of this cast mates. In a rush to find a replacement that could ad-lib and be funny, Phylicia was brought in. Bill said that Telma wasn't fired bc she wasn't a good actresss, but bc a lot of actors can't "catch" him in ad-libbing and just go with it without a script, per se, but Madeline was the only actor that he ever had to "catch" bc she was so good at creating funny scenes on the spot, out of thin air.
