I would love to see you do a series on self-portraits. I'm just afraid.. of letting myself be that vulnerable, but should give it a try. You go, girl!!! I admire your work!

Aww thanks so much. The vulnerability comes with lots and LOTS of practice… but the awesome thing about self portraits is they can just be for you. You don’t have to share them with anyone.

Hey Lana, I’m glad to see you’re “back”.
I would love to see a studio tour that would focus on *filming tips* such as light, camera types, camera angles that are both pleasant for the viewer but also don’t get in the way of drawing and other tips you find relevant.
With that being said, I understand if it’s too invasive of your personal space.

Great video! My favorite one of your photoshoot series is the one with the towel, I can see a painting there right away. I do paint self portrait, but I have to say that my big turning point in that practice was when I started to do it from mirror. That changed everything in my approach to self portrait, on top of being a great way to practice painting from life.

I really liked the one with the feel but I feel it looks the least like me…: hmm…I also love working from a mirror, and most of the ones I shared in my video came from working from a mirror. Sometimes I feel limitation in what poses and expressions I can hold though, so for this one I wanted to take photos for reference

@@LanaGloschatArt Yeah I understand, specially if you say that your hair is a big part of your identity. I feel the same about the limitation in term of poses and expression for the mirror. That would be the only down side if there was one. Photos ref are great for things too hard to capture from life! Like moving things or funny faces ^^

Great video, thank you for your perspective and insight into doing self portraits. Even using video and screencap that, hadn't thought of it. I'm an artist and considering doing some myself but haven't heard this take on it. Also if I had to pick a moment, it immediately jumped out at 6:59. There's a brief moment of beautiful you as you figure out the next thing and I feel like it was that moment that I'd pick.

I am so glad you enjoyed it! I went back and checked led out 6:59 and love your perspective. Still haven’t decide which of these moments I want to draw but I love hour idea. Thanks so much

Thanks for this. Self portraiture as discovery and affirmation, so important.
About your arm-too-short painting… I thought to suggest cutting it down and reframing it head and shoulders, but perhaps the arm-too-short is an important part of your journey as an artist.

Thanks for watching and I am so glad you found value in it! I’m not sure that I even have the original painting anymore. From my time in college I kept photos and tossed the rest… it’s just funny that that’s what I always pay attention to now. Are you going to do a self portrait?! 😊

@@LanaGloschatArt I have done them in the past; quite busy right now with my current projects but I may dip into a couple self portraits as a break. Cheers 🙂

lovely vid, al your paintings and pics are great, even if your arm is short
your friend is probably missing out on a great niche for her yoga teaching, but i also can understand the reluctance and overwhelm and anxiety.
ok, i need to try the 100 heads thing, consistently.... definitely could try a self portrait challenge... note that i say "could". i would give it a lot of consideration. i definitely want to up my portraiture skills.

Thanks so much! I agree, I also understand her overwhelm and anxiety because I have been in spaces like this before too. I hope you try the 100 heads challenge... maybe throw a self portrait in there and see how it feels. :) Thanks for watching and for your comments. I am thrilled to have you here.

All good concepts. However, I don't enjoy looking at myself, so it would be more of a chore, which does not motivate me. I'm way less down on myself than I was when I was younger, but even though I think I look fine, I don't really want to look at me.

    • @LanaGloschatArt

I understand that. I am not one that spends time looking at myself or primping. But I do like to draw myself. Its not a form of vanity, its a way of getting to know myself... but thats me and that might not be for everyone.
