    Like a lot of ppl I initially saw Malcolm X the way the media portrayed him. After reading the autobiography, listening to all the speeches and watching the interviews it was clear that he was one of the greatest leaders of modern times. A fearless man willing to fight and put his life on the line for a cause bigger than himself. His story is one of personal change and conviction, human values, sacrifice, and real talk.

    yes, the pendulum step is one of them, it has to be a part of all your training. The other is a footwork drill where you shift your weight and step, shift left and step left and vice versa. its hard to explain, I teach it in my footwork instructional video.

    this makes sense, in fact its similar to what I used to do, I liked to fight on the outside where I could and then work my way in sporadically. I never fought like a Tyson or Juan Diaz where I always was coming forward. I am a proponent of working on different styles and mixing them and applying them where possible to keep your opponent guessing. As well sometimes you have to mix it up if one style is not working against a particular individual.

    you have to know how to block or slip each punch. Once you can do that the counter is right there for you, its built in. Then pick which counters you like and practice them religiously. Its like how some baseball pitchers have a good fastball, a good curveball, a good offspeed pitch. it depends on what you like and what you practice.

    • @HMtheWaterMan
      @HMtheWaterMan 10 років тому

      JT Van V I got a question for you since you're up. I'm 34years old, 6'2", 205 and I'm pretty athletic still. I'm a paramedic training for a police vs fireman/paramedic tournament called "guns & hoses" down here in dallas. My trainers keep gassing me up to turn amateur cruiserweight and possibly go pro (which i have no desire to fight professionally but the competition aspect is intriguing)
      I would like to know if you have any advice on going amateur for real at 34 and whats the *best* fighting combos for a southpaw? (make some southpaw videos bro! we need to know proper plan of attack! i just right hook after opponents left jab, and people think i'm a rockstar, lol)

    • @PrecisionBoxing
      @PrecisionBoxing  10 років тому +5

      The key to everything in your case us desire to fight and the right preparation. I just wrote a whole book on how to prepare for your first fight. 1. Desire to compete 2. 4-5 days a week of training for 9 months. 3. Running on the side. You'll have a very high chance of success. The rest is just details that you'll figure out for yourself based on what works for you.

    For your question at around 8:05 I think guys do that just to get the technique in their head, it's like practicing muay thai kicks on a heavy bag, you gotta go a bit slow because technique is so important. I'm really in no position to be giving you advice but just my input haha. Helpful videos

  • @NinkasiDelight

  • @PrecisionBoxing
    @PrecisionBoxing  12 років тому

    That's a wicked move, I've used something similar a lot and that is to step and fake the jab and then drop down to throw the straight right to the body. The fake is really short, it's almost half of a fake lol, It works particularly well against guys who love to throw the left hook counter. My only suggestion is that when you throw that shot to the body to lower your level so you are harder to hit with any counters. Often counterpunchers throw as soon as you move.

    only if you hyper extend your elbow. As you get experience and skill you'll learn to pull that shot once you've reached 98% extension, I have never had a hyperextended elbow. If anything you usually get that in sparring when you really go for a guy and he slips your shot.

    Dude, you're the man! Awesome as always. I have one request though, could you explain the Active deffence more in detail with some example combinations maybe. I think it is rly important, yet I kind of leave t behind, prob because it reminds me of the time I used to train karate and block all punches...so lame :D Now I tend to move my head all the time and I use way more energy than I should. Tnx

    great video as always bro, its hard breaking those bad habits like moving that hand before you throw a shot giving yourself away. one thing I like to do in Sparring is step in with my foot and fake the jab to the head and throw it down to the body and get out or the other way around. seems to help when fighting really patient counter punchers. whats your opinion on that? any tips? like what to do or not do when doing that or what to watch out for?

  • @PrecisionBoxing
    @PrecisionBoxing  11 років тому

    its best to be conditioned to pack more punches inside a 3 min round. If you are focused on throwing lots of punches then moving around will take away from that a bit, but that's ok. Most amateur boxers will throw between 150-200 punches in a 3 minute round on the bag. To get your punch output up to 300 you really have to work hard, throw high volume combinations and stay very very busy. Get a video of your doing a round on the bag (3 mins), count your punch output and try to increase it.

    its not about small or quick, I dont want anyone's punches to be small or quick. it's about using your body and not your arm to punch, and about being efficient. Just watch De La Hoya drop Mayorga in the first round, those are the kind of punches I'm talking about. No matter how efficiently you train some of your technique will go out the window when you fight. If you train sloppy you will be even worse off when you fight.

  • @taipan185

    Really like your video's and I really appreciate the fact that you explain the why's and why not's. I am 45 and only just started training in the past year, I have gotten to really love every aspect of the sport to the point that I would like to see how far I can take myself. At 45 though its hard to know just how far I can expect to get, I'd like to take a shot at the ringside masters in maybe a year from now as a novice I just don't have any clue how much progress I can make in that time. I know its all about dedication and how much time you put in but can someone become sound in all the important areas such as fundamentals in a 12 month period?

    • @PrecisionBoxing
      @PrecisionBoxing  8 років тому +1
