Excellent review, finally someone who is aware that lenses don't perform at their best "wide open" F8 tends to be my go to aperture dependant on the result i'm looking for. Some really good tips in there as well, you have a new subscriber.
@@FrankDoorhof Hi yes mine arrived today and a quick comparison with a Tamron 28-75 mm f2.8 stopped down there isn't a huge difference that I can see using a Sony a7 iii
Wow, I really loved the way you did this review, giving us some tips and things you like to do gave me a few ideas to work in the future, your samples were also beautiful! I'm definitely suscribing, thanks for sharing this with us!
I had this lens for about 2 weeks, but my copy was unacceptably soft (for me at least) at focal lengths beyond 150mm. Also the zoom mechanism is so tight that it made adjusting focal length quite difficult. Perhaps I had a bad copy, but I returned it very disappointed. I took my Canon sl1 with 55-250 and 24mm pancake lens, plus Sony A7R zeiss 35mm and got great results on my recent visit to Amsterdam (river cruise to Budapest).
Great Review Frank & thanks for the tips. Picking up one of these lens at the Bangkok Photo Expo this week..... & a 28F2 & a 55f1.8. Anything else you think I might need? Cheers Ed
Hi Frank another great video with some helpful tips. Can I ask about your audio equipment the sound is very good with all that wind you Voice is very clear. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Looks great Frank! I have a question, would you advise the Sony a line for use in studio? So for portraits etc ? Or go for an dslr like an Canon 5d mii ?
Was that the Scarlet Sheep at the end of the video? I would love to get this for my a6000, but I would still need to carry around my 12mm Rokinon f/2 for some wide angle shots. And my Sony 50mm f1.8. I can't shoot with only one lens on my crop sensor camera.
Do you feel this lens is still relevant in 2022? I’m turned between this one and the 24-70 GM for my A7C. I already have a 24mm GM, so I need just one more for the “one and done” concept.
@@FrankDoorhof yeah I just really don’t want to buy anymore lens after this purchase, so I’m just trying to get one more that fits the needs for versatility. I don’t know why I kept comparing every zoom lens against the 24-70gm, but everyone keeps bringing me full circle back to it..😫.
Thank you or your quick response. I appreciate it...I’m interesting in birding landscapes ,camels photography... I bought rx10 iv but after one month and while fishing trip some water came to that camera and now doesn’t work ...now I bought this camera a7 so I will buy this lenses... Best Regards
Wow, fantastic video and review. I'm planning to get this lens but I'm not sure which body to get. I have the new A9 on pre-order but I would rather have a future A7S iii or A9S. Problem is I need it by 5/25/2017 for a trip. If I buy an A7S ii I will want to trade it in a few months later for an A7S iii. So I thought just get an A6500, it's inexpensive and could make a good 2nd camera after I get an A7S iii. Don't really like APS-C however. So I'm thinking maybe get an A7R ii. It's a completely different camera, I wouldn't want to trade it when the A7S iii comes out. Maybe that's my best option. The upcoming trip is a storm chase vacation, what do you think of using the A7R ii for this, both video and stills. Btw, I'm not a professional photographer, not even an amateur photographer, I'm just an idiot with a camera but I do like good equipment. Thanks, mk
just got this lens yesterday, can't believe i'm enjoying a variable aperture lens so much! put some sample photo/video in my unboxing video if anyone wanna check out. :)
On APS-c size sensor it would be 36-360mm lens But its also going to be worse on low light (because smaller sensor less light can come in) But for day photography it should do good.
Light should not be any difference. It's a crop not a filter. Light entering is equal. You don't shoot on f2.8 iso 100 1/500 on FF And F4 on a crop. The only thing that changes is the crop and DOF. Not the ammount of light.
+mailperson if You read the page I send you you can see that e mount lenses should work. Also when you google you can see that ;) I don't mind answering questions but do remember I don't work for sony I only use their a7r series and rx100 so best bet is to ask me stuff about those cameras ;)
The Sony 24-240mm isn't a sharp lens. It is actually the softer Sony FE full frame lens for e-mount. Some other Sony FE amount sharpness results with Sony A7R 28-70m f/3.5-5.6 16 P-Mpix 450€ 16-35 f/4 16 P-Mpix 1200€ 24-70 f/4 15 P-Mpix 900€ 24-70 f/2.8 17 P-Mpix 2000€ 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 15 P-Mpix 1000€ 24-240 f/3.5-6.3 9 P-Mpix 900€ 50mm f/1.8 16 P-Mpix 300€ The super zoom lenses are convenient but are inherently soft.
Just got this lens in our shop today. Initially I thought it was going to be priced around £300 but to my horror it scanned it at £759. I been given the task of selling it but I told my manager that its a piece of shit at that price as it won't sell .
@@FrankDoorhof I never said I tested it. In my shop we mainly stock items that easily sell. I will see how long it takes to sell them. I don't need to test it as I sell lots of cameras and lenses all day long and know customer patterns of purchase including Sony customers.
@@FrankDoorhof I never said it's not good. I said it was a piece of shit at£759 or so. For example, We sell canon 70-200 F4 L glass with the red ring For £599. This is the reason most of my Sony customers suffer as they cannot easily find reasonably priced Sony lens.

Audio you have to invest in. It's more important actually than video ;)

Sony 4k handycam

Do E Mount lenses fit the A6000 or do they only take FE lenses?
