I cannot thank you enough. Like other comments here, my natural tension was more correct. In my quest to get better with "better" back tension I began to do it all wrong. Couple this with changing to a new bow and I thought my arrows may not be correct. Now I moved my nock point, put my draw arm more in line, keep line of fire & feel the push/pull, aim, release. I still need work, but on a much better path & hopeful deer season will be productive this year.
I cannot thank you enough for what this video did to improve my form in just one day. In typical archery fashion, as soon as one error is fixed another arises but that is what keeps us coming back I guess. I have been on a warpath watching top barebow and traditional archery shooters commit the "false" clean release where start and end are perfect but middle portion of release where facepainting should happen is absent. I suffered from this and consciously tried to correct it, but it wasn't until I saw this video and changed my perspective of back tension, line of sight, string picture and wrist-hooking, that i truly got it today. Thanks for what you do and how you share it.
Great demonstration of the Line of Fire. It takes me about 20 warm up draws to get a straight line of fire, but after an hour my groupings always start to spread sideways. Now I know why 👍 As I get hotter and loosen up I'm either over drawing on the expansion or rushing and releasing before the line. Deep breath, slow down. It's a wonderful feeling when it just hooks up and as if by magic the arrows all appear in the gold 🤩 Thank you so much 🙏👍
I was squeezing my back like you did. My scores went down so I decided to abandon proper back tension. Now I know I was doing it wrong and doing it nearly right my natural way. I Just need to tweak a couple of things. Thanks!
I'm a hear/do learner and pretty much self-taught thanks to innertube friends like you and a shooting friend here that is a great mentor. I find that if I am working on overcoming a problem I tend to make things worse by working too hard at it, overthinking it. I'm currently working on a collapse thing and I can see what you are saying about exaggerating the back tension to avoid/create plucking. Thanks!
Hi, Greg. I really like how open minded you are about archery. Your videos about shot cycle were some of the firsts I watched when started shooting a bow, and since than, you've achieved a huge improvement! Well done!
last week when training i filmed myself and noticed i had a pluck and was collapsing, come to think of it i probably had the wrong back tension just like you said. this video has come just at the perfect time for me. it is really nice and clear and i will try this all out the next time on the range! will probably put that little exercise in my warm up routine as well, just to remind me(and my body) how it should feel and how it should not lol THANK YOU BIG TIME!
Technically, plucking does not affect the accuracy as the time for the arrow to clear the bow is very very very short. Your hand barely moves between release and arrow clearing the bow. Plucking is an indicator that there are non-linear forces applied to the string before release that affect how the string and arrow behave during release. If you get the alignment correct, there are no non-linear forces in play, the trajectory of the string, arrow and hand will be linear after release. I am guilty of this as well. I have to put a lot of mental effort to not exhibit plucking ...
@@goe54 plucking is the RESULT of incorrect alignment .... Greg even demonstrated that in his video .... with correct alignment, there's no way you will ever pluck ...
@@lubossoltes321 Thanks for the replay. I agree that incorrect alignment generates pluck, but I do not agree that the incorrect alignment is the only pluck generating factor. Not in my experience.
Al Henderson the legendary Olympic coach had an even easier and simple way for his students to apply back tension without thinking about it ….Your drawing elbow comes straight back and tries to hit an imaginary person directly behind you !!! It will automatically set the proper back tension for your draw and your alignment will be consistently good!! Ive seen this work for hundreds of archers over the years who fretted about their back tension and tried the faulty shoulder blade method !!! Also many confuse plucking with torquing the string because the results are similar !! If you cant your bow lets say at the 1 o’clock position your draw hand must be at the same angle to the bow and string throughout the shot and finish .. Check out videos of all the top Trad archers and you will see this is true….it’s the only way the bowstring will be drawn straight back and released torque free……
Hi Greg, I'm following you from France. Your videos help me a lot. I would like to know if you know this DVD and if so, what you think: Core Archery Back Tension Defined DVD by Larry Wise
Sorry for the delay, been working on my own archery event, lots of planning and work. I know of Larry wise, but not the DVD, i will have to check it out. Thanks for the lead.
Hey Yeah, been awhile, Bout time You make a few New Posts for Us Too?? Haha, I'm amazed anyone has time to produce these Excellent Videos, I am lucky to get enough spare time just to watch them.
Does this also translate to overdraw? I find that if I anchor anywhere behind the corner of my mouth I tend to show signs of plucking. Otherwise I get a flawless release and good grouping.
It can, it all depends on how you get to your anchor. I have a 30", which many call an overdraw, but if I use my back properly, I have no problem. I guess it is a catch 22 type of thing
I really appreciate your candor. Great subject.
Great video! I've always struggled with plucking and back tension even when I think I'm doing everything right. This explains a lot.

I am a much better archer because of your videos. Thank you for sharing the knowledge.

Thank you Greg! Your videos have taught me so much about traditional archery!

That's brilliant Greg, that's the exact issue I've been having too. Thanks!
Looks like an angular draw.
Excellent video ,thanks .
A great explanation, thank you:)
Great video sir helped me out a lot
Thanks greg for the info, now i get it whats make me plucking......
That wrist kink is going to help me heaps with my line of sight straight drawning arrow roll off self going to practice today.
Very good info.
And the light bulb flickers to life....Thank you!
Thank you 👍

Great explanation! I thought they meant the same thing and gave up the practice.

I legit thought you made a goose target and put it in the lake behind you in the beginning hahaha

Well.... Bye!
Great video!
You can edit the title BTW.
Awesome
@2:04 that was unfair. I have not been producing videos promulgating your skills. Which are far superior to mine.

Thanks for the video
I do that every time I release away from my face. Know that feeling all too well.
I'm a visual learner too
Noone ever explaines it like that. Ever.
Thank you, ok back to the range LOL
Me encantaría que tradujeras al castellano!!🙂
