Great footage, thanks for sharing. The Bennett's had a Shadow mkIII turbo car that was a BEAST. I still vividly remember that thing at RA in 1999-ish, wish I could see some in car from that one too.
What a brilliant racetrack. I used to love watching Indycars there in the 90s and early 2000s on TV (in Australia) in the days of Fittipaldi, Tracy, Unser, Andretti et al. Shadow is rapid!
Hey, Steve - really a shame with your fires last year, hope all is well. Anyway, Road America is my "home" track, and without being cheesy, (ha ha), your correct, what a track! "National Park of Speed" some call it. Elevation changes, long stretches through the woods, lots of places to pass, I could go on and on about the killer fun atmosphere, camping at the track or nearby. Lotta beer, friendly Midwestern folk. Put it on your bucket list, if you got the dough. I know - I sound like I'm from the chamber of commerce. All apologies, mate!
@@carlsaganlives5112 Hi mate, yeah the bushfires were really bad especially as the country had been in bad drought for about five years too, but the fires in the US weren't too good either. I'd love to come to Road America, I haven't been to Wisconsin or enough of the Mid-West. I had two 30-day trips to the US in '92 and '99, what I called 'blowfly' holidays, a day here, two days there etc. Not the most efficient way to see a country but a good way to get a feel for the place. Visited LA, San Fransisco, Charlotte (1992 Coca Cola 600), New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Memphis, Nashville, NYC, Denver, Las Vegas (hated it except for the neon), Death Valley, Yosemite, Miami, Arizona, Dallas/Fort Worth to name a few. Really want to do a big road trip one day after the virus and Trump are gone ;) Stay safe and press on!
I've been to a ton of IMSA races at beautiful Road America, and it never gets old seeing the prototypes eat up slower classes. Best series in the world today. Hope to see some action soon, how 'bout it?
were their ever any big blocks in closed top configuration? Not necessarily in CanAm. I seem to remember a Courage at Le Mans in the 80's or early 90's that they said was but not sure. I was still in HS at the time.
Saw them at Mid-Ohio. Ickx and Oliver in Shadows, Donahue in the Penske-Sunoco 917-30, Andretti in a Ferrari 512... you could distinguish them by just the sound, The Porsche whooshed, the Ferrari ripped, and the Shadows thundered, (more than even the McClarens).... the Shadow won that day, btw...
Awesome!! Jim, i meet you at VIR..a while ago. You are a nice person and thank you! Is this the same Chassis you ran a last week? I am also glad you are ok!!
Dexter D this particular video is Kirk Bennett doing an outstanding job driving the DN4. I had a chance to drive the championship winning DN4 last week (July 2020) in Elkhart Lake. That is another video. Great cars prepared by the fantastic team of RM Motorsports. JP
Pause it at :08 and really look at it. If the dictionary had pictures to go with the words and you looked up 'Bad Ass'.....................that right there is what you would see.
Downshift, down shift, across the track, late apex, ease on the throttle to load the tires, get it straight, punch the gas...hoooooooly shiiiiiitttt!!!! Nothing like 800 ft lbs of torque in a 1600 lb car.
Nothing like the sound of a big block Chevrolet. The torque out of the corners is amazing.
One of our most favorite cars of all time. Thanks for the ride!
Beautiful gear changes - both up and down. Very nice to hear proper coordination!
The only car left to lap is himself. Great videos!
I really miss beautiful race cars. That beast pulls like a train off the corners.
UOP Shadow, one of the if not the most beautiful race cars of all time.
The wail of that big block Chevy is unforgettable
Gawdammm that thing runs good! Smooth driving, Kirt!
I remember these cars fired in anger at the Glen--the most exciting racing in history. Great to see one at speed from the cockpit.

They say you can only feel the acceleration of a race car from the inside. I could SEE it when he stepped on it. Damn that's got power.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing. Nice driving!
Always nice to be the fastest thing on the track.
I've been to a ton of IMSA races at beautiful Road America, and it never gets old seeing the prototypes eat up slower classes. Best series in the world today. Hope to see some action soon, how 'bout it?
I'm hearing about 180mph there!! Awesum!!!
The DN-4 has some real grunt.

Just a nice easy Sunday drive, why were ALL those other cars going so slow?
I think it might be just practice, plus some of those cars are in different classes, warming up, etc.
Where is the next place we go see these on track?

nice drive, but there are a lot of 10ths left on the table here... non?
Where is this beautiful Shadow now? Who is the lucky owner? :-D
Incredible.
Brutal! That laugh at the end, he was probably thinking of the new Ford GT. A bit of a girly car compared to this beast.

I bought an AFX shadow when they came out.

It looks fast sitting still.... amazing cars and Kirt is an amazing driver
I did. You're right. Really sharp, focused shot, too.
Wonderful beast. Squirt from corner to corner in 2 gears! Not even close stretching it’s legs...
Is this the car Jim Pace wrecked? Sad, his loss. Another good man I've never met. Mr Bennett was for certain haulin'ass around this track!!
EXCELLENT!!
Hearing that BBC gulping air at an alarming rate is nothing short of automotive aural sex!
ahh that sound is music!!
Smooooth!
I need a cigarette ............
Great view of the mirror.
Awesome!
Omly a true lunatic would want to really stretch that car's legs out....holy shit
Tires must have been really cold. Braking before pit exit into turn one
Downshift, down shift, across the track, late apex, ease on the throttle to load the tires, get it straight, punch the gas...hoooooooly shiiiiiitttt!!!! Nothing like 800 ft lbs of torque in a 1600 lb car.
The way it jumps out of corners...
Fine shift work....
Can am cars were the best racing cars ever.
Sweet
WOW.
an afternoon with the girls
Looks like you are scared of it, breaking mile away from corners
probably has terrible brakes.. it is 50 odd years old
Bad camara position, right behind the mirror!
Yeah way cool..just not to successful in there day....too bad Mclaren is tough follow!
