- The last song Darby Crash ever wrote, sung by his best friend and bandmate Pat Smear. Originally released on "Pat Ruthensmear - Ruthensmear" album, SST Records, 1987.
My life would be complete if the Foo Fighters did this live with Pat singing

i hate that so few people realize that the foo's are literally playing with a legend in their band.
pat doesn't get the credit he deserves for being such a pioneer in the scene
Darrien Day It blows as well, cos to me it looks like all Pat's doing is standing there on stage with them. He's definitely not as involved as he used to be.
ben palmer i agree. whenever i watch foo footage from the early years, pat was always up there dressed fly as hell but more importantly handling those high harmonies like a boss. even though i have no problem with taylor doing them these days, it would be cool to see pat do at least some on the older songs like he used to. but i guess some pat is better than no pat at all, eh
Darrien Day True, Pat is awesome. But not even that, I'm not sure how much he even plays with the Foo's any more. Shiftlett's doing all the leads (And I mean ALL the leads, I don't think I've ever seen Pat get a solo) and obviously Dave's got all the power-chordy parts sorted, so what Part has Pat got left to play?
ben palmer agreed. since pat rejoined the band during the "Echos, Silence.." days, i been paying attention to what exactly he's handling on stage. and as we've all pretty much agreed on, it's pretty much just doubling of power chords. he even doesn't play anything on some parts of some songs. that always breaks my heart when the camera is on him during those idle moments.
but yea, overall i'm still glad he's up there even though he's terribly underused. but hey it's not my band so i'll just keep my mouth closed on the matter haha

his solo album...was on sst. the same label as black flag, minutemen, husker du, etc. nobody bought it. its not like germs ended....pat stopped making music. he stopped making music and started making money by joining nirvana

Pat Smear was also that cool dude that joined Nirvana and most have totally rocked as Dave took him to the Foo Fighters. and then you hear stuff like this. Pat is a rock god in his total own right! Rock on Pat!!
You can bet it was Cobain's idea. They were close, Pat was the last person he called pat wasn't home and lost another friend.
I met the "fake Germs" while they toured to fund the movie. My band opened and hardly anyone was there--the Violent Femmes (who showed up at the end) were playing a free show that night.
Pat and Lorna invited us to drink their beers with them and were the nicest 'big band'. Pat was into my sg and were totally humble and friendly. Lorna, too. Bowles.. kinda goofy

Agreed. Played with the fake Shane Germs and they invited us backstage and shared their beer with us. Pat and Lorna were totally nice people...Bowles also, but a bit flakey. Shane who?? Weird night. The Violent Femmes were playing in town and were sitting at the bar unnoticed watching the spectacle

Darby Crash was such a fantastic and under appreciated songwriter and lyricist. It absolutely blows my mind that he was just twenty-two when he left this world, practically a kid. Given what we know of his home life, the fella never stood a chance. Lord have mercy on his troubled soul.
Added note: This song is incredible and Pat sings it beautifully. He really should have sang all the songs on that little tour they did with Shane West. Strangely, he sounds a lot like what Darby probably would have sounded like had he lived and evolved musically.

as far as my recollection goes, the band that played this song most frequently was 'Celebrity Skin' which featured Don Bolles of the Germs and briefly included Pat as well. I used to have a cassette demo of their version from about 1986. a great Glam Rock song.

Have you heard the Vagina Dentata version? It's one of the best punk songs I've ever heard [It's got Pat on guitar and Darby's gf Michelle Gerber-Bell on vocals, and she can scream sing like no-one can!]

Frontman Video I’m glad that someone set that straight for me. I always thought it was one of their best originals (right up there with Infidel Zombie). The melody and chords are so tight they rip your face off. I had no idea it was a Germs song. I’m gonna have to give them a whole new re-listen.

I like this version about the same as The Dickies cover of it. Neither's better than the other, it all depends on the mood you're in. There's a heavier version for when you're feeling like it (Pat Smear version), and then you have a version for when everything is bubblegum sunshine happiness, or whatever (Dickies version).
I've always wondered why that after Kurt passed away that Pat didn't step up to the mic and sang Nirvana's songs in his own style. It would never "NOT" be an Nirvana record since Pat was a member before In Utero was released.
I truly think the record would be one that would sell more copies of it than other bands that are popular.
Im thinking of starting a " @Change.org " petition and get as many signatures as I can to bring a dream of mine and surly millions and millions of others to give Dave and Pat the confidence they may have needed to move forward with the project.
Pat before Nirvana (imfao) deserved more recognition for his work and how he shaped the genre we've grown to love.

Yeah it is. I have the vinyl, but I lack the means to rip it. Never seen a rip of it anywhere, just found this one on a blog comparing all the different versions. If I can find it again I will post the link in the details. might try asking that guy to rip it, though I think I did and he never replied.

I think we old school punks sometimes have a difficult time with some of the "new punk"...the cheese can be hard to swallow. I try to be forgiving due to the fact that the younger gen isn't at the same place we were, it is a different time with a diff aesthetic. Having said that, forgetting The Circle Jerks is probably my biggest criticism. I mean if were talking about really original Punk bands that are still around today, how can you not fucking have them right there at the top of the list?

I think he wrote it before then, but Darby Crash band didn't play any new songs as far as I know. I believe he wrote it after the (GI) stuff, but they never got a chance to record it.
