We did a webisode on a 997 911 just like this! Things like suspension, clutch, 911r stripes all filmed in a helpful DIY format - ua-cam.com/video/UpupGWviCSc/v-deo.html
Nice video. I bought the ECS spacers (8mm / 15mm) based on a previous video you made. I also paid $250 but the techs at Titan Motorsports gave props to the quality of the product. I love watching your videos and will be doing more of the mods (gundo hack, Billy Boat) very soon. I also plan to redo my brakes later this year and will keep your video to reference. Keep up the good work!
+David Crawford thanks David! Keep me posted. Next major maintenance item for me will be the rear brakes. 67k miles and the original rear rotors are surprisingly in good shape. Fronts we replaced at 63k. I should have done a video on that.
+John Enriquez I wouldn't go any bigger than 15mm. It puts more stress on the wheel bearings, but not significantly. Many owners run hubcentric wheel spacers with extend wheel bolts without any issues.
Hello, what is the exact color of the lamin-x you have installed on your Porsche headlights? Tint or gunsmoke per lamin-x website? They look very cool on yours and I want the same on mine. Thank you for your great and informative videos.
Great vid. Concise and pithy. Ever thought about upgrading the rear lights with LEDs? or does the 2010 come with it? I have a 2006 997 and am planning to try the rear lights mod.
nice mods! a couple questions. Looks like we may have the same model. I have a 2009 Black 997.2 Carrera S w sports package (same style wheels as yours too). Regarding Spacers - My wheels are 19" and tires are 235 front and 295 rear. I'm considering spacers and see you went ECS 8mm front and 10mm rear. I was thinking of going with OEM 7mm front and 15mm rear which seems to be the consensus on forums. Although i've heard the 7mm upfront could use a little extra, but adding more comes with issues. Curious how this route w ECS and width worked better for you? and did you run into any issues? Also, looking at different short shifters. Still happy with the OEM short shifter? I was looking at different wheels options, but like what you did with the machined lip for separation & contrast. As far as my mods, I just installed the sharkwerks bypass and installing PSE next week--starting to go down the rabbit hole! but oh so fun. So saving a little $$ going with a powder coat may be the answer. Thanks! Robert
Wheel spacers are very tricky. It depends on your wheel setup plus ALIGNMENT!! You'll have to measure where you want to bring your wheels out to. I had 15mm spacers in the rear which looked good. Then I got an alignment and it pushed the wheels out too much. Oem short shift still feels good. There a numeric shifter which is even better. The oem Short shifter has minor side to side play.
How did you paint your exhaust tips? Did you remove the tips? If so how did you remove them? My tips are painted but have corroded so need a way of making them look new for a minute 🙂
Great mods and I enjoy your vids. Exhaust sounds just about perfect. Would love to know which shop did your gundo hack, if you don't mind sharing. Drive out to Brentwood is on the far side.
+Lipper thanks! check out Muffler Express in Redwood City. I just dropped off the mufflers and showed them a picture. I paid $150 to have to work done in a couple hours. They would normally charge around $100 for the work. Very simple stuff. Go with a 2 inch pipe. It's not very loud which is why I added the center muffler bypass.
Very tasteful and well thought out mods. $250 seems steep for wheel spacers but maybe it's not. On the other hand $430 for an OEM Porsche short shift kit seems reasonable. Pardon me while I go check out Michael Bath's Fister. I forgot he got back from London.
+K1dPhresh1 the wheel spacers come with a new set of wheel bolts, which separately can run $80. It's also important to spend a little more on hubcentric spacers. I need to check out his fister too
I guess he just got it installed yesterday. No video up yet. +1 on hubcentric. Those are worth the extra cost. I was thinking just standard "round piece of metal" spacers. Not knocking by any means, just taken aback by the price. Didn't think hubcentric though. I think sometimes I comment and don't read what I'm saying and it comes off kinda like a prick. Billyboat Bypass is also a nice mod, especially for the price.
Is the center muffler bypass Billy Boat or Fabspeed...? The link you included in the description is for Fabspeed but in the video you talk about Billy Boat and quote $420. I found the Fabspeed bypass on Amazon for $1000+. I'm really interested in $420 mod, not so much this $1000+ mod... love the vids by the way. Keep it up.
+John Cumming hi John. It is a Billy Boat, however, it isn't available on Amazon, so I linked to the Fabspeed one. If money weren't an option, I'd get that one because of the exotic sound it produces. Check on Google for the Billy Boat. You can find it brand new for $580 or so shipped. Check on UA-cam for a Fabspeed clip.
Never heard of that, but it sounds like a good idea. I used a measuring tape to get an idea. Keep in mind though that your alignment and ride height will affect what size you go with, so get that figured out first.
+Rahman Z nope, but if your gear box has issues, the short shifter won't make them any better. My car has issues sometimes going into second when the drivetrain is cold.
Abso(freaking)lutley!!!I I use it as a daily drive. I use it to drop off/pick up the kids from school (they love it when the convertible top is down). I use it for work. I live in OC and drive to San Diego 3 days/week. Driving by the pacific coast is the best feeling especially with the top down!!!
Each to their own is the best I can say for you. I don’t like any of the mods except the machined wheel rims but then why wouldn’t you just throw on some deep dish split rims. I have 19” chrome dishes with gunmetal faces.
I really want to turbo my Cayman GTS. But sounds like such a stupid idea considering I'll lose my warranty as the car is brand new with only 3 thousand miles. I just find it slow :( and want more torque.
+ZDY if you want more low end power, than look into a supercharger. But I agree with your assessment. Don't do that to the Cayman. You'll also kill the resale value. If torque is what you're after, I'd look into trading your car in for a 911 Turbo.
ZDY Cayman GTS too slow? Are you talking around the track, straight line or just acceleration? I am saying cause that car isn't made for the fast acceleration straight line runs. Its more a handling car. I would agree with last comment .... you just got the wrong car for your specific enthusiam. 911 turbo or a Vet is what you need. DON'T screw that car up with a turbo!
What do you mean by base mods? There are options I regret not having such as the full leather package, adaptive sport seats, and sport exhaust. Those are really the main ones. I think those 3 options would make the car feel more special and bring the driving experience up a notch. But, I love my car. I am thinking of adding adaptive sport seats in the future. I'd love to pick up a set and paint the hard backs to match the car.
Wow, they're getting hard to find in the U.S. Here's one from Hong Kong, but free shipping to the U.S. Looks identical to mine. www.ebay.com/itm/Black-911-Rear-Deck-Lid-Boot-Emblem-Badge-for-Porsche-911-Carrera-993-996-997-/172582486935?hash=item282eb7c397:g:7pMAAOSwSlBYy6Qn&vxp=mtr
I bought a black "Carrera" and "S" badge from suncoastparts. com for my artic silver 997.1S. But once I took off the original badge I just decided to leave it blank. It's a good look IMO
I took it to some random muffler shop in Northern California. Just showed them a picture of what I wanted, gave them the mufflers, and they took care of it.
i've had it leave a residue which had bad reactions to adhesive removers which ended up nearly ruining a set of headlights. not sure how long the previous owner had this garbage on in my case, but i would never use it; hopefully not the same result for you down the road.

Very tastefully done my friend. Currently saving for my first 911!
Your car looks great!
+Michael Bath thank you Michael. So does yours! I saw you're installing a fister. Should sound nice!
Car Fanatic Fister was fitted during the week. First long drive with it today. Car sounds so much better!
Great ! I love how you've treated the car with taste, all the mods are on spot. Great video!
Thanks. I appreciate that!
Great video and very tasteful mods!
The headlights look more like 991's than 997's. Have you done any mods on them besides the Lamin films?
Nope. Just the tint film. Appreciate the compliment and thanks for watching!
The spacers are soooo key. Can't believe more people don't do this. Does it improve handling too?
I recommend 15mm spacers all-around!
Just got my 911 today, a 911 Carrera 2. I am wanting to do intake, throttle body, header, exhaust and CPU tune.
thanks for the vids man, dreaming porsche
I was thinking of wheel spacers but was also concerned with safety issues on metal stress at high speeds.
+John Enriquez I wouldn't go any bigger than 15mm. It puts more stress on the wheel bearings, but not significantly. Many owners run hubcentric wheel spacers with extend wheel bolts without any issues.

It's the "tint" version which you can find here amzn.to/2pAbco5

hows the dsc module?

Looks good! I've been thinking of the short shift kit from the Cayman GT4, but haven't bit the bullet yet.
Sounds like a great mod. Though I have to say, the 991 shifter feels much better than the stock 997 shifter.
P.S. Sorry for not following up on the collab email thread. I've been pretty tied up these last couple of months.
How did you paint your exhaust tips? Did you remove the tips? If so how did you remove them? My tips are painted but have corroded so need a way of making them look new for a minute 🙂

All great choices, great mods
Absolutely beautiful car!
Thank you!
Gorgeous Porsche!!!

Great vid!!! 911 sounds great
Nice whip!
Great looking car.
thank you!
Beautiful car and nice video
Your car looks great. I want a 911 and do exactly what you did.
Nice work. Did you consider the ECS Tuning spacer fitment kit to determine spacer size?
Never heard of that, but it sounds like a good idea. I used a measuring tape to get an idea. Keep in mind though that your alignment and ride height will affect what size you go with, so get that figured out first.
Thanks for the videos Dennis. When you put the lamin-x on the DRLs did you remove the bumper?
Hi Sylvester. I did not remove the DRLs. You can apply them directly fortunately. Thanks for watching and hope you're subscribed to the channel!
Do you have issues with the short shifter kit when starting cold? how has it been so far?
ps. Bay area 997 represent :)
+Rahman Z nope, but if your gear box has issues, the short shifter won't make them any better. My car has issues sometimes going into second when the drivetrain is cold.
Nice mods!
Looks great...I have been thinking about 997 for DD commute. would you suggest?
Abso(freaking)lutley!!!I I use it as a daily drive. I use it to drop off/pick up the kids from school (they love it when the convertible top is down). I use it for work. I live in OC and drive to San Diego 3 days/week. Driving by the pacific coast is the best feeling especially with the top down!!!
It’s been 2+ years since this video, not sure how much longer since the exhaust tips were painted. How have they held up over time?
It held up okay but some paint on the hot part of the tips came off. Likely because of bad prep. So, I had them ceramic coated instead.
good vid bro... she's a beauty.
Thank you! Would love to see a pic of yours.
That sounds awesome
Rear end needs some work .
I just got one myself, most of the outsides been done. Any interior mods that you can recommend?
Nice. Keep her!!
For sure. :)
Each to their own is the best I can say for you. I don’t like any of the mods except the machined wheel rims but then why wouldn’t you just throw on some deep dish split rims. I have 19” chrome dishes with gunmetal faces.
I'm going for a subtle OEM look. I'm not a fan of deep dish wheels. I think chrome has no business on a Porsche but that's my opinion.
Did you notice a change in handling after installing the wheel spacers?
+heikki722 I did not do a proper before and after comparison, so I cannot say.
I really want to turbo my Cayman GTS. But sounds like such a stupid idea considering I'll lose my warranty as the car is brand new with only 3 thousand miles. I just find it slow :( and want more torque.

Were there any base mods on the 997 you regret not having?
What do you mean by base mods? There are options I regret not having such as the full leather package, adaptive sport seats, and sport exhaust. Those are really the main ones. I think those 3 options would make the car feel more special and bring the driving experience up a notch. But, I love my car. I am thinking of adding adaptive sport seats in the future. Cold Air Intake ?
Very tasteful
This cars $120,000 in Australia , new one $250,000

You should tint your tail lights and windows
+Diego Says bleh windows are tinted now. I'm not a fan on tinted tail lights though. Thanks for watching.
Which muffler shop done Gundo hack job?
I took it to some random muffler shop in Northern California. Just showed them a picture of what I wanted, gave them the mufflers, and they took care of it.
@@CarFanatic Did you go with a 2" cross pipe?
What colour would you call this car?
Thanks.
Meteor gray metallic!
I just bought a 2007 911 CARERRA S cabrio!! It only has 12k miles on it🤨🤨🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼👌👌🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽
Awesome! Congrats and check out www.ecarguides.com for diy tutorials!
What shop did you use for the wheels?
A place called wheel techniques in Santa Clara. They did an okay job. Not the best place.
cool, thanks for sharing!
do you want to sell any of the exhaust?
+Thomas Kiefer unfortunately not. I love my exhaust
good luck taking that shit lamin-x...hopefully it doesn't ruin the headlights.
+Roman _ I've removed a set before. No issues. What have you seen?
i've had it leave a residue which had bad reactions to adhesive removers which ended up nearly ruining a set of headlights. not sure how long the previous owner had this garbage on in my case, but i would never use it; hopefully not the same result for you down the road.
Do u have an Instagram?
you are not lowered at all?
+noahsb9 nope. Sport Suspension option which is 10mm lower than standard PASM.
4000 subs $4000
Gosh, that means I'll have to spend another $96k to get to 100k subs! Time to turn my 997 into a 991 GT3 RS.
Car Fanatic clever
Actually spend $3,598 for mods
