My tips.... with the suggested music (thanks!), Google the lyrics for your fave songs, then Google translate them to English, and save both versions. Or, you can open two windows for both version (Spanish and native language), resize them so they are side by side, then screenshot both translations for later reference. When you listen to them after, you will repeatedly get exposed to words you've learned, which will also help you memorize the songs and be able to sing along with them yourself (another way to get used to saying words in Spanish authentically). You can also watch videos of the songs Luçia suggested on UA-cam and look for ones with the lyrics (lyric videos) to find translations, some popular songs will translate to English. For films and shows on Netflix, you can actually pause the shows and switch the language for subtitles back and forth and Netflix will change the subtitles so you can see the sentence in your native language and Spanish while paused. I also usually make the audio English and make the subtitles Spanish as Spanish speakers tend to talk so fast it's hard to tell what's being said but you can always watch shows twice or go back and listen to both versions every couple of minutes (though that can get tedious). If you like a challenge, listen in Spanish while also having the subtitles in Spanish so you can see the way words are spoken and what they are clearly. Netflix also let's you choose Spain or Latin America Spanish, which is great, I only watch shows from Spain or chose subtitles that are Spain Spanish (for American shows).

Thank you for putting together this very informative and helpful video. I have been trying to learn Spanish for quite some time for several reasons, one, because it's interesting to learn something new, and two, because I need to better communicate with co workers at the distribution center where I work. I tried Babbel, but it went from super easy to extremely difficult very quickly. Like many others, i became frustrated and gave up.Your energetic videos are easy to follow, without getting the overwhelming feeling that learning the language is too difficult. I'm going to give your videos a try...thanks again.

I understand the Spanish in Spain is different from the Spanish in Mexico. I’ve been learning the Spanish of Mexico so are this tips for where to study the language not recommended?

I am learning the same as you, concentrating on Mexican Spanish. But I've been told by several that, though there are differences, as entry level learners we won't encounter too many differences between the two at this point. There will be some noun differences... pluma (in Mexico) vs bolígrafo (in Spain) for pen... not unlike Americans saying elevator and Brits calling it a lift. Idioms are going to be different (which I'm not even remotely ready to learn regional idioms and slang) as well as some differences in pronunciation... Mexican Spanish "S's" sound like English whereas Spain pronounces them with a "th" sound (listen to Lucía's... I think it's adorable sounding even though I pronounce them as they would in Mexico). Americans and Brits understand each other though our accents are different. Mexicans and Spanish are the same (I was in NYC recently and heard a Spanish couple speaking to a Mexican couple). Though I'm concentrating on Mexican Spanish, I'll be visiting Spain next year... when I ask "dónde está el baño" in my American/poorly executed Mexican accent, I'm sure they will know what I'm asking :)
One of the things I do is watch Telemundo Deportes for American football games in Mexican Spanish, but I enjoy Lucía's videos (as well as other's content from Spain). She is Spanish but, as an entry level learner, I get just as much out of her lessons as I do from someone's videos from Mexico as well as my iTalki teacher, who is in Mexico.
