I can't believe this was released 17-18 years ago. It was one of the first free roam racing games. I had bought it during release date. Looking at it now it aged really bad lol

For a very early ps2 (relased October 2000 if I'm correct) game it plays as it should. A fun arcade racing game with free roam and a minimalist story mode. Ahh the good old days of pre 911 before US society became so paranoid. I was only 6 years old when I played this the nostalgia hits really hard. I had this game 6 years ago but unfortunately it got stolen along with my ps2 and games when i accidentally left my book back in my mom's truck after coming back from a cousins house.

Just turned 26... Fuck I'm starting to feel the whole "getting old" shit. My little nephew watched some of this and said it looked stupid. Little does he know this game is actually super fun, probably more fun than most modern racing games.
Fun fact: the game uses modified Angel's Midtown Madness 2 engine. Hence one of popular mods for Midtown Madness 2, is New York from MCSR.

Cheers for sharing this. And this looks SO damn cheesy compared with MC2 and MC3 DUB Edition, but it's also cool AF because it shows a wonderful progression. How much better MC2 and 3 are. Rockstar did a wonderful job with these games aye. Can't wait to see if they make a new one, especially if it's a lot like the second or third game with its gloomy, darker and more intense feel 😊

So I got this for Christmas of 2001 with my brand new PS2. All I would do is drive around in the cab in NYC. It was a few years later until I discovered you could drive in London. But man it was fun. I got Midnight Club and a game called Theme Park Rollercoaster made by EA and it was wonderful. A great time to be alive. I’d take a kick in the nuts to go back.

I didn't really understood the term "midnight club" as a kid and was mad, why there was no "day" option in the free roam instead of "night", "dusk" and "dawn" :D
It is very difficult to drive a car with an arrow pointing the way, the car crashes, the race is lost. This is a major drawback of this game

Still break out my ps3 at times to play this and other classics I downloaded. Good old days

Some gamestops still carry PS2 games, but your better off just checking out eBay.
