I am a big Alfa Romeo fan and I would choose an Giulia over any BMW 3/5 series or Audi A4/A5.
Very good review as usual. Not many people are capable to deep dive on real mechanical values. It is a choice between appearance and substance.
"Fantastic review, Thomas - thank you for your insights! While it's true that this car may have a few downsides like a slightly slower infotainment system compared to its rivals, a lower resolution back camera, and the absence of some advanced cameras or launch control, I firmly believe that the folks in Milano have truly captured the essence of Alfa Romeo. These perceived drawbacks have been masterfully harnessed to push the boundaries to their limits. This is precisely why this car, as the ultimate sporty sedan, stands unrivaled and supreme within its class. Speaking from my own experience, I recently purchased a brand new Stelvio (although I wouldn't consider myself an Alfista) after thoroughly testing all the primary and even pricier contenders. The unique connection between the driver and the machine, the unparalleled sensation - these qualities are simply absent in any of the alternatives. It's a realization that can only truly be grasped when you take an Alfa out on a twisty track, and afterward, put its rivals to the test. An amazing car, no doubt. I think i would prefer it to the german competition, assuming i had the money to get one. While the Germans have more sophisticated and luxurious cars, with better infotainment systems and other features, people who buy this kind of car are definitely looking for excitement so i think the Quadrifoglio is the most enjoyable of the bunch to drive. Stellar review as always, Thomas!
Really enjoyed this review. I’ve owned a (slightly tuned) 2020 Giulia Q4 ti sport for nearly a year, and still find any excuse to extend a drive and find some twisties. It’s a blast. Having come from manual cars, I find driving exclusively in manual mode a pretty fun compromise for a driving enthusiast. Gears are quite close together meaning you get to play with the joyous oversized paddles constantly and feel that little ‘nudge’ in dynamic mode on each shift :) It’s fair criticism around the infotainment and reversing camera, although I’d choose a small integrated display over a ‘tablet-stuck-on-dashboard’ approach any day. One overlooked design touch is the phone holder. It’s designed so (for CarPlay) you run your usb cable through the Center armrest and into the vertical exposed slot there. It’s then neatly tucked away but east to access and plug in. And if you don’t use CarPlay it’ll also charge there wirelessly. So much neater than many approaches where you squeeze your phone in to an armrest, or see cables.
I bought a Giulia QV last year and i am loving it, just turn off the screen haha also once you learn how to handle the car, Race Mode is totally manageable and a lot of fun! Of course always be careful, because as said in this video, it does come sideways haha
I disagree. I’ve had this car for five years. The stereo is garbage. I’m going to be spending a few thousand dollars to remedy which should have been done in the first place. Especially for the price
@@2steaksandwiches665 This is a machine absolutely designed to enjoy driving and the only sound needed to listen is the impressive melody that comes from its V6 engine. If You really had this car and the quality of the sound system was a problem, you have no idea about sports cars. I recommend you switching to washing machines on wheels.
@@josefedericopresno6668 that is a cop out for poor planning on the part of Alfa. Total excuses and rationalization. They might as well leave a hole in the dash. Alfa does a lot of stupid things. This is one of them. Especially for $80k. There are better sounding cars than this that have better stereos. They should also leave all sound deadening off and have the thinnest glass possible. How about a hole in the firewall so I can hear the engine? Maybe have the exhaust curve around and empty in the passenger compartment? Yes I have this car. NOBODY on the forums praises this stereo. It’s off the shelf Chrysler crap. This is a premium car. It isn’t a Caterham
After what BMW has done with the latest M3 and M4 models, the Alfa wins in the looks department by default. In other areas, the Alfa seems to measure up quite well.
Great review! Very detailed and correct in a typical German way, but you also talk about the emotions and feelings of the car, which is just as important. I'm seriously considering this Alfa Romeo as my next car.
The 180 or higher bhp versions already are a dream. A dream people who have driven only the German Holy Three will be left without even imagining. Also, this is the most rare car that will enable you to enjoy driving still more if equipped with an auto gearbox. Because its is no gearbox like other gearboxes...
I didnt say the car sucks, the infotainment system sucks. Fair to say that. Doesnt take away anything from driving. Fans of this vehicle seem to be very sensitive when criticizing something thats not right with this vehicle. Every vehicle has some flaws. Calling it "moronic" is something that doesnt fit the comments section.
@autogefuehl Fair play, you are doing a great job with your review. I'm going to retract my comment. I'm driving 2019 Giulia QV with an original, non touch infotainment system, and I find it great it does everything I need. People are hung up on the screens in Alfas, and it is annoying. It's a car, not a computer. When it becomes all about the screens, it will be the end of motoring. Thank you for your brilliant content.
Cheers! Ya i m also driving a pre-facelift car without touch and happy with that, i aint no fan of touchscreens. But if u offer one, you should make it work that was the only thing. I usually try not to use touch stuff in a car
The car (and the Stelvio) is so underrated. I hope Alfa brings the analog controls, design and animal-free leather into the EV age. Just add an electric drive train: I'm in love with the Gulia, but the roads here really scream for the Stelvio. I should probably secure one of the two before production ends. I have unfortunately already missed the white-green stitching. BTW which red is that?
Had an original car, and a 2020 facelift, so it feels like I should get the final version! Unfortunately discounts in the UK just aren't around any more.
I agree that the rear view camera image quality is not the best, but that's because an analog camera is used to minimise latency. It's supposed to show you obstacles as fast as possible, so you can use it as a real "mirror" and not a delayed stream. A real test would be driving the car in reverse in a poorly lit street, where your rear view mirror is useless. Regarding infotainment, the touch latency of the screen is poor, as shown. The primary way of interacting with the system is through the rotary controller, just like on a BMW. When you use that, the system is very responsive and there's no perceptible delay.
@@autogefuehl Neither of my two points were considered in the "regular" Giulia review either. "Infotainment is slow" without showing it working perfectly fine if using the rotary controller - replay that part and see it yourself. This creates an impression that the system is outright bad, which is completely misleading. Not only that, but you showed the exact same way of using the infotainment on the Mazda CX-60 in several different videos and didn't mind that it's mostly touch-less. In regards to the camera, you never showed it working as intended, either.
@@autogefuehl Every touchscreen samples input a certain number of times per second. This number is presented as "touch sampling rate" and the responsiveness of the screen depends greatly on that. For example, the iPhone 14 Pro sampling rate is 240Hz (240 times per second). If Alfa used a screen with really low touch sampling rate, like 5Hz, then perceived lag when using it would be no fault of any software. On the other hand, it's possible that their implementation of touch input processing is flawed and causes issues because it's inefficient. Car infotainment systems are still mostly running "embedded" platforms with very low processing power, miles behind what's in modern smartphones. Developing software for them is a nightmare, which is why I assume carmakers want to move on to better hardware.
Thomas, great review of the finest sport sedan on the planet. Still the most beautiful and my personal favorite. As for Mercedes going to a 2.0 4 cyl, have they lost their minds? ha ha
My buddy who has driven all sorts of cars, even owned a Porsche gts which I experienced with him just recently really loved this car when he test drove it years ago. I want one!
This is a definition of a sports car. Its rwd, its powerfull, its relativelt light, looks beutifull, its sporty, gdeat to drive and superb sound. People who care about inside conectiom or tech do not understand its purpose. This is for the weekend car category, to have fun enjoy life.
And the bmw m3 and m4 are the best drivers cars. Better performance. Better interior. Better tech. Plus look better imo . This looks ugly to me. They just copied bmw headlights and added an extra angel light. Bmws 3d headlight look is way more aggresive looking
Always a soft spot for Alfa. Beautiful. Happily live with me. Don't they say if you're a true auto devotee, you've had to have had an Alfa Romeo at some stage. 🤔 (I have 😁👍)
I'm not a crazy Alfa fan , the interior is ok, but that engine sounds awesome and the performance is super for this type of car ! Too bad it's the end of the road for these type of engines and cars the last of the old school great sounding and performing engines. I love how you give a no biased opinion of the pros and cons of the car , that's very cool ! Super detailed review as always Thomas, Tschuss !
If one thinks back to when this car came out and the years passed one understands the true meaning of the design (it's still the most beautiful years later). I'm very amused by the criticism of the infotainment (the only thing really inferior to its competitors but it's still good): it's possible that people who buy a sport-sedan today aren't interested in drivability, lightness, 50/50 distribution, carbon driveshaft? No, the "problem" is the infotainment. No matter how hard I try I can't understand it (I must be too old to do so).
Of course - as i said - this car is about to drive. But if you spend 100 k you can also expect a better infotainment system. Because also sports car lovers do use infotainment features
I don’t think BMW has better interiors than a Giulia. Actually I think some details are even cheaper. I actually love the screen well integrated in the dash, much better than a solution like the A5 where the screen seems to have an aftermarket solution. In any case I believe it looks fresh after many years and also if you are looking into this segment, the Giulia is what you really want.
can confirm good, have a 100th edition, however it definitely is not feature packed for technology. I will reiterate what OP says, race mode is very dangerous.
I drive mine in RACE mode all day, every day. It is a little intimidating at first but, after a couple of weeks, you'll enjoy the fact you can slide it around with incredible control. I'll never sell it.

While the Germans have more sophisticated and luxurious cars, with better infotainment systems and other features, people who buy this kind of car are definitely looking for excitement so i think the Quadrifoglio is the most enjoyable of the bunch to drive. Stellar review as always, Thomas!
thanks! Keep tuning in !
I miss my giulia. Perfect and very reliable 😍😍
Why is it gone?
Alfa reliable? Lol
@@regnorumDunb ass.
Gears are quite close together meaning you get to play with the joyous oversized paddles constantly and feel that little ‘nudge’ in dynamic mode on each shift :)
It’s fair criticism around the infotainment and reversing camera, although I’d choose a small integrated display over a ‘tablet-stuck-on-dashboard’ approach any day. So much neater than many approaches where you squeeze your phone in to an armrest, or see cables.
most welcome!
I bought a Giulia QV last year and i am loving it, just turn off the screen haha also once you learn how to handle the car, Race Mode is totally manageable and a lot of fun! Of course always be careful, because as said in this video, it does come sideways haha
😁
Really sports car. Multimedia does not matter when You are enjoying the drive.
Grande machinna!
Gorgeous design and color.
Italians certainly know how to design cars, no doubt. Does this mean that the new facelift Stelivio QV is next in your reviews?
We had the normal Stelvio here: ua-cam.com/video/cZ_V7CQUNYs/v-deo.html
Apart from the awful Tonale.
After what BMW has done with the latest M3 and M4 models, the Alfa wins in the looks department by default. In other areas, the Alfa seems to measure up quite well.
Thomas is the best car journalist and driving one of the nicest sportsedans. Great review, again👌👍🔥
highly appreciated ! :)
Haha Thomas smiling and trying to find words to express his happiness is a indication of unique car xD
Realty beautiful without useless screens!
Finally the review I’ve been looking for
Great review!
As a owner of Gulia 2.0T MY23 I was looking forward to this review. Thanks
👍👍
Magnificent machine ❤ Giulia is not for infotainment geegs or computer wizzards. it's a car.
Just add an electric drive train:
I'm in love with the Gulia, but the roads here really scream for the Stelvio.
I should probably secure one of the two before production ends. I have unfortunately already missed the white-green stitching.
BTW which red is that?
This is rosso competizione mate.
@@AlfistaGTAI believe its Rosso Etna not competizione
Had an original car, and a 2020 facelift, so it feels like I should get the final version! Unfortunately discounts in the UK just aren't around any more.
this is the best saloon sport car in the market, no questions asked. ( people that buy this car don't really care about the sound of the blinkers :) )
I’m surprised he missed that with the infotainment. He also missed the wireless charger
I m not mentioning everything, i did cover these points in the normal Giulia review: ua-cam.com/video/j9Yq5E_BHo8/v-deo.html
Control know yes, but that it goes quicker with the control knob? I gotta re-check that, doesnt make sense software wise when I think about it
@@autogefuehl Neither of my two points were considered in the "regular" Giulia review either.
As for Mercedes going to a 2.0 4 cyl, have they lost their minds? ha ha
glad u enjoyed !
My buddy who has driven all sorts of cars, even owned a Porsche gts which I experienced with him just recently really loved this car when he test drove it years ago. I want one!
Love the car! Like the indicator sound. Thanks so much Thomas.
This car will be a future classic. Great video.
This is a definition of a sports car. Its rwd, its powerfull, its relativelt light, looks beutifull, its sporty, gdeat to drive and superb sound. People who care about inside conectiom or tech do not understand its purpose. This is for the weekend car category, to have fun enjoy life.
It's a drivers car! Love it.
The RS5 and the Giulia Quadrifoglio are the best looking cars in this class. Hopefully the new RS5 looks just as good.
What matters more is how will they manage a significant weight increase.. Rumor has it its PHEV only but lets hope not.
And the bmw m3 and m4 are the best drivers cars. Better performance. Better interior. Better tech. Plus look better imo . This looks ugly to me. They just copied bmw headlights and added an extra angel light. Bmws 3d headlight look is way more aggresive looking
@@G82WattsRS5 looks better than any BMW
Thanks Thomas….been waiting for this review….this car is class ❤
highly appreciated! Please recommend our channel!
Superb review, beautiful car.
I love my 2020 Alfa, Handles well and sounds great!!!
Dream car... And... secretly, with the new nose, I think this is the best color. Liked the green, but this is more chique than that.
Always a soft spot for Alfa. Beautiful. Happily live with me. Don't they say if you're a true auto devotee, you've had to have had an Alfa Romeo at some stage. 🤔 (I have 😁👍)
147 here. I always wanted to have a 156, but the time I could drive cars, my dad and I could only afford a 147 :)
@@autogefuehl Bingo! Same. Bought mine new, circa 2001. 3 door, red with the larger Alfa wheels. Loved that car. 🤩
probably the best review he see
I'm not a crazy Alfa fan , the interior is ok, but that engine sounds awesome and the performance is
super for this type of car !
Too bad it's the end of the road for these type of engines and cars the last of the old school great sounding and performing engines.
I love how you give a no biased opinion of the pros and cons of the car , that's very cool !
Super detailed review as always Thomas,
Tschuss !
I was just looking for a review of the refreshed QV yesterday
Look Italian ones (Motor1) with captions for more
Love my QV best car I’ve ever had!
Oooooohhh, this makes me miss my Giulia. One of the most beautiful designs, specially that rear end.
Danke für den hilfreichen Test!! Habe mich jetzt doch für den Opel Corsa Bj 1998 entschieden.
I have the diesel and I'm super happy with it,however my dream is....this!
Number one alfa
I´m very happy to get this car in the upcoming month, I still love it !!
I hope one day to own a Giulia…. Such a beauty
Delusional
When the car is lowered those headlights really pop up!
Thank you 🙏🏼 as always, a great review
cheers ! =)
Beautiful. Inside and out.
can confirm good, have a 100th edition, however it definitely is not feature packed for technology. I will reiterate what OP says, race mode is very dangerous.
Alfa should introduce a Giulia sportswagon
It won't happen (they made the Stelvio instead)
the year they add a heads-up display and 60 camera's, I am instantly buying one!
It will happen when they will be powered by batteries :)
This is 100% the Best sport saloon car every thing is so good.. 🇮🇹
I drive mine in RACE mode all day, every day.
It is a little intimidating at first but, after a couple of weeks, you'll enjoy the fact you can slide it around with incredible control.
I'll never sell it.
Perfection, both the car and review.

I can't watch the video right now because I'm about to board my flight. Will watch it later. Is there any chance that Thomas will say "this new Alfa Giulia really sucks, don't buy it, don't drive it... ever!... Alfa really screwed up... bad car.!!!" ??? For my sake, I certainly hope that's what Thomas says.. because I'm falling in love with this Alfa.... (but I just bought a new Bimmer 3 months ago) 😭😭😭 On sceond thought, I'm going to pretend that I've never heard of the Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio... and hide this video from my UA-cam playlist. 😰
hehe no worries enjoy later =)
@@autogefuehl in case I didn't mention this previously.... I bought my new BMW X1 based on the review video on Autogefuehl. After 3 months, I still love it! THANKS! (but the Alfa is so tempting.... maybe next time!)
Cool enjoy 😊
I'd love for LANCIA to come back to this segment!
Nice review..shame the rear room made you choose the BMW. We just let an Alfa QF go and I miss it already. Anyway keep up the great work
Thanks 🙏
I didnt say i d pick the 3series :)
Giulia Quadrifoglio Fantastica😍😎
I can’t wait to own this car one day ❤🍀
Your Fox Racing tee is nice. Are you into dirt biking?
Cheers m8! Yeah always been, started Motocross when I was 13, Mountainbiking same time, still doing it. And watching every US Supercross and Motocross race since forever
@@autogefuehl Ken Roczen should of won the 2017 US AMA Supercross title if he didn't have that nasty crash 😢
this one or the m3 touring
id pick the alfa
Thomas, Harry Kane needs a translator. Your other job? 😂 Good review on one of my favorite cars.
hehe keep tuning in
Hi Thomas. I wonder which Lea would pick, the AMG C63 with the V6 biturbo, the Giulia, or even a AMG C43 with V6 biturbo?
I ll ask 😁
Who is Lea ? Wife?
Ya, and often passenger ofc 😎
Love my QV ☘️❤️
Could you put an aftermarket reverse camera and infotainment screen without too much trouble?
What a beauty. Who cares about that infotament display when you hear that V6. I mean people buy this car cuz of that V6 not cuz of that display. And that digital dash is pure example how it should be,and not what BMW is doing what their horribly ugly tablet style dash. BMW lost its mind. Fortunately we have this beauty.
Drove the veloce over last weekend. Amazing car, but found the indicator selector feeling a bit cheap. Still loved the my time with the Giulia.
Same indicator selector (stalk?) now lives in the Maserati MC20 😀
It looks stunning❤
15 year since I brought my Mito and I'm still waiting for Alfa to introduce a new "Sporty" 3 door NON SUV! :(
Would love to see you do a review on the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing or CT5-V Blackwing. Even a regular CT5-V might be interesting.
Jeremy Clarkson said its phenomenal and better than everything in its class.
Ferrari engine, Ferrari style shifters, steering wheel start button. 🤌🤌
Not a Ferrari engine. The 690T V6 is "derived" from the Ferrari F154 V8.
I love the German honesty about the infotainment system. I think the indicator does sound cheap, but oh well.
The stalks lever is the same as on the Maserati MC20 at least 🤪 and the infotainment is fast when operated using the knob instead.
When the nuclear bombs start dropping, I'll see the mushroom cloud out the rear view mirror of my Alfa !
