- A hairy humanoid, bigfoot-like creature is said to haunt the backwoods and bushes of New Zealand. Called the Moehau, the monster originates from Maori folklore and the describe the terrible creature as half man and half animal. The Moehau, is reported to be very aggressive and happy to massacre and eat anyone it encounters.
'Boogeymen' takes an in-depth look at the history of local monsters and travels to the small, picturesque towns where they appeared to listen to both believers and skeptics as they investigate the most recent sightings.

This was made in 2015. Keith and Barry have both passed away unfortunately. Both really nice guys, I used to live at Driving Creek Railway with Barry and I played music for Keith at some of the Moehau Man events.
A few years ago I was camping in an area close to Bigfoot territory in Ohio near Salt Fork State Park. It was late at night and I had a fire going and was sitting by it reading a book and drinking a beer. Around 11:00 p.m. I heard a strange rustling in the trees behind my tent. Then I heard low guttural growls. I stood up, turned around and as I did a huge hairy creature emerged from the woods not more that 25 feet from me. It stood 8 feet tall and had to weigh in excess of 450 pounds. I stood motionless not knowing what to do when the creature began dictating the narrative. It slowly lifted its right hand and pointed to the beer I was holding in my hand. I immediately realized the beast wanted a COLD beer. And why not? It was at least 85 degrees and so humid you could cut the air with a knife. I popped a brewsky and gave it to him and motioned for him to come sit by my fire.
He capitulated and as we sat by the fire I lit a cigarette. He instantaneously became agitated and started motioning to my mouth and then to his mouth. Damn, the Dude wanted a smoke. So I lit one for Bfoot and we continued socializing, drinking our beer and having a few smokes. Eventually Bfoot's eyelids began to droop. The beer was making him sleepy. He arose, waved goodbye and walked away, whistling as he disappeared into the woods.
I haven't encountered the creature again, but since then I never venture into the woods without my Bud Light and a carton of Marlboros. Hopefully I'll meet the Big Guy again with his wife and children. If so, I hope the kids are at least 21. No way I'm doing time for serving minors. I got a rep to protect.
It seems that Bigfoot now has a new friend called BigMouth
love this
@@MrTheKurgan THANK YOU. I ENJOYED COMPOSING THE CHRONICLE.
Aww man you at least coulda gave him a proper brew
They are in the south too. Saw one when I was 7, and again at about 16.
Sure you did 🤡🤡🤡
What did you see?
OMG I'm a kiwi living in Christchurch south island and I've never ever even heard of a BIGFOOT SPECIES living in this part of this weird wonderful world.
Probably heard a kiwi and shit themselves
Great documentary ❤
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it! Check out another documentary about Australia's Bigfoot if you fancy it! ua-cam.com/video/LAGGnQcr3ho/v-deo.html 😊
Unfortunately, the problem with a creature like this being on an island… How would it get there? How would it have enough food to survive? Because the islands are fairly small… People would be running into them quite often. While I’m sure there’s enough wilderness to House the creatures there, I just don’t think that it is feasible that they would have enough to survive on, unless they somehow learned to fish. Maybe I’m wrong, and there’s more creatures and vegetation out there in the wilderness that they could survive on… But it would be doubtful that many could.
And if there is a breeding population, at what point would they run out of viable partners, and end up inbreeding? Which you would think would cause mutations and ultimately kill off the population at some point.
If somebody can answer all of these questions for me, then maybe I could believe it. I do want to believe these creatures exist, but if they do… I would have a much easier time believing they would exist on large continents, where there is an abundance of food, shelter, and a chance at multiple populations of creatures from different bloodlines that could interbreed and continuing existence without poisoning the gene pool.
lol exactly. a lot of my cousins are hunters typically in many parts of the north island regions. even the south island there ain't no dang bigfoot. if ya want to see a bigfoot or a dogman then go to America where there are plenty.
@@melaroha8003 plenty of sheep I believe
@@MatthewDalglish-jz6lp more sheep than people thats for sure.
See above.
New Zealand is the size of Colorado and has an additional 600 islands scattered around it. In addition it was once connected to Australia and Antarctica before the tectonic plates shifted and they broke away....Dinosaurs fossils were found on new Zealand and not the flying kind so the Island making it impossible doesnt carry weight.
So a Bigfoot had to climb a tree bc the meat was 8ft off the ground? You know a basketball rim is 10ft off the floor so it must've been a tiny Bigfoot
Yep, it was a midget Bigfoot!
No,weren't you listening?
There were no predators here ,so he couldn't fly
They aren't born 7’ tall
Maybe baby Bigfoot? 😂
Bunch of pakeha spinning yarns. Funny that a supposed beast from Maori legend and yet not a single Maori interviewed.
yeah 100% crap, just like skeleton in the cuboard.
Perhaps they a camera shy.
@@donaldferguson3773 you mean bigfoot
What a rubbish comment system
According to Maori legend we have our own Bigfoot. It is an old legend of a creature called the Mohau. It is known by many names depending where in NZ you lived (which shows that different cultures lived here who had different names for it otherwise if all arrivals came from Hawaiiki, they'd call it the same thing. Think about that one awhile!). Maori spoke of of mighty ape-men who resided in the forested areas, these areas they dared not venture into as these hairy beasts were known to tear men apart, had huge lacerating fingernails and fed on human flesh. They were known by many names Moehau, Maero, Matau, Tuuhourangi, Taongina, and Rapuwai. The Moehau were describes by the Maori as being “Terrible creatures, half man, half animal”, with a very aggressive temperament, they were only too happy to massacre and eat anyone that strayed into their domain
'Always wondered why new Zealand don't have any cryptids and sightings.....and there it is....finally
U smoking again
there ain't no bigfoot in NZ this is a joke, probably to keep people out or people from exploring etc.
I grew up in New Zealand until recently and I have heard of encounters from the dark Kauri forests of Northland to the coastal forests of the Waitakeres West Auckland to the Coromandle forests and Mt Moehau on the Peninsula. The Kaimanawas and the mysterious Ureweras East coast. The rugged inhospitable West Coast Haast pass and Mt Aspiring area to the Catlins forest and the rugged Fiordland. People of the trees.

Hey we do have native mammals. A few bat species, that's all, but still.
very good point!
Oh stop it silly. Everyone in the US knows that NZ bats lay eggs.
The Maeroero was a wild man of the woods, covered with long hair, and possessed of great strength and craftiness.

Of course a non-native species can survive in an area that it did not evolve in. Look at mankind. In general we were not native to the vast part of the planet. Our species evolved initially in Africa, but because of a drought caused by an ice age, it forced us out of Africa to explore the other continents. I can easily see an animal coming from one part of the world and migrating to what would become an island if there was some sort of land bridge or sheet of ice as it were where they were able to travel to that area. Look at the native American Indians here in North America. They walked here. There was a ice bridge that they were able to cross from Asia to Alaska / Canada, and eventually moved down to South America from North America. So it is possible for a species to travel to a different place / Island where it was not native to. And who's to say over a period of time that species continue to mutate and evolve into something else because of climate that it moved to. Makes sense to me.
We evolved on Mars. And then came to Earth about two million years ago. Thats why there's no missing link.
What people don't understand is that the Hairy man of New Zealand, the Yowie, the Bigfoot are all the same character. But he is more of a beast than a man, and in fact he is an ET pet. Yes, that's true. By any name you choose to call him Bigfoot is an extraterrestrial pet. ET takes with him on those long journey through the stars to keep him company. He's just like a dog like that, 100% loyal you know. An when he needs to mark his territory ET stops his flying saucer, and lets him relieve himself, and then just as quick as you like he hops back onboard and off they go! That's why he is seen but never found. Oh yeah, the Moehau, the Yowie, Sasquatch, Bigfoot, their all the same creature. Just an ET pet is what he is. Now don't you be laughing, cause one of these days you might see a UFO for yourself. And be careful what you wish for, because what do you think he eats?! Thats why all those people keep disappearing, the Moehau got 'em! Don't say I didn't warn you.
I’d like to know what kind of drugs you’re on, I want to get some, living a science-fiction life👍🏽
Hairy man is better at rugby than a yowie though?
If the Yowie, Bigfooty whatever, if it was capable of everything people claim, we would be living in their zoos, fling or crap at them
U smoking pot again and triping also
@@MatthewDalglish-jz6lp I wasn’t too high to see, that there wasn’t any indigenous people in the video
defo there
hairy, hairy barefoot out there. Be aware, be aware my tickle finger scare

There are characters out there that would say a island 10 mile square has a bigfoot living there
Is this a joke?
the Moehau, is very discreet, you know why? because there ain't no Moehau lol
You know nothing about these ancient human like people especially here in Aotearoa.
@@allanlindsay72 my whanau have been hunter gatherers for over 90 years all around the north island king country down to remutaka, and they ain't seen a bigfoot or anything like that, my uncles have seen a patupaiarehe but not a bigfoot lmao. bigfoot and dogmen are real creatures mainly in America, Russia, scotland, and Ireland but not in Aotearoa.
@melaroha8003 I have had an encounter in the Waitakeres West Auckland and have photographic evidence to prove it, so you're wrong. Just because your whanau hasn't seen one doesn't mean they are not there.
@@allanlindsay72 like i said bigfoot dogmen are real creatures, if there was a bigfoot here in aotearoa ,well, there isn't now, these creatures come and go,bigfoot has a lot to do with aliens as well, contacting us in the form of Bigfoot, UFOs, orbs, and other inter-dimensional paranormal phenomena. may be bigfoot will return one day. I've seen alot of bigfoot videos pictures, so I'm not suprised you have one.

Apart from the 1967 Paterson Gimlin Footage...has anyone captured a real time Bigfoot on camera till date?? 🙄
Yes
There is the 1994 Paul Freeman footage and the 2001 Harley Hoffman footage.
Yeah, they call it bigfooty even though it’s only got three toes?
Bulshet
Biden has hairy legs?
Thats your mamma!
@@stefanschleps8758 and that's your daddy?
I’ve never seen it I’ve never heard it but it must be there.. Wtf is gramps smoking 🙄😂
Nope fake BigFoot fake
THE PROBLEM WITH BIGFOOT IS THAT IT HAS NOT BEEN ACTUALLY PROVEN AND ALL THE PICTURE'S AND VIDEOS ARE NOT CLEAR WITH ALL THE TECHNOLOGY WE HAVE TODAY. I HAVE ASK SOMEONE TO EXPLAIN TO ME WHY ALL PICS AND VIDEOES ARE NOT CLEAR AND NO ONE HAS TRIED SO BIGFOOT IS FAKE
it has been proven... If navy seals say they saw it/cops/sheriff officers/ no way they are all wrong. Remember 4 years ago there were no ufo's but now the govt. admits they are real but called everyone crazy for decades just drunks and hillbillies. There is DNA..
There is scientific evidence and thousands of credible eye witness testimonies of face to face encounters from around the world to support the existence of Sasquatch. Believe what you wish but these ancient human like people exist.
