    This AR15 is simple but I think this variant shows good quality considering it's budget price point. I would check out a DPMS Oracle if you haven't already done so.

    The Oracle (I have two) is perfect for cheapo home defense. BUT, they also make a perfect platform for customizing. I built up one for CQ shooting and one for distance. They both perform flawlessly, couldn't be happier.

    DPMS AR-15 Oracle....For most people who want a good home protection rifle, it meets the need just fine. It is reliable, and shoots as well as any other AR-15 I have shot, including Colt, S&W, and Daniel Defense. It is might not be as rugged, or as accurate in tight situations, but overall it meets the basic to moderate AR-15 standards. With a simple red-dot scope or metal sight, it is deadly accurate at 200+ yards.

    Picked my DPMS Oracle up for about $550 when the market was heavy back in 2017 and honestly I love it. I have had no issues and have only changed to a rail and a red dot. If i knew it was this good and I'd love the AR that much i would have bought 3 at the time. Truly this is a great budget and reliable AR platform. Just my opinion but over 2,000 rounds and still going strong and on point.

    Got mine last year (2018) for under $400 with a coupon from Dunhams. Put a red dot scope on it and am ready to go. My first ar and I am happy with it.

    Fantastic entry level rife. These are a great foundation for a build. I’ve had mine for 12 years. Through the years I’ve built it up to my needs and wants. Additions like an improved stock and pistol grip. Just recently, swapped out the 16” pencil barrel with a Seekins 18” heavy match Stainless barrel. Added a 15” M-lok free floating rail. I will replace the trigger group with a cassette trigger group. Like I said great rifle. Right out of the box this rifle ran with no issues. It ate whatever I feed it. Nice tight groups. This rifle has been ultra reliable. My so liked it so much, he purchased a DPMS as well.

    I have one with about 4000 rounds through it and it still runs great! The only thing I have ever had to do to it is replace the gas rings and clean it. It also shoots sub MOA groups at 300 yards off a bench with Tula Ammo. So I am a big fan of the them!

      @METALLIMAN I don't like to diss people on youtube, for there's too much of that already, but a Colt mils-spec M4 is not designed as a sub-MOA gun (mil-spec for this rifle for the US military is 4 MOA). Getting sun-MOA with a budget rifle and garbage ammo? Don't think so

    You can't beat the price for these DPMS rifles. Shoot it at the range, home defense or battle front. Same materials as the others, 7075-T6 machined aluminum upper and lower. From a distance you can't tell the difference until you see the stamp on the side. DPMS Warrior, Colt MOE and the Bushmaster MOE look pretty much the same except for the barrels and brand stamp.
    Thanks for the post!

    Love this video because you have a grasp on reality. :) Most folks will never use this as a combat weapon, ergo it doesn't need to be able to spit out 1K rounds in an hr. I recommend this to folks all the time, especially (as you pointed out) it's the transformer toy for men. :).

    Awesome video! I owned an Oracle 5.56 for three years and had no issues with it whatsoever. If you look around online you can snag em for $499. The gun is a great beginner AR. Only really issue I had was trying to find a low cost iron sight for the low front gas block. Ended up dropping $90 on a Midwest Industries low profile gas block flip up front iron sight and was good to go.

  • @mikehunt2190
    @mikehunt2190 6 років тому

    I picked one up for 475 dollars a few months ago. Shoots good, however i did run into a problem with excessive windage needed to zero it in. I tried different sights. Gas block is in proper aligmnent and so is the rear rail. So that leaves an improper barrel index as the problem. Ill contact DPMS and see what they say and if they will correct it.

    Great video, I was considering buying this firearm and now I feel comfortable buying it. Quick question for anyone who knows about this gun. Can I put a mid length hand guard on this gun or does the gas block get in the way?

    • @ryanadams7265
      @ryanadams7265 6 років тому

      Alec Navarro I just replaced the gas block with a low profile one and put a freefloat hand guard on it, if you don't have the tools to do it yourself, a local gunsmith will be able to for probably around 50-75 bucks, and it's worth it, free floated at-15's are more accurate.

    @escapedfromnewyork 4 роки тому

    BCG gas key bolts actually look to be a bit "overstaked". When the bots are staked to the point that the bolt head is deformed (they sort of appear to be from the video) they can cause the metal of the bolt to become brittle, and you don't want the bolt screw to snap off. This could seriously ruin your day.
    I'm not an AR snob. I have many, including a DPMS that I upgraded. I didn't hear it in the review, but you cannot use irons on this rifle without some doing. The railed gas block sits quite a bit lower than the rails on the receiver, so irons WILL NOT line up. You will need to purchase a special high profile front sight, along with a standard rear sight. The gas block is also made of aluminum, while the barrel is steel. Steel & aluminum expand and contract at different temps, resulting in gas leaks/gas loss. It is fine considering it is a budget rifle.
    I ended up removing my gas block and replacing with a low profile gas block (.750") and added a free floated handguard. Free floating improved accuracy and allowed the use of a standard set of irons.
    People bitch about the fact that the DPMS barrel is not chrome lined, but unlined barrels are inherently more accurate. If you're cleaning it after use and maintaining it, you are better off. Chrome lined barrels are good for field conditions, where cleaning may not be done as often as they should be, but the average person will be better off with a non-lined barrel.
    Lastly, you cannot just change the stock on a DPMS. The DPMS uses a commercial grade buffer extension, which is larger and uses 6061 aluminum. You will need to get a new receiver extension (buffer tube), but you can get one reasonably priced from Aero Precision made of 7075-T6 aluminum, May as well if you're swapping the stock. The cost of these upgrades can add up, so beware.

Also the dpms LR308 is the only company that has sole rights to the Armlite rights meaning they make a top tear manufactured AR10. People say what you want dpms are not garbage. Throw some magpul furniture on it and you have a good No bullshit AR.

      Cellis313 you probably figured it out already since its been five months that you have asked this question but I replaced mine with a 6.5" quad rail two piece and it fits perfectly in place of the old glacier hand guard. I would recommend getting a grip to put on the bottom, one that would feel comfortable to you and rubber that goes on the quad guard rails, because when I shot with mine without them, that sucker got pretty warm to hold onto once I shot 60 to 70 rounds through it.

      The Green Man I bought my ruger AR556 and I love it. Granite shoot straight in Clearwater had it for $450 and I paid $600 I still think I got a badass deal. I will buy any ar15 that is affordable

      The Green Man Not everyone is interested in building their first AR from scratch believe it or not. I'm not sure what your problem is with DPMS but I've seen MANY videos of Oracle/Sportical owners that absolutely love their rifle and with it being $100-150 less than the Smith or Ruger and not having the awful front sight post I'd say it's a good AR-15. I'm pretty sure all the "budget AR's in the $400-600 range have very similar specs and the ones that aren't, like chrome lined vs non chrome lined and twist rates all have pro's and con's that really don't affect the average shooter that doesn't put 1,000's of rounds down range a month.

      The ruger has the front sight. When i bought mine my friend told me it was 100.00 bucks to by a gas block to replace it. I see now there about 60.00 bucks on cheaper than dirts sight

      Yes, you can use .223 in any 5.56 barrel, but not the other way around! 5.56 has a higher chamber pressure. Dpms did the 5.56 barrel...a nice touch.

      You can shoot 223 ammo in a 556, but not 556 in a 223. People do it all the time, but you shouldn't. 556 is loaded to a higher pressure than 223, and but shooting 556 ammo in a rifle designed for 223 can cause damage to the firearm and injury to the shooter in the even it fails.

    If you don't shoot at all and you just need a gun for home defense I'd say go for it, but if you are looking for something to go to the range and shoot more often I'd stay away from this guy. This gun has no chrome line, no melonite, and no CMV on the barrel so you will have to clean it and keep it under clean all the time, and it won't take abuses too well.

    I'd avoid this if you are looking for anything you are going to be putting more then a mag though at any given time, the barrel profile on the Oracle is well.....shockingly thin, they call it pencil profile but it's barely even that, this will heat up quickly, accuracy is basicly gone after one mag, you will see how wide your groups open up.
    Basicly, GOVT profile is my chosen standard, and most AR style rifles stay atleast this thick for a reason......on this, it's just to make it cheap, thinner barrel blanks are cheaper and easier to make.

      Yourleftnut, I laugh at all these people that talk shit about some of these budget guns like the DPMS. But I don’t think they realize that DPMS is made by Remington. The first thing I noticed with my gun before I bought it, was how tight of a fit there was between the upper and lower. I’ve played hell trying to get any light to shine through it.

      You must have gotten a dud or something because my barrel is just fine. Ran about 150 rounds through it under an hour and never had a problem with the grouping or anything.
