actually, no, i have dwnloaded the wiibrowser from the old homebrewbrowser, and that one works, there is an update to the latest version, and that version is bugged, i could never get it to work, the only version i could get to work was rev121, rev132 from what i've done, is bugged and won't load any website at all, and the site from which wiibrowser is updated from have been "archived" by the site host so, i think wiibrowser is a lost cause
I mean, I assume this entire thing around encryption is also at least part of why the Internet Channel fails, or more to the point it’s the outdated SSL versions involved. The modern web is fairly ruthless about backwards compatibility because many older TLS/SSL versions can be used to attacks even on connections that should use more modern versions.
The secure transaction error is probably due to the underlying browser not supporting TLS 1.2. It's an issue on most older operating systems or devices like PDAs, this and old SSL certificates.
I remember getting the swine flu in 2009. my laptop was broken so I had to use my wii's browser to pass the time lol. I remember you could even use a keyboard and play some flash games

The switch from http to https and TLS 1.2 is what really killed this thing. Old browsers don’t understand the higher level security standards we have today.

Found my Wii in a cabinet the other day, so I decided to turn it on. The last time I had used it was back in 2011, during my first year of high school. When I opened the browser, it still had a bunch of old webpages pulled up, which included MyYearBook, the old Hotmail site, and the old UA-cam.
17:43 they also used to sell the opposite product: a usb stick that, when connected to a computer connected via ethernet, created a Wifi access point for those who only had a wired connection.
If you find yourself needing to do more Wii capture, consider investing in some component cables or one of the better Wii->HDMI adaptors. Hyperkin makes a decent one.
I was going to suggest doing this on the DSi, because back in the day there was a video on UA-cam running on a DSi using the same kind of tech as browservice. Was very intriguing since flash wasn't supported on the DSi.

Hi, I just wanted to say I discovered your channel about a month or two ago and I absolutely love this kind of stuff. The Wii was my first console and I still use it pretty regularly so seeing fun experiments like this is always a great time. I will say, I remember using the Wii version of Opera in 2016/2017 and it could load Wikipedia and UA-cam without issue. I wonder when exactly they became inaccessible? I remember the only weird thing being that Wikipedia wouldn't display italics but otherwise the site was fully functional.
I used to use WiiBrowser to download Sonic rom hacks to my Wii to run them through an emulator. It doesn't have any CSS support at all, so all webpages are displayed without styling, it used to work pretty well and really responsively from memory. I'd recommend trying some different websites, I remember Google working at one point, but I guess something broke over the past 2 years.

The Military was using it in 1969 and businesses and nerds were using it in the 80's but it did go mainstream around 1993 so it is still weird to think about there being more time between now and the Wii than the Wii and the mainstream internet.

The Wii's internet was never very good. Just use a computer or even a phone. Even a basic phone is multiple times faster internet than a Wii, when the internet actually worked.
There's not much point to it now anyway, pretty much everybody has a smartphone now or even a computer, those have like at least 10x the specs that the Wii had, the Wii also wasn't HD on top of that. For the time when smartphones were hardly a thing and many families had one computer and most online content wasn't HD anyway, the Wii Browser was decent though.

Browsing the internet on a Wii was painfull especially having to use the virtual keyboard with the remote. 7:05: Even if the UA-cam page DID load, it would not be able to load any videos because the Internet Channel doesn't support HTML5 at all. The Internet Channel was made back in the day when videos were in Flash format, which, of course, is no longer used at all by pretty much *any* website.
Browservice does work on the Wii Internet Channel, I tried it via a wireless connection and it worked fine. You need a USB Keyboard plugged in to use it since the Wii won't show the on screen keyboard when you go to type in something

Dude, personal recommendation here: get a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle. It's USB 3.0, records up to 1080p30 and 720p60, it's sorta cheap, works with OBS and has input and passthrough ports for pretty much anything you might need (HDMI, S-Video, Composite and IIRC even Component?)
It could be that these websites load the mobile version because you usually test old browsers on old hardware with a low resolution. And screen size (resolution) is the most used way to toggle the website to or from mobile view.

You can hook browservice up to your lan and just type it's ip up in the Wii. I did this with 98 and it worked for me.

The Wii's Internet Channel was my first proper exposure on exploring the wonderful world known as THE INTERNET at my home back in 2008. It changed my life forever. Never stopped exploring the internet ever since.

Dude, personal recommendation here: get a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle. It's USB 3.0, records up to 1080p30 and 720p60, it's sorta cheap, works with OBS and has input and passthrough ports for pretty much anything you might need (HDMI, S-Video, Composite and IIRC even Component?)

It could be that these websites load the mobile version because you usually test old browsers on old hardware with a low resolution. And screen size (resolution) is the most used way to toggle the website to or from mobile view.
