It's a shame modern true crime shows don't hold a candle to Forensic Files and The New Detectives, most if not all stuff on Investigation Discovery doesn't have the same focus on the investigation, and in some shows they even spoil who did it which kills the point of a show about detective work.

You are so right. Crime shows of today seem more interested in showing the gore of murder - not the work that goes into solving the crime. I had to stop watching the ID channel for this very reason.

Don't let the coppaganda fool you. These shows sometimes skew, add or leave out details to make the shows more appealing to viewers, to make people feel "safe" in the "competence" of our law enforcement. It is becoming increasingly apparent that cops are responsible for a great many-of-homicides, especially of people-of-color.

Even though he avoided the death penalty and will spend the rest of his life in prison, justice still had been served and he will no longer hurt others again.

He turned the gas on before he left the bodies hoping something would eventually spark causing the place to flare up, further concealing the evidence/cause of death.
Had the gas been ignited somehow, it indeed most likely would have destroyed any entomological evidence entirely as well. The case very well could have gone cold, had his plan worked as he originally intended, and instead of being in prison right now, (or dead or whatever happened to him since then,) he'd have collected the insurance money and gotten away with their murders scott-free.

I read a huge transcript of the trial from last case. They actually told the jury to disregard the findings of time of death! Yet when someone character assassinated you in court people take notice even if an objection is held. They told the jury many times to disregard what officer Applegate stated. However people still remember and hear it. Which inturns gives opinions off what you hear even if the judge says disregard what was said. This is court politics. This guy was not the main beneficiary of the granddaughters life insurance policy! His wife was. The trial wasnt about evidence of him killing his stepson, daughter in law and grand daughter. Most of what I read was just all hearsay and how he committed insurance scams. They technically had nothing on this guy. There was hearsay from a witness named page who said annie(the wife-victim-mother of 4 year old) that annie and stepson were actually going to this vacation home to commit a car insurance scam. No evidence of this at all. This whole thing reads as no evidence and people just character assassinating this guy. Now I'm not sure of how guilty he is. They never tested any dna, blood, anything found under their fingernails, they even found a few hairs in the bed-crib with 4 year old. They literally had nothing to connect this 50 year old stepdad. It was just a game of debate and see what team won. After reading this for over an hour I couldnt send a man to prison for life on what i read. He was a conman sure. He also allegedly paid the victim annie for sex. The entire family were allegedly bad. The stepson was in and out of jail. Annie was hanging with drug dealers and even Krystal the 4 year old wasnt with her as she lost custody basically for an amount of time. The stepdad and his wife took care of krystal til annie got on her feet. There are way to many loose ends here and this guy got convicted on theory and character assassination. I used to think he was 100% guilty back in the day when this 1st started 20ish years ago. Now I read the case files and don't immediately believe these biased shows. Here read this

But what about Harold Connor (the business partner)? His mother Cookie LeBlanc was convinced that Alan Michael Rubenstein had murdered her son. She said Harold hating hunting and that she learned from Harold's girlfriend, that Rubenstein had taken an insurance policy on Harold's life and that he was going to collect on it. Cookie then said "No, nobody's going to get any money off my son". If Connor didn't like hunting, how did he finally agree to go? The answer, was that Darrell (then 10) was able to convince Connor to go. However a guy named Michael Fournier (An ex convict and an acquaintance of Rubenstein) was the one who was carrying the gun that killed Connor. The reports stated that as everyone got out and began unloading, Fournier who was 10 feet behind Connor, said he tripped over his shoelaces, fell and accidently shot Harold in the back. It was in April of 1984 that the court denied Rubenstein's request for the insurance claim.

Has anyone else noticed that the “like” button is behaving strangely/differently? Sometimes it takes me three goes to get the “like” button to show that I have “clicked” it. Just now, I “clicked” the “like” button and then scrolled down to the comments and then, when I scrolled back up again... the button was no longer showing that I’d clicked it. I’m viewing on my phone.
To test this out. I repeated clicking and scrolling several times and each time my “like” would disappear. Anyway, please just double check that this doesn’t happen to you too. I’ve noticed it on various channels and then on other channels I have absolutely no trouble at all and it works fine and stays there.
Another time I clicked “like” and paused the video half way through. Later that day I went back to continue watching the video and my “like” was gone.
It’s not fair for channels because the data is not going to be accurate. Anyway thought I’d let you know.
Edit - posted this comment and once again the “like” button has cleared itself. I clicked it again and, for the record, I was “like” number 469.
There’s a glitch in the matrix.
    Edit - and again, (469).
I’m sure when I post this and exit the comments, my “like” will be gone again. It’s a bit suss.
    Edit: Yup, I was right.

There's alot more to say about Alan Michael Rubenstein. The business partner (The hunting accident victim) was Harold Connor Jr (23). His girlfriend, mother and his cousin stated, that Harold had never went hunting before and was disgusted by the idea of killing animals and that he didn't pack the proper clothing for that kind of trip. So why did Connor go on the trip, if he didn't like hunting? Perhaps the only reason Connor was on that trip, was at Mike's insistance . Rubenstein's friend Michael Fournier was the one shot him. He was standing less than 10 feet behind Connor when the shot went off. The pellets struck Connor in the back, slightly above the waist, and traveled generally in a lateral path through his body. Fournier claims that the gun discharged when he tripped, and Darryl Perry, in corroborating his testimony, claims that the gun discharged about when the butt was close to the ground and while the barrel was pointed diagonally upward in the direction of Connor. This testimony, however, was flatly contradicted by the forensic scientist and pathologist, who concluded that in view of the lateral path of the pellets through Connor's body above his waist, the barrel of the gun must have been parallel (horizontal) to the ground and at waist level at the time of discharge. Further, because of its safety device, in order for the gun to have been discharged, it must have been loaded, cocked, and the trigger pulled. The firing pin could not have been activated just by the gun striking the ground. (Testimony of forensic scientist Ronald Singer and pathologist Dr. Tom D. Norman.) Thank goodness Rubenstein didn't get any money from Harold Connor's death and that the manner of death was later changed from accidental to undetermind.

What insurance broker on earth issues life insurance on a 4 year old,the whole point of life insurance is to protect a family or business partner from going through financial hardship due to loss of income in the event of the death of a contributor to said finances,it shouldn't even be possible to get life insurance on a four year old and should be limited to late teens and older who are proven to be financially contributing to an arrangement such as business or relationship household.
