GI Joe intros - 1983 to 1987 (the Sunbow years)

- Just a compilation I did of the intros for the animated GI Joe series and the movie by Sunbow and Marvel in chronological order. The unique thing about each of the intro sequences is that they were self-contained mini-adventures with a definite start and triumphant finish, something that later sequences after this "era" would lack. Here's a breakdown of what is in the clip:
1983
G.I. Joe: The Mass Device Pilot miniseries intro
1984
G.I. Joe: The Revenge of Cobra miniseries intro
1985
G.I. Joe: The Pyramid of Darkness starting season miniseries
This was also the acting title sequence for the first season
1986
G.I. Joe: Arise, Serpentor. Arise! season miniseries start
This was also the acting title sequence for the second season
1987
G.I. Joe: The Movie
This was the last G.I. Joe production that Sunbow would work on and arguably the best introductory sequence out of the entire animated history of the franchise.
I love these Sunbow shoes. G.I. Joe and Transformers are spiritually linked. R.I.P. Chris Latta.

I love how the Joes kick Destro out of the gun turret and toss him around; "Let's play hot potato! Ol' Tin Face here can be the potato!"

I ball these intros all into one word........ memories.
These were the cartoons!!!!!! Unlike modern ones -.-
I like how they throw Destro around like a sack of potatoes.
This is the G.I.Joe I know and loved. This animated series,the Hasbro Toy line and Marvel Comics were it for me. Forget the D.I.C. Series,G.I.Joe Extreme and everything that came after that.
The movie opening is still the best one of them all! Yo Joe!
WHY would Cobra trust the delivery of that bomb to it's leader?....or it's second in command? I forgot Serpentor was at the head of the table at that time......
Cobra Commander was not the second in command he was Serpentor's scapegoat and the other high ranking Cobras don't respect him, so they give him the most dirty and dangerous jobs.
Well, even after what they did to Cobra Commander in the movie, they still lost. Jokes on them.

With the GI JOE the movie intro, which is all kinds of awesome, I might add. That was GI Joe's last hurrah for me. Everything after that went downhill sadly.

G.I Joe was the only show that could do something like introduce a real life pro wrestler into the show and instead of making it hokey and cause the show to jump the shark it made the show even more bad ass.
how come they rarely get shot in these cartoons? and they are firing all the time! :P
Ryan Raikoh-Well the Pentagon had to have final approval of every episode because they didn't want the Military looked at in a negative light. Crazy but true.

The movie intro was great, but it shows just how useless Cobra was in the show. They had an hidden air fleet, paratroopers, androids, even a flying aircraft carrier. all of it useless.
Sunbow AND Marvel made this show during this period.

I always liked the third intro, then the one after it but The Movie version is still the best.
Has anyone else noticed that in the G I Joe the movie title sequence that one of the main charactors was not shown. I wonder why Serpentor ( whom i absolutley hated) was left out of the title opening.
serpentor was suppose to be a surprise character, more hype im thinking
Because I think that the intro is what just happened before the movie started, Serpentor was berating his followers for that failure, so he wasn't there. What I personnally find annoying is how they showed almost no Dreadnoks, only Torch. But I would have liked to see Zartan in it.

Also Cobra Commander sounds like starscream from The Transformers

Why do I get the feeling that G.I. Joe is a clone of SHEILD and HYDRA?
Because it was originally meant to be the son of Nick Fury's team vs Hydra but they changed their mind on it and created two new teams.
CosmoShidan Well, there are similarities, but the G.I. Joe toy/comic book/animated franchise was influenced by Star Wars by the 1980s.
