I've watched you all summer long, i'm also in Texas and had extreme droughts as well. I got away with 1 day a week watering even tho we had no rain for months with 115 degree days and the yard stayed green as can be. I used mirimichi green (carbonizPN or CarbonPro G) from siteone or Ewing irrigation, i ditched all synthetic fertilizers and spoon fed with Fish emulsion. I'm convinced that synthetic ferts is the devil in summer, even used before summer. good luck.
It has worked great for me too! I’ve always thought about doing it, since we’re not allowed to spray in the air… but glad I finally pulled the trigger!
Agreed about the pre-emergent. I'm in DFW and soils temps are in the high 80s and everyone is freaking out and all wanting to throw down pre-emergent already.
One thing I`ve learned the past 2 summers is how resilient Bermuda grass is and it WILL bounce back. I`ve struggled with watering my 10K lawn on a well. I have another area where I laid 3 pallets of sod for a berm to keep water in the bar ditch 5 years ago. I completely quit watering it in June (gave up) and it went dormant by the middle of July. After getting 3 inches of slow rain at the end of August it looks really good again. I`ve had nice lawns for 40 years and one thing I have learned is droughts come to an end and thing will get better. This too shall pass is what I always say, and it does. Great idea using the soaker hose. Gotta be smart with water during a drought. I went with a tractor style sprinkler instead of my sprinkler system because it keeps all of the water close to the ground and I don`t lose any from high winds where I live. Hopefully this front moving thru this week will bring some much-needed relief. Thanks for the video.
Hey man. Appreciate your posts. I’m in central TX so you know how bad we’ve had it here with lack of rainfall. We also had watering restrictions for 3 months. Today I watered for the first time and I mowed yesterday. I keep a 2” HOC. A lot of dead grass was cut up ! Anyway, do you recommend I still try to apply fertilizer and pre- emergent this week with how stressed my Bermuda has been ? I don’t want to make things worse for my Bermuda- I just want to do what I can now before full dormancy goes into affect here in Central Tx for Bermuda grass. Thanks !
Depending on how checked out your bermuda is/was, I would normally just recommend water until it gets to a point to where it’s salvageable again haha. Trust me I was itching to get some down for months, but I didn’t want to pull the trigger because I think it would’ve caused more stress than good for the grass. Thank you for watching and commenting! It helps the channel out tremendously and I love reading everyone’s trials, tribulations, and success stories in their lawns!
Live the soaker hose idea. I have 4 spots like that and even with a sprinkler they are dry. After a good rain last week they pepped up so I think something really slow that can soak in my work.
time to put drip under the yard......i installed drip irrigation under my front yard before laying sod.....my tiftuf looks amazing....id be happy to show you how i did it. i put down pre-m 10/1
I’ll probably put down some Flagship. I need to put something down that has all the macros because it’s been a long time since it got anything. I just happen to have Flagship in the garage already.
Hello, we live in Seguin. Thanks for the videos, it’s helpful to learn from someone who is in the same area as you. Question- what would happen if you dethatched your lawn with a dethatch rake now in October? If it’s the wrong move, what would you do to fix the mistake?
If you’re not doing it too aggressively, it won’t hurt anything. Those rakes are HARD work. Bermuda is a pain to manually dethatch because how thick the runners get.
Looks great, Im up here in Fort Worth and experiencing the same thing. Here is a question that I think I may know the answer to but I'd like to hear what you think. About 50% of my lawn is dirt. It was covered by weeds but after killing those off Im left with a lot of calcium/clay rich dirt. My bermuda didn't spread as much as I would have liked and am still still battling new spurge monthly with 2-4d in the bare dirt. Should I apply a pre-emergent to combat the weeds or should I keep spraying as they pop up since the pre-emergent may reduce how fast I can get this bermuda to spread? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!
Another great video. Thanks for the link and info on the drip system. Was it just connected straight the faucet or on a timer? How long did you do the drip and what time of day? I'm down the street in north San Antonio so this will work for my side yard too with us at stage 2 restrictions
Hey Rhett - love your videos! (Also, gig 'em - I see you wear Aggie shirts quite a bit!) I'm located in Fort Worth. With the upcoming forecasted rainfall this week both here and down in Central TX, should we be putting down fertilizer now and then pre-emergent in a few weeks after? What is the order/timing of those that you'd recommend? Thanks!!
I’m going to put down my pre-em mid/late October. I’ll probably put down my last bit of fert early November. I haven’t put anything out in a LONG time, but I think this week might be the time. Gig ‘em!
@@LawnInsidereven though I'm an old Longhorn, lol, with the rain coming this week, are you putting your pre-emergent down, now, instead of later? I'm thinking of doing that, but want to be sure it's OK to do so.
I had skid steer tear up my whole yard getting some cement laid in my backyard. It will need to be graded and leveled. Do you think sand will do? And do you think I should try to push growth before winter dormancy and get it back to 75-85% coverage. Waco, Tx
@@JoeBilello1969 first of all for the reassurance. Rye is fairly fairly dummy proof. It’s going to mostly take even if you do basically everything wrong. Even if it doesn’t, it germinates so fast, you can just hit the thin spots later and in two weeks it’ll be nice and thick. Your plan is solid. The peat moss will serve multiple purposes, but most importantly should keep the seed in place and retain better moisture levels. Only thing I would add is to scalp that area way down prior to adding the seed.

Finally, a lawn guy who lives where I live. Now maybe I can figure out how take back my lawn! Just subbed
Welcome to the channel! Hope you find it helpful! Lots of content available already and lots more to come!
The soaker hose saved my lawn this year. I’ve always used one for my foundation but then I started snaking it through my lawn. Incredible results.

Good advice. We badly need that rain front to actually give us rain
Amen! Bring on that 🌧️ this weather has been tough. Fingers crossed for later this week!

Rhett, how long do you leave the soaker hose on and how often per week do you water with the soaker hose? In Veramendi. Thank you/
I’ve been doing it just once per week. I’ll leave it on in whatever spot I’m trying to treat for about an hour or so.
I'm in San Antonio and I'm thinking mid October for Prodiamine. I'm still mowing once a week. What are your thoughts to that?
