This whole podcast had everything us males in nz should be doing more of with our friends, talking about old stories, having laughs but also chatting about anxiety/depression . Conversations like this is a must for us.
JK walks the talk. For Macca to feel he could go to him back then shows why he is important in men's mental health now. Not only that but he adds to the absolute hilarity of Macca and Ridgy. Those show's were absolutely brilliant.
my cheeks are killing me from the permanent smile! Love this f@#kn show!!! Just nostalgic memories flowing back! Can't get enough of these cool yarns from back in the day!
As a Manly fan we were privileged to have Ridgey as one of us in the 90s. Without him, we don't win the 1996 Grand Final. Not just his goal kicking which was top class, but his professionalism and competitiveness pushed his team mates to be better.
As a kiwi living in Dallas, Texas now days and having grown up watching JK, Ridge'y and Marc Ellis in union and league this podcast I stumble across was sick!!
I got told off for laughing in bed. Woke the bloody dog up. Apparently noise cancelling head phones don’t cancel the noise I make. Great show - well done to all involved
Such a good talk guys. All of you guys have entertained the heck out of me for years but it's nice to hear some wise words along with the great stories.
Best episode to date!!! The chemistry was amazing! Sore cheeks from laughing so much! Bring back Ridgy and JK once a month. 🫡🫡 to the boys!!!! Legends!!!!
Absolute Gold well Done team if anyone is doing anything for Mental Health it's Sportscafe because Macca making us laugh every week is a beautiful thing thanks heaps team ❤😂🍻
I hated Elles and Rigde when I was younger, but having grown in experience and wisdom as I aged I've learnt were not all the same and that these fellas actually bought us all a wealth of entertainment on and off the feild ... John Kirwian is just a legend who gave me the strength to face my own mental health issues in my late 20s which literally saved my life and for that I am eternally grateful.
Times have changed so much and what use to be acceptable isnt today, so its dam refreshing to watch some blokes drink, swear & reminisce old war stories. No harm done, in fact touched on some serious issues, with solutions. JK is a legend, and well deserved of his Knighthood.
Grew up watching macca and ridgey during the golden days and man such a trip to see them both together again talking about their backstrories of their carrers , honestly need to bring them back. Also sir john kerwin giving macca advice on anxiety and depression just class...nowadays people can talk freely about it and help will be there but man gotta understand back then men had to be harder than rocks and the fact sir JK came out speak about it help others during a time when men cant cry kind of mentality was just and still class. Hoping for another episode to see these guys again.
This was the best episode yet Ric. Awesome to listen to the guys talk about their careers and the modern game but to talk about, and accept, their challenges with mental health breaks down barriers for all people suffering through the same issues. This cant be praised enough. Kudos to Tom Robinson as well. Was always a fan of him and am very proud he's finding his own path after rugby.
Good on you ric for pulling this altogether and bringing us plenty of joy reminiscing of tv we all grew up on. Sports cafe-ish is the only show I wait for in anticipation each week. Long it may continue!
As a kiwi-born poly who grew up in the 90s/00s, This is the best podcast I've seen in a long time. Thanks for bringing back some good memories! Legends! I truly miss the good ol Kiwi humour we all grew up watching.
Good on you ric for pulling this altogether and bringing us plenty of joy reminiscing of tv we all grew up on. Sports cafe-ish is the only show I wait for in anticipation each week. Long it may continue!
Great show! Ridgy & Macca talked about the crazy things they got up to back in the day on their show and now days it wouldn’t be tolerated, that’s exactly what we need to see and hear again in this crazy PC world , genuine hilarity and laughter!
Just magic! Elite athletes swimming up stream, provides great anecdotes, hillarious moments, that in hindsight & maturity is very insightful. Just great TV
This lived up to the hype but not the way I expected. I have never been so riveted to a podcast than this one it had everything. Laughs. Perspective. Retrospect. Insight. Great yarns. A greedy Ric. 😂😂 I love the Sportcafe Sir JK he is so laid back and in his Spielberg productions persona. I love it. Ridgey being on was so awesome. The chat about the sudden fallout of him and Zinny was absolutely amazing. Hopefully Zinny sees this and realizes Ridgey did that out of embarrassment and not ego. His clear respect for Ric gives me the eyebrow raising impression of how much Ric is actually respected amongst the boys. Even with the digs Ric receives. This episode was an eyeopener for me as a big Sportcafe fan. And it was awesome. Best SC Pod. 🙏🙏
This episode was 🔥🔥 good to have them together and just shooting the breeze and that classic banter is still the same to this day. Chur Chur to this one team
Incredible! It was everything i wanted it to be and more! PLEASE have this same lineup on again. Having FIVE people converse at once is usually a recipe for disaster but i couldn't get over everyone's ability to give way to the other while building an excellent conversation. Mathew seems to have done a lot of work on himself, i've never liked him as much as i did here. Can someone PLEASE release all the 'Mathew & Marc's Rocky Road To...' Episodes.
This is the first podcast i ever watched beginning to end. Ridgey Macca JK and Lee, fuckin magic! Chur brothers!! Awesome. Loved it, I could listen to you fullaz all day.
THIS IS WHAT ITS ABOUT! I absolutely loved it!!! MAN I WISH YOU WENT LONGER TEAM! ❤ BRINGS SO MUCH MEMORIES AND JUST MADE ME REALISE HOW HARDER WE ARE BACK IN THE DAY! LOL
JK's wardrobe is impeccable Love the content especially from these players more legends on the couch lads Love to Rick and Leigh playing the mediator in the room mad respect sir a legend
Great session... Ellis was about to talk about Block Carter!.. wish he had not been interrupted.. Followed Mark to Oz twice with the Warrs.. and many other games in Penrose.. top man. But my goodness he was physically huge compared to others !... ha.. five months later and 10kgs lighter still big in League terms.... fine man and great 7 in rugby..... lucky to have watched club footy with him and M Jones.... last 15 minutes only two players duelling it out .. and not many could hang with the iceman...
I think Leigh and Ric chimed in perfectly, kudos to them both! The three Rugby/League Stars had the most in-house stories to tell but they, L and R, also had well timed banter and disruption. The whole poddy's a blast from the past, the younger years to the present, just brilliant. In 12 years time we'll be watching this again, all on hologram (on a 0.001nm chip.) Bless you Ric and the Crew, go you good thing.
The Two Goats of NZ Television, Ridgey and Macca. These two's antics would have been too wild for any other country to make prime time TV. Kiwi sporting/TV legends 🏉 📺🤙🏽
I read about an injustice that happened to Matthew Ridge as a teenager . I now understand why he is such a driven man . Ridge was a bloody good rugby and league player in his day
Absolute gold seeing these guy's together again!💯🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
so much fun
This whole podcast had everything us males in nz should be doing more of with our friends, talking about old stories, having laughs but also chatting about anxiety/depression . Conversations like this is a must for us.

Yes. The way he would organize the team from fullback was invaluable. Did the same for the warriors and kiwis.
Yeah mate, Ridge was one of the most solid performers for manly, wahs and kiwis...
As a kiwi living in Dallas, Texas now days and having grown up watching JK, Ridge'y and Marc Ellis in union and league this podcast I stumble across was sick!!
Please make part 2 we need more 👌

Watching from aussie reminds me of my late teens early twenties, greatest show ever. Maca and ridgie what a combo and lets not forget Sir JK
So how come Ridgie and Macca don't get to call "Sir"
Next time you talk about uplifting videos that bring joy, mention this episode. You've brought a lot of joy to a lot of people with this one.
