I think the cultist killed the older brother so she killed him and snapped his spear, and owlbear would rather eat their own kind than let them go to waste or be eaten by other species.
IMPORTANT WARNING: When the Owlbear visits your camp, DO NOT SELECT the "You're nothing but trouble" dialogue option. It happens on his 2nd or third visit. It looks like a cute, playful teasing dialogue option and the Owlbear Cub even responds in a cute playful way....but you'll never see him again. It's a rejection dialogue.
Will he come back if I failed a medicine check to heal his wounds? I didn't know that quicksaving often was a good idea and I got I think a Nat 1 on my medicine check as I tried to heal the wound. That was a few long rests ago and I'm worried he won't come back.
I found out, EVEN If you kill the mother all you need to do is meet him at the goblin camp. Join or kill them all DOESNT matter🤷🏽♂️ talk to the lil guy give him your scent and after a day or 2 he’ll visit
When i killed the mother and found him at the Goblin camp he was understandably angry. The options only seemed to be fight him or turn him on the goblins... what did i miss?
@@alexjones707you can talk to a goblin that is running a race ring with the owl bearcub you have to beat the race the cub will like you again pass a roll/speech check against the goblin and you can convince them to let you have him then 1-2 days he’ll be at the camp
I killes the mama by accident after first backing off, because I’m a dumbass. The cutscene after was my biggest wtf, ever. Turned from crying for the cub to be horrified when it ate the mother 😅 but I had no trouble adopting it from the goblin camp after I killed the goblins 👌

Did the same. The cub came to my camp anyways, what was kind of stupid, because I just left him and his mom alive and well, no goblins around anymore. He still has the lines about the goblin camp.

For those that missed the cub. In my play thru, I had cleared the goblin camp and never noticed if the owl cub was there until much later into act 1. Luckily I came across owl bear cave and saw both the mother and the cub. Later afterwards once I long rested in act 2, the cub found its way to my camp. And now their part of our little family. Hope this helps anyone who's worried they missed out.
I really wanna see that fight of the goblins taking on an owlbear, I’m sure they’d win number wise, but I bet she’d kill several of them first. XD Way too many goblins there it looks like, to be able to have survived an owlbear.
Fun fact, you can adopt the Baby Owl Bear, if yiu meet them after wiping out all the goblins and made it to the underdark. The cub will eventually make their way to your camp.
Did you know that you can still adopt the owl bear even if you kill the mom? The owl bear cub randomly popped up at our camp the same night we killed the mom. Our Druid communicated with it and now it chills with us 😊
So . . . If you kill all the goblins first and find the cave after . . . You can kill the mother, then interact with the cub and take a long rest inside the cave . . . Do this until you recruit the cub. Use speak with animals potion or cantrip. Will make the interaction easier. Save vefore hand of course. Scent and heal are your dialog help hints.
you can also tell the goblin lady that you think the game is cruel, leave the convo, and then go talk to the cub while the other goblin is chasing him around. he’ll tell you that all of the goblins need to die (i only killed the leaders and the goblins outside and he came anyway) and that he’ll show up once it’s done. take some long rests and he’ll have his little cutscenes.
Yeah this video isn’t clear on the game mechanics or how it’s unlocked as getting the cub. Sure it’s fun cool story to make into a video but the goblins aren’t the same goblins, you could avoid the goblins or kill them, just like you can kill the mother or not, just make sure you make contact with the cub once before the camp scene.

Started playing a Bard last night on ps5, first play through, gorgeous game. The fact you can play music for crowds is ten oit of ten, and they tip you!!! Amazing lol
Oh WOW your video just made my day. Here's why. I thought I was responsible for the death of the momma owlbear. I spoke to the absolutists, near the cave, and convinced them, I don't know why, to go confront the owlbear they had seen earlier. I thought they would get killed by the owlbear and they did. I simply wanted to take the valuable item at the back of the cave and I did. I didn't want to kill the owlbears, so I left them alone and fled the combat encounter because of the absolutists. I then took care of the Goblins in the camp without speaking to them first. So the owlbear cub just appeared in my camp, after a while. And I had assumed that the game had forced the death of the mother owlbear, because I started the encounter where she killed the absolutists. So I've basically played the ENTIRE game, thinking I was responsible for her death. I'm so relieved to hear that my character had nothing to do with, and it was the goblins.
I summoned the 3 ogres in the battle at the main square (where the chicken game is), and they attacked the owlbear cub also beside the goblins. Same happened in Grymforge with the deep gnomes too.
I did the same thing. The ogres were attacking the cub so I used a non-lethal attack to knock the cub out, but I think the game is treating it like I killed it since I haven't seen the cub since. I haven't used the horn to summon the ogres ever again because they aggro EVERYONE not just the hostiles.
Fun fact - if you animal speech with the mum - Back away and - walk near her again so she attacks you you can kill her. - Then animal talk with the baby - you can convince it to join you without it going to the goblin camp.
I accidentally aggroed the mother sneaking around her. Goblin camp was already wiped out. He randomly showed up at the camp hungry, asking for food. Again, with an injury on his paw that needed tending. After that, he became a mainstay.

I saw the cub in the camp, Convinced the cub to attack the goblins, we joined forces and slaughtered the camp. Only downside was my goblin band had to be sacrificed.
If you kill the owlbear but not the cub it will do something gross (won't spoil). Later you will still find it at the goblin camp. You want to loot Owlbear mom because she has the head of a broken spear you can combine with the one you looted at the gate.
I had done the owl bear cave, killed the cubs mother, went and defeated the goblin triarchy, and was on my way to just clear out the rest of the fodder goblins and ogres in the front, when I noticed the owl bear cub attacking me along with the goblins. I had not seen the cub prior so I assumed they had found him in the cave and tamed him. Needless to say he shared the same fate as the goblins that day. To this day, no idea what aggro’d him.
Despite that being one of the cutest things, there is always a tinge of fear of the owlbear cub. I have had bad experiences in the past with owlbear cubs
i would like to mention if anyone gets worried (bc i def was a bit ago) people have been saying it took 5-6 rests before the owl bear came to their camp
I actually passed the roll but still wanted to check the loot, which started the fight with the mom and the pup, i just ignored the pup and focused the mom. Then i talked to the pup, let him live, found him back in the goblin camp, let him escape and smell me, fed him in my camp, porposefully camped only in the first region after that cuz i was curios. AND I GOT HIM NOW, HES SO CUTE. i also re bought the egg i sold cuz i am curios to know if he will have a little brother. This hame is amazing
I actually killed the mother and still adopted the cub. I got it to back down, and after looking around at the cave I clicked her again to see if there was any respectful or just neutral interaction. She attacked, I killed her the baby chowed down on her innards after I let it smell me to show I wasn't gonna hurt it. It showed up to camp like 2 times during the night and the second time it stayed after I fed him.
I was deciding not to get this game mainly because you can just play real d&d, but now that I see you can adopt a dog and an owl bear and they become best friends, I might get this game.
I panicked so much when I got the long rest event with what sounded like the animals in pain, but you go to check on them and they're just cuddling up together as best friends
There's also an owlbear egg(kinda useless but worth some gold). You can take it, but ya gotta be fast and sneaky. I used an invisibility potion to steal it under the momma owlbears beak
I went through the goblin camp without killing them all the first time and I met the owl bears afterwards. When I found out they had the cub I went back to the camp and massacred the goblins just so I could adopt it.
careful: there's a bug where if you succeed in getting the owlbear to come to your camp, get the scratch being friends scene, THEN go back and kill the REST of the goblins, the owl bear cub will disappear for some reason
I killed the goblin camp first, found the owlbear cave from a small hole in a wall which I had to change into gaseous form to pass through, and the mum attacked me so I killed her. Then the cub ate the mum and found me at my camp next time I long rested.
Most of my friends in Massachusetts who have engineering degrees (graduating in the last few years) have moved back in with their parents WHILE WORKING in the fields their degrees are for. The cost of living is insanely high, student loans are horrible, and pay is not high enough to compensate. As an entry to mid-level engineer, you are living with multiple roomates, barely scraping by, or you are at home with the parents.

So be careful because if you have the cultists with you, they often target the cub, so he can die in the fight

I rescued the cub and told it to come to my camp, but it never did and now the dog is there by himself.
For me it took at least ten days for it to arrive at the camp after rescuing it from the Goblins. I had already given up on ever seeing it again.

You can still get the cub even if you kill the owlbear. The cub doesn't mind as long as you get him out of the Goblin Camp later.

That's a bug. It should come a second time being hurt and if you heal it it becomes more trustful. It should join your camp later on.
Karlach tried to pet it and it got spooked in my playthrough
If you keep the owlbear until Act 3 and have Dammon the armorer alive... he arms the owlbear and aids you in the final fight.

In my playthrough, scratch just dissapear and the owlbear is in mourning period..literally break my heart.

Out of all the tips tricks and builds, getting the cub was the easiest thing for me.
He's all grown up now and lives with me and Shadowheart.
you can all kill the owl bear mother, then leave the baby alive and the baby will also end up in the goblin encampment.
You can also murder the mum for xp and get the baby from the goblins and the game says you saved it. Learnt from a friend 😅
The one thing that frustrated me while playing BG3 is getting locked out of these quests😭

You can make goblins talk all you want it's not going to stop me from slaughtering them any less violently.
The two are adorable together. And you must get speak with animals.

Then i talked to the pup, let him live, found him back in the goblin camp, let him escape and smell me, fed him in my camp, porposefully camped only in the first region after that cuz i was curios. AND I GOT HIM NOW, HES SO CUTE. i also re bought the egg i sold cuz i am curios to know if he will have a little brother. This hame is amazing

I actually killed the mother and still adopted the cub. I got it to back down, and after looking around at the cave I clicked her again to see if there was any respectful or just neutral interaction. She attacked, I killed her the baby chowed down on her innards after I let it smell me to show I wasn't gonna hurt it. It showed up to camp like 2 times during the night and the second time it stayed after I fed him.
This is now my goal when I get this game
Another option, kill the mother and leave. Goblins take the cub. Kill the goblins, the cub joins you. Circle of life and all that.

I was deciding not to get this game mainly because you can just play real d&d, but now that I see you can adopt a dog and an owl bear and they become best friends, I might get this game.
If you’re forced to fight, you can knock her out (non lethal attack), and still adopt the cub
I panicked so much when I got the long rest event with what sounded like the animals in pain, but you go to check on them and they're just cuddling up together as best friends
If you fail the dice rolls and fight the mom, the owlbear cub still goes to the goblin camp
Later on you can get an achievement called "The reason you have two hands" if you pet them both at the same time

There's also an owlbear egg(kinda useless but worth some gold). You can take it, but ya gotta be fast and sneaky. I used an invisibility potion to steal it under the momma owlbears beak
I went through the goblin camp without killing them all the first time and I met the owl bears afterwards. When I found out they had the cub I went back to the camp and massacred the goblins just so I could adopt it.
careful: there's a bug where if you succeed in getting the owlbear to come to your camp, get the scratch being friends scene, THEN go back and kill the REST of the goblins, the owl bear cub will disappear for some reason
I killed the goblin camp first, found the owlbear cave from a small hole in a wall which I had to change into gaseous form to pass through, and the mum attacked me so I killed her. Then the cub ate the mum and found me at my camp next time I long rested.
Most of my friends in Massachusetts who have engineering degrees (graduating in the last few years) have moved back in with their parents WHILE WORKING in the fields their degrees are for. The cost of living is insanely high, student loans are horrible, and pay is not high enough to compensate. As an entry to mid-level engineer, you are living with multiple roomates, barely scraping by, or you are at home with the parents.

You can still adopt the Owlbear child even if you kill her, because the baby will eat her as food and then be chill.
We had already killed the goblins and strolled into the cave. Apparently that works too because the cub followed us home in act 2.
Not me killing the mother then finding the baby later on in the goblin camp and getting him anyway
Fun fact: "she was brutally murdered and the cub is left orphaned"
You can kill the owlbear. Just dont kill the pup, make sure you kill the mother first and dialog will come out asking whether to spare the cub
You can still adopt the owl ear cub if you kill the Owlbear adult, free xp for the grinders out there.
