You’ve really created a unique space to create and also have fun! Your aesthetic is really different from so many setups! I really love what you’ve done! Makes me want to have a retro setup of my own one day
I love this room! The wood paneling and the wooden tables are great! For some reason, nowadays every gaming room needs to be sterile and cold, with everything in white and unnatural purple LED lights. That may look kinda cool, but rooms like this are much more cozy.
@@teksyndicate yeah I have some Ikea shelves (Billy and the big 5 x 5 cubes, kalax or something) and im getting rid of them all. I may keep the Billy shelves for my omnibus and trades collection, but I'd rather get something better honestly. I'd like some great big, expensive, "American" shelving...built to last and look good too.
This is such a cool setup. I really like the wood paneling. I don't have any suggestions as far as improvements. If anything, it makes me want to really overhaul my own space.
Honestly, even just a video on Daggerfall alone in the style of your Morrowind vid would be awesome. Played the main quest for a solid month recently and it was some of the most fun I've ever had with an RPG in a long, long time.
I'm not sure exactly how I'd play it these days... Like I prefer mostly vanilla... but the temptation to add fancy lighting is there because of Daggerfall Unity. So, I'll have to think about it.
@@teksyndicate just run DFU in the default mode, with the proper settings for 'emulating' the original release. You know this of course - but perhaps your Morrowind fanboyism blinds you to the glorious light that is DFU.
@@teksyndicate Oh yeah, Unity is definitely the best way to play nowadays, if for no other reason than because it's stable and has a pretty decent modding scene behind it. There's a few really good ones like DREAM (remasters the visuals and audio but not in a way that betrays the original aesthetic), Warm Ashes (adds random encounters and events to the game to make fast travel more interesting), Meaner Monsters (buffs enemies to make the combat less trivial) and a more immersive fast travel mod that lets you see your character actually walk from one place to the next (fast-forwarded) if you choose to fast travel on foot. The UA-camr Zaric Zhakaron has done a few playthroughs with a modded-out DFU install and they're definitely worth watching to get some ideas for a playthrough imo.
never really was attached to the wood paneling until I saw this, it looks very cozy. to speak to the crt, i have a pvm that i never really use. my preferred way to retro game is with composite cables on my sony trinitron, the way the scanlines blend things kinda tricks your brain into adding more details. anything i dont like with composite / scanlines, i'm just using component with a scaler to my flat panel anyways.
The eclectic items really makes this a good space. The problem many retro gamers have is that they only fill their space with gaming items. So it makes it look like either a well organized game store or a ugly muesuem. You added plants, wood, books, and natural colored lighting (not RGB LEDS) to make your space look natural and consistent.
Surprised you don't have a PVM. I know they are super expensive and heavier than the TV you have. I really want to see one in action with my own eyes. For Retro gaming i've recently fell in love with my OLED. RetroArch with RetroAchievements with a nice filter, beautiful OLED colors, and HDR. So much fun and CRTs don't look anywhere as good. I could never get into scanlines, I was happy to see them go when I switched from my Viewsonic to an IPS back in the day.
I prefer 27" TVs because that's the size where the scanlines are still small and it looks great from 6-8 feet away... but a 27" PVM... ouch. As for OLED, they have done a lot to improve the blacks, but it still suffered from the same issues as LCD when it comes to fluidity... the CRT is still a much smoother experience.
@@teksyndicate Ya, I would have no idea how I would get a 27" PVM home. I've only seen 20". For OLED, have you tried the LG CX line? 120hz (doesnt matter for RetroArch). About 13ms input lag? It's my perfect computer monitor, just wish it had higher refresh rate.
i'm on youtube room setup binge, yours is the coziest i've seen! really tired seeing modern/minimalist/ikea/rgb stuff that looks like lifeless hotel lobby. imma gather some pallet wood to fill my wall!
You've got so many great games (and more importantly, boxes!) Super jealous! I'd absolutely be up for videos of the box contents. I'm 2 months into my game hording. I'm up to 600 so far, mostly made up of PS2 games. I'm giving it a break for a bit though as I've suddenly remembered that I'm actually broke af and can't be spending everything I have on games I likely won't even play. You know, I'd only recently realised the importance of CRTs and remembered that my mum still has our 34 inch Toshiba CRT from when I was a teenager. Did a bit of research on it and turns out it's one of the best for retro gaming. So once I hire a forklift, it'll be going into my gaming room.
Even better than a wii for emulating old consoles is a PC running CRT EmuDriver btw. Output from a crt emudriver pc is so crystal clear. Wii analog output is not as good believe it or not.
HEY YOU'RE FROM VERMONT? No wonder I dig your rig setup (and LegoS so much ;) ) It's harder than hell to be a retro enthusiast up here, it might take another 10 years before these woodchucks unload their CRTs (ok, ok, I have three... just not happy entirely with any of mine - greening or scratches or... damn... can't quite get it back together right, LOL). Cool insider peek!
@@teksyndicate Got it a few weeks ago - 19" Envision, 1600x1200 @ 75 hz - nearly unflawed condition (yes, tube too - it's still bright and clear). Has an 'overscan' too. $80. My offer to a local computer shop who recently learned (oops, it was me) that people still wanted old BUT GOOD CRTs. They were going to sell it online, but I walked in, offer $40 less... and they jumped, immediately. Great beast.
I knew I'd regret the day threw out my Daggerfall box along with Mechwarrior 2 and a few others. Cereal box packaging for PC games was the best.. nothing like the smell of a mid 1990's EB or Babbages with all the pc game boxes on glorious display, get a pc game at the mall and then to Auntie Annies for a pretzel.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 are my fav games. They are a lil dated control and texture wise and the environment might seem a little empty by todays standards.
