The Wildcat may not be one of my favorite roller coasters at Hershey Park due to how rough it was when I rode it in 2014, but The Wildcat brought me so many memories. It was there when I came the Hershey Park for the first time, I remember seeing this roller coaster and driving past it every time I come to Hershey PA whenever I visit Chocolate World. I am going to miss you Wildcat. Thanks for the memories.
I was devastated to learn of this ride's closure at my recent visit. One of my first roller coasters. The roughness was part of the fun, and I remember when it was even more intense (before the car upgrades).
That's GCIS thunderhead at dollywood is the same but i found myself getting on it over and over again,,,,,wooden coasters are not supposed to be smooth we are too used to all the steel coasters
Went to Hershey park yesterday for the first time in probably 10 years! I have always been a little scared of rollercoasters. However, yesterday I decided just to try some out!! I got on this one and it was for sure WILD! But it was so fun and would definitely do it again.
not trying to be shady but your videos are better than TPR's. i hate how he cuts the lift out and he won't shut up. your's include the ride from beginning to end.
When I went to Hershey Park for the first time I was on with my sister and we got stuck on it. This was like my first roller coaster in a longgggg time because I was scared to get on roller coasters and I was freaking out so bad. I was crying and praying and everything lol.
I remember riding this when I was little! I always forgot to breathe and my mom would have to remind me 😂 I remember looking at how it was build while I rode too. So cool.
i went on this coaster in 4th grade (im 20 now) and i dont remember if back then they had lap bars and seat belts or even what the safety is like now but back when i went, my seatbelt came undone halfway through and my mom had to hold me for the rest of the ride to keep me from flying out. when we got off we told the worker and he essentially said "oh sorry" before putting more people on. lol.
I know it has a lot of sentimental value is the first GCI, but it's just so darn rough. Wildcat is a good candidate for conversion into a smaller RMC hybrid that can round out Hersheypark's already diverse coaster lineup. They wouldn't be losing anything, since Lightning Racer and Comet are both airtime-packed woodies and are much smoother.
I can see why this coaster doesn't show up on any best wooden coasters lists. It's long but I like the traditional first drop which this one doesn't have. Okay, I checked the Comet video and see that's the more traditional wooden coaster. Does that mean this was built in answer to the Twister at Knoebel's or was it vice versa?
The Wildcat was named after the original Wildcat coaster that Hershey Park had in the 1920s. It was built to replicate the twisted wooden coasters of the 60's and 70's, which did include the Twister's original design. (Known then as Mister Twister, before it was abandoned and disrepaired) The twisted first drop is a GCI introduction to many of their coasters "designed to reduce chances of nausea". In addition, Wildcat was built first before the Twister, but Knoebels has always had preservation in mind with their two woodies, not competition.
Some enthusiasts say that this ride should be RMC'd, but the problem with that is they would be effectively removing the original GCI. For historic value, maybe GCI should retrack it, but that wouldn't solve the problem with the layout.
If I were Hersheypark, is bring in GCI to retrack it and reprofile the two airtime hills to make them less drawn out. That would really enhance the airtime. I'd make the second one that goes into the left turn towardz the final helix a double down. I think there's enough room since that's the most drawn out and slow hill on the ride and it would really enhance the experience. Its never going to be a modern GCI like Mystic Timbers and heck, it may not even have the airtime of Lightning Racer, but it's still a good ride and had a unique layout.
I didn't think it was THAT much rougher than lightning racer. Only one very significant jolt to the pelvis near the end on a part of the track that didn't seem like it should be that rough. If they smoothed that out it's actually a really good ride.
Definitely, people exaggerate how rough this coaster is. This year it's actually running as well as it ever has! I rode it much earlier in its life and it was significantly rougher. Hershey has smoothed it out over the years. I think if they reprofiled the two airtime hills so they aren't so drawn out, it would make the ride REALLY good since it would throw you out of your seat more. Compared to Lightning Racer though, this coaster definitely maintains it's speed more throughout the ride and doesn't have as stark of a difference with how fast it runs when the trains are full vs empty. I've noticed a significant difference on Lightning Racer with that, especially towards the end of the ride.
Elly Stumpf Actually, I have been on both Wildcat and SooperDooperLooper and there is a huge difference in experience even though one is older than the other. On Wildcat, it was so rough that after the ride was over, I felt like I have just violently been thrown around and it hurt. On SooperDooperLooper, nothing was rough or painful whatsoever and I actually enjoyed it.
