The "roar" you hear is definitely something to admire. I've loved the coaster ever since I rode it for the first time when I was in 5th grade. It's a beautiful ride!
This coaster is so underrated !!!! It's so smooth and exhilarating I never wanted to get off. Turned right back around and got in line all over again it was so much fun.
@@Aatrains512 Words are insufficient in describing how late I am lmfao but loudest B&M roar I have to say is Green Lantern at Six Flags Great Adventure though this is a strong runner up.
For those that have never been to Hershey, this coaster is LOUD! I've asked before, and I think the reason why is hollow track, but seriously, it can really interrupt your lunch if you choose to eat in Comet Hollow...every few minutes.
***** Great Bear is extremely loud though. I understand B&M's naturally roar unless their supports are filled with sand, but Great Bear is the loudest B&M I have ever heard. I don't know if it has to do with where its situated in the park or something but its roar is much louder than most other B&M's. The only other one I can think of that is close is Incredible Hulk and its still about 10 decibels quieter.
AirtimeAddict I totally agree it's so underrated ! It's rides so smooth thru all the twits n turns, I actually like the roar sound it adds to the excitement of the ride and gives me chills when I heard it going by walking thru the park. It's layout is really cool too. Awesomeness
Such a unique B&M inverted coaster! Not like a standard B&M at all! Plus those supports at the end of the ride really give a cool near-miss effect when going through the straight section and the corkscrew.
Sure, it’s not the best invert when your riding, but there is zero debate that it’s the best invert to watch. Add so much to the hollow section atmosphere
I went on the great bear with my friend! It’s so fun! The line is usually really long and the ride is really short, but besides that the great bear is probably one of my favorite rides in Hershey park👍👍
The pronounced roar from this coaster is asserted to come from the unique foundations and supports required to keep then ride completely out of the creek, as the township would not allow supports in the creek itself.
Yes, but only the first time you ride it. I suggest riding in the middle area your first time and closing your eyes on the loops and or twists , then try the front other times!
1:27 just throws your teeth out of your head. I couldn't imagine being on that. I went on the Comet there a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely terrifying.
A few years back our grade end t to Hershey park at the end of the year and we saw this ride while we were on the skyride and the log jammer and at one point my friend was like I kind of want to go on it. We saw him as the man with no fear afterwards
Ooh okay so this is the same type of coaster as the BANSHEE from Kings Island near me. BANSHEE was one of my favorites so I'd definitely love this one.
Yes but Banshee is a much newer invert. Great Bear was built in 1998 and you can tell by the tighter elements it has compared to the larger ones Banshee has. Definitely put Great Bear on your list, it's one of the company's most unique invert coasters and one of the best coasters at Hersheypark!
I rode it yesterday. Got off and kept asking if I was really alive. I was so scared. I hate when my feet hang off of rides. Plus it was so loud. Ugh lol
This was the first inverted coaster in the state of Pennsylvania, and the complications of this ride are the primary reason why B&M hasn't built anything new for the park since.
/|BrendTr0n|\ Trust me, if HersheyPark wants another B&M coaster and they have the money. I'm sure they will be more than happy to manufacture a coaster for them.
Dragon Challenge at Harry Potter World at Universal in Orlando is a B&M but I don't remember if it roared. Why is there a medal detector at the entrance to the Dragon Challenge?? I went on it when I was at Universal for spring break and i thought it was weird
Wonder why alpengeist at BGW doesn't roar like that. Would certainly fit the theme that's for sure! Unless I just never noticed it. Raptor at cedar point roars really loud too.
It's probably because the supports are filled with sand. In order to muffle the sound on a lot of these inverts, the supports are filled with sand. Great Bear's are not and as a result it makes a loud roaring noise almost like a bear that can be heard across the park.
Yeah that's what I've heard before. Pretty interesting. The roar would fit perfectly to alpengeist's snow monster theme but I've always found it to be pretty quiet for the most part. Maybe they thought it would annoy the guests lol
Lol, me neither. I remember reading it somewhere a long time ago. It could also be that Alpengeist uses really soft polyurethane wheels and Great Bear uses hard nylon wheels.
I wouldn't consider this a scary ride, it's a lot of fun and has a unique layout. The roar really adds to the ride too. I would say give it a shot! There's definitely scarier rides in the park.
when I went on this ride I was crying, I did not want to go, the guy told me I would like it and when I went on u stoped crying didnt even screamed I liked it so much
I have to saw the great bear is one of my fav coasters,it's pretty unique and i love the part when it swoops down above the water then right into a barrel roll
Hershey park should update great bear, the should give the ride the new banshee trains, and repainted the track, kinda like what universal is doing to the hulk
It really doesn't need new trains, I actually like the older trains as do a lot of people. A paint job always helps a coaster look fresh, although this ride's track still looks pretty good for being 23 years old.
+NewYorkCity623RBLX also, that's just how loud b&m coasters are. It's louder than normal b&m's because the sound echo on the surrounding areas of the park since it's so compact. Talon at Dorney had noise complaints from the residential area, the filled the field talon was in with sand to absorb some of the vibration and sound. That's why talon is extremely quiet
The "roar" you hear is definitely something to admire. I've loved the coaster ever since I rode it for the first time when I was in 5th grade. It's a beautiful ride!
Same
I 1st rode this in 4th grade and I never will regret me saying I wanna go on this
Fun fact, its because they purposefully left the supports hollow inside instead of filling them with sand, it was done on purpose for it to be loud
Now THAT'S a B&M roar!! That looks like one hell of a zero-g roll too!
Oh trust me that G-Roll is the best inversion ever! It really whips you lol
i rode it and after the zero-g roll my head shook
Surprisingly forceful for the height, that corkscrew right after it is extremely forceful, it felt like the ride would fall off lol.
I love the zero-g roll on this one!
This coaster is so underrated !!!! It's so smooth and exhilarating I never wanted to get off. Turned right back around and got in line all over again it was so much fun.
bergercookie not to mention the LOUDEST B&M roar ever

At 4:53 is honestly the best shot ever. You have the Great Bear on its corkscrew loop and in the background, Storm Runner on top of the hill
Skyrush not stormeunner:)

FYI - The loud "roar" is because the supports are hollow, not the track.
Hence the name The Great Bear. Haha, you've never been to Kings Island, and try standing next to Diamondback

Kumba is loud too. But Montu isn't. TWIST!!!

Katelyn Beahm agreed !!!! So much fun and so smooth !!!
I love this ride the way it flys over the water and around the park.
I have been on Great bear and the roar from the ride it actually supposed to do that because it makes it seem like the ride is more thrilling.
No, it's actually because the track is more hollow. I talked to the person who worked the ride when I was there yesterday
I love how the track is it’s like your dangling in mid air myself and friends of mine rode this before we left the park.
I love looking at this ride, so graceful!
Sébastien S. Robert it's smooth as silk to ride too . It's a really great coaster
