DIY universal dowel jig

  • I make this universal doweling jig. It is based on the well known Festool Domino and other biscuit or dowel jointers. These tools however are very expensive, but the same task can be achieved with a jig like this and a simple hand drill. That's why I, jokingly, call this dowel jig 'the domino killer'
    I have used the jig several times now and I have had great succes, it really makes construction with dowels a lot easier than any other jig I have used in the past.
    This is my first version and I allready have several improvements in mind: *Anti-slip surface on the plate *metal sleeve in the guide block *adjustable ruler on this wooden version because of imprecise construction. *A less bulky, metal construction would be preferable. *Guide block with 2 guides for 2 dowels at 1 mark.
    Aditional info:
    *I made several interchangeable guide blocks to accomodate different drill sizes.
    Watch this improvement here:
    • Improving My Universal...
    *I have marked a 'full' ruler on either side of the centerline of the plexi part. This way you could slide the jig in controlled increments so you can create a mortise instead of a single dowel hole.
    I made this jig on my own, completely unaware of Mirock's Dowel jig. Go check his video: • Mirock Doweller

    What about angular holes? Straight holes are easy. Show angular dowels

      Absolutely just as easy! I have no projects in mind that require them at the moment, but when i do I'll show it in use for sure! Thanks for watching.

    Its mafell dd 40 killer, not festool.

      @RobinCoomans  7 років тому +1

      Yes I know.. it's just a dowel jig really... but the festool is better known that's why I named it that. I didn't show it, but I can easily make mortises with this jig by drilling a series of overlapping holes, they need a bit of clean up though. Thanks for watching!
