Halloween is a 1978 American independent horror film directed, produced, and scored by John Carpenter, co-written with Debra Hill, and starring Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis in her film debut. The film is set in the fictional midwestern town of Haddonfield, Illinois. On Halloween, six year old Michael Myers murders his older sister by stabbing her with a kitchen knife. Fifteen years later, he escapes from a psychiatric hospital, returns home, and stalks teenager Laurie Strode and her friends. Michael's psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis suspects Michael's intentions, and follows him to Haddonfield to try to prevent him from killing.
The limited budget also dictated the filming location and time schedule. Halloween was filmed in 21 days in the spring of 1978 in South Pasadena, California and Sierra Madre, California (cemetery).
An abandoned house owned by a church stood in as the Myers house. Two homes on Orange Grove Avenue (near Sunset Boulevard) in Hollywood were used for the film's climax. The crew had difficulty finding pumpkins in the spring, and artificial fall leaves had to be reused for multiple scenes.
Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) is sometimes given the distinction of also starting the slasher craze and preceding Halloween in originating the stylistic techniques as well as the usual plot devices. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, released five years prior to Halloween, has several things in common with the film: a group of free-spirited teenagers falling into the clutches of a sadistic, weapon-wielding masked villain ( Leatherface ) with a lone heroine. The film has also gone onto significantly influence the horror genre, much like Halloween.
Several subsequent films with similar stylistic elements and themes became popular with audiences, including Friday the 13th, and later, A Nightmare on Elm Street .
You know what fascinates me? The TREES! As everything around the trees are destroyed and forgotten we have these exact same trees; simply more mature and they act as landmarks! Amazing
me too!! in every video, specially in rambo
Agreed
Right. It´s funny to see them having grown in breadth instead of height. Like most people when they get older.
What kind of trees are those when 3 girls are walking home drone school? Beautiful!
Halloween one of the greatest horror movies ever made!
Richard Bain For sure!
You did a fine job of not only filming the original scene but the same shot angles and lighting most times AND split shots so it is easier to compare.
Bravo to you Herve Attia! Excellent!
That being said they just don't make movies like they used to I've seen plenty of horror movies that are more current but none match those from the mid 70's-mid 80s.
I love how this guy does his films....Great work
Excellent Tribute To Halloween 1978....Hopefully One Day I Can Sit Where Jamie Lee Curtis Sits While Waiting For Her Friend To Pick Her Up.
the part with the elementary school, that same school is right behind my grandma and grandpa's old house in Alhambra California. my cousin use to go to that school.
Best video on the original film locations I have ever seen. Its really put together so well. Thanks!
went to LA on vacation last month - you KNOW I had to go to these sights! Took lots of pictures. All very easy to find - the Pasadena locations are within minutes of each other, walking. The Hollywood houses used in the film are about a minute away from the original Nightmare on Elm Street house too, so you gotta see that if looking for the Halloween houses. The owners of Jamie Lee's house are into it, they have a little tribute plaque on their porch, and have a pumpkin prop that you can borrow to take your picture where she sat.
thats so cool the owners are cool about the film. But, with all the real life serial killers that have terrorized California in the past century, I think it would make me to uneasy to live in that house.
Eddie Galon haha silly boy
The level of detail to preserve the past and present together and the mixing of the two together makes this a historical landmark for future generations. I worry that this may change dramatically someday but now we have the archives to enjoy.
Mr. Attia ,.........your work brings me great joy......please keep em' coming. (p.s.,... your work is meticulous, finely detailed and frankly just superbly done for this medium,.... I've not seen anything, anywhere, that's come close to the workmanship you exhibit.) Thank you again. 👍. (p.s.,...I just noticed...now,...the great distance loomis & the other are,..regarding their vehicle after just exiting).
Can’t believe how similar it still looks. Really amazing.
Fantastic! I love these videos. Very nice job lining up your "new" video to match the "old", makes it easy to see how much has changed and how much has stayed the same. Keep it up!!
Thanks for posting this sir.... I've always loved the Halloween scenario the houses and green streets!!!! Great job!!!
Just finished watching this for the first time. Wow, this is phenomenal. You did a fabulous job with this. So well done and thorough, I will watch it again. One of the best before and after videos ever..Anymore like this???
very cool. Thks for taking the time to make this vid for film buffs. A similar vid I found excellent retraces locations from A Clockwork Orange.
Mt Attia does the the finest videos of this type on youtube as far as I am concerned. Bless.
Just found a few of these videos. Great work. Exactly what I was searching for! Love how you have the actual movie up compared to what it looks like now a days. Very cool stuff
BRILLIANT!!! I was noticing the trees' growth over the years too. Remarkable! I love this!!!
Excellent video guys! I live here and we’re at the filming locations every Halloween, you nailed it well done. 🎃
i live 12 miles from the pasadena locations.not much has changed since 78.
drakejdf it looks alot busier than it did in 78
These are so well done.
You know as i was watching the kid meeting Micheal scene and then the present with the fencing and bars around the school. I remember the 70's and 80's when there were no fencing or bars at schools for example our school at Henderson Elementary was an open school now I've seen it and it's closed up with bars and fencing to the front entrance to the office. I guess just goes to show how much the times have change from the laid back 70's and 80's to the unpredictability of the times we live now with covid19 to the unrest of the riots and dismay tearing up our country. God how I miss the 70's and 80's. I'm not a white either I'm a Mexican American deplorable former US Navy Radioman Petty Officer 86-96.
I don't know what it is about this movie that grips me. Maybe it's because of the time period in my life when I first saw it, I was 13 years old. It scared the crap out of me. I always loved horror. I was big into creature feature but this movie topped it. The Midwest feel to it also holds me to this timeless classic. I can't count how many times I've seen this.
same with me Roger. I was ten and my older sister and her friend got me and my friend in to see it. Even though I don't feel like others about the film itself (think it's really just a lame horror film), I do share your nostalgia, and I'm a fan of John Carpenter's other films especially Starman and The Thing. Just spotted for the first time watching this film on cable today, that one of the kids are watching the original The Thing on t.v.
It’s a damn shame, that people can’t make good horror movies today, the 70’s & 80’s were the best for the genre, today’s Hollywood just plain sucks and is to predictable
I was 12 years old. I found myself running home as fast as I could down streets at nighttime after visiting friends because I was so spooked after seeing this movie.
What an excellent job! Congrats!
This is awesome!! Thank you for sharing
Great camera work. Love the presentation.

It's Awesome to see the locations after all these years & how they have changed etc. I always loved the the streets & especially the Trees on some of the scenes. They just looked very creepy. Thanks John Carpenter for a GREAT MOVIE! \m/
once again ,amazing. Nice that the folks so often let you in. Like 4;45 very subtle and clever. Whenever I am rained off work I sit and watch your videos.. they are kind of eerie (sorry if the spelling is wrong) but draw the viewer in...... Jaws would be a good one perhaps a mixture from all 3? ...thanks for your great work and bringing back memories.
Just watched it at Midnight (Halloween Eve) it's a tradition..Great stuff thanks for posting. Happy Halloween 2020 🎃

Nice video, nice job 👍
These videos are amazing.
I love the trees. They're like proof
This is good stuff! Love it!
Lived in So Pasadena during that time. Many shows and movies filmed in that area. Was class of 80' at SPHS. The Halloween House was vacant at the time, I recall and was a favorite party destination.
Today's movies are all blue screen computer graphics so very few locations. This was awesome thanks for posting.

Herve Attia Great job! All the videos you've made are amazing! Wish more people knew of your channel... The amount of work that you've put into making these videos hasn't gone unnoticed. Job well done, sir!
I'm a fan of the halloween movies (except the number 3) but where Michael Myers here, I'm here ;)
Just awesome the work You do to do it, it's fascinating where near 40 years after the things are changed, and other not, BRILLIANT, very good work Herve.
P.s. Herve his the first name of My beloved father died in '01/88.
Excellent! Thank you so much, sir. So great to see the "then" as compared to the "now". Haunting.
Just an awesome video, Halloween is my favourite film franchise ever (yes even the crap ones) so I just loved this!
Do these people who's houses you filmed know about the famous history behind their houses? Before you filled them in? Once again, great work, thanks. Tom
hallq
Very cool!!
Frkin Fantastic!!!!
That's so cool there actually at the Myers house that's so cool
He came home. Chills down my spine
very cool buddy....great video...
What editing software do you use to edit your videos? They come out amazing!
I liked them all !
good video!!
Like that you shot the one house that's had an addition since filming, with the addition in darkness - cool. The same with the house that's been moved since filming. These California houses are much like Debra Hill's real house in Haddonfield. - Brian McFadden, author "The Real Woman Behind Halloween," Debra Hill.
Awesome!!! Cheers
Good point! Cheers.
Nice as alway your filming locations movies. When do you create Jaws ?
The school scene was filmed at Garfield school in Alhambra, I went there when I was a kid
The only you tuber to get INSIDE the house!!!!!
Michealllllll myèeeeersss love it
I just uploaded a Vlog about the Halloween movie so this was fun to watch.
Awesome shit dude
My area has tons of movies being filmed at all times of the year and during all hours. It's kind of neat but a pain in the ass at the same time. I do like when it's a horror movie though. That's an exception lol.
Nancy Loomis was the star of that film.
She carried it until her screen death.
She's in her 70's and knocks spots off Jamie Lee Curtis.
How do you find the locations? Amazing!!
Can do the same for part 2?
Herve, you should do maybe like Encino Man or some Elvis's biggest films. Just an idea. Great work though, appreciate your work.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁
Herve, please do Raising Arizona.
When you accept a check for letting them film a movie in your house, your neighborhood or what ever private location that they want...you will forever have to deal with people visiting your place at all hours of the night. People like me lol.
id imagine they would know, some other people might tell them if they dont know, people around the neighbourhood who've seen the movies. Would be kinda creepy if they didnt know and then they see the movie and go "oh shit thats my house!" but the chances of them knowing already id say are quite high.
Locations are so quiet
😍😍😍😍😍
Brilliant Video give it 5 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
Nick Castle As Michael Myers
Jamie Lee Curtis As Laurie Storde Halloween 1
Halloween 2 the full movie in 1981
