My mom used to tell me that the oil from the nut was used as a treatment for canker sores or mouth sores. Back in the day, we couldn't afford to buy medicine. she always told us that the land provides, food, shelter, clothing, resources and medicinal purposes. If you take care of the land, the land will take care of you.
Aloha I think i learned its the white sap that come froms the area on the nut where it was originally held up by its stem. Once stem is removed, the sap is revealed and provided as medicine for those affected by any mouth sores eg thrush, canker, etc. One need only apply onto sore.
Women young & old of the "Friendly Isles" chew it into a gulf-ball size paste like consistency and has been utilized as bathing soap for the body for centuries to this day.
