PTX has this superb emotional intelligence that informs everything they do. It plays out in their song choices and arrangements, as you've noted, and also in how they use dynamics.

The great thing about this rabbit hole is the variety of material available especially when you include the side projects and collabs that individual members have (Scott and Mitch as Superfruit doing pop and dance originals, Kirstin's solo pop EP, Kevin "KO" Olusola celloboxing originals and looping covers, as well as Avi's original solo work). Next on your journey you should check out their iconic cover of 'Imagine', but I would also highly recommend their '2016 Live Popspring Performance' highlighting their concert renditions of this medley along with three originals.

I'm old and grew up as a young child singing the Jackson 5 songs. Then when Micheal went out on his own of course I kept following him. I remember I loved the song Ben and used to play it all the time. My Mom said that's a sweet song, is that about his brother? I said no, it's about a rat! The look on her face was priceless. **THERE ARE LITERALLY NO WORDS IN MY ENGLISH VOCABULARY, THAT CAN DESCRIBE THIS GROUP!!!** ❣ I have also come to the conclusion, that Mitch is an Alien, from the planet of WTF 🙃 😊🙃 I truly love how Pentatonix will put their own spin on a song, yet still manage to keep the integrity & respect the original artist. I believe Michael Jackson would be proud ❣❣❣ And to answer your question for us Dave, I started enjoying Michael Jackson, with the Jackson 5, when I heard their song, ABC, and fell in love with him, when I heard him sing his song Ben 😊

Eargasim is right! You are right.... MJ is iconic. I also wish they would do some of these songs in full, but when they do it this way, they don't have to worry about the rights. I was a fan from the get - go when he was part of the Jackson Five. Love your chair dancing. It is hard for them to find songs that will flow naturally into other songs. What amazes me, is that they do this in one take. I've seen them do it live, as well. It's this good. There is another reactor who does 4 PTX songs at a time. Thank you!

I'm 59 and, like others have said, Michael Jackson's music has always been a part of my life, weaving in and out of it as I grew up and as Michael grew as an artist. The songs I remember best from my childhood are The Jackson 5's "ABC" and "Ben." My current pet hamster is named Ben because of this song. Then when I was a teenager, we were all listening to Off the Wall. The song from that album that really hit me was "She's Out of My Life." Then there was Thriller, and I didn't know a single one of my friends who didn't own that album. A group of my workmates and I gathered together and had a watch party for the premiere of the Thriller video on TV in 1983. Man, such great memories.

I am 59 and my memories are similar to yours…Jackson 5 “ABC” and “Ben” were the first I remember. I think “Ben” was the theme song for some movie that terrified me (about killer rats). My parents would never have let me watch it, so I probably snuck in while my older brother was watching it on TV when my parents were out. Natural consequences I guess since I remember it 50 years later! 😁

to see them do this song live, watch the Pop Spring Concert - it's about 15 mins long, has this and 3 originals - it's professionally recorded, not fan cam, so you can really see how good they are live. It's about a 2016 vintage, and as I believe, their concert preformances have become even better! Another live recent concert was Christmas Under the Stars, check out the Carol of the Bells in particular. Mitch (does he breathe?), is my fav in that one! I understand. Quite a few reactors went straight through Avi Kaplan's newest record's 11 songs that came out at the end of May and now have to wait at least a year for new music from him. They did the same thing with Pentatonix record The Lucky Ones when it came out. Fortunately Pentatonix has quite a few more years of performances but you can still rush through pretty quick. Let's see - Daftpunk, Bohemian Rhapsody, Jolene with Dolly Parton, Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies, Imagine, and Hallelujah are the biggest and takes you through all their grammy awards. Then choose what you like and have fun.
When you get to Avi's solo work he's on about the 3rd phase of his songwriting. Very different sound to each.
Kirstin Maldonado has the 1 E.P. out under just her first name. Mitch recently did one called Messer. Kevin does primarily instrumental work from time to time on his channel. Don't miss his original Renegade.
Scott seems to do his originals through Pentatonix and I haven't seen Matt's yet.

Fortunately, I was a Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 fan from the beginning! Yes, I used to watch Jackson 5 cartoons on Sat morning as well. I say fortunately because just look at all the GREAT music I grew up listening to and the concerts I was able to attend! (Unfortunately, because my 59 year old bones sing loudly and daily!) Anyway, Michael, may he continue resting in power, was one of the master entertainers that come around rarely and are gone way too soon. I put Freddie Mercury in the same category. (Karen Carpenter's voice and female drumming skills fall into the same beautiful music silenced way too soon category) I'm rambling way too much about legends lost during my lifetime alone so sad. Geez, we'd be here all day Janis Joplin, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix Elvis, John Lennon etc! Way more than I like to think about.
On a lighter note, Pentatonix! Yes! Ridiculously talented young folks and I look forward to hearing MUCH more from them! Love your channel and sorry for rambling. 👍❤

I was a kid that loved creepy stuff. I remember having the Thriller LP, and the video is still one of the most iconic short films ever. If you want a fun MJ tribute, you should check out the Alien Ant Farm cover of Smooth Criminal. The video is chock full of MJ easter eggs. (And Smooth Criminal is just one of those perfect songs, IMHO)

Just checking out your PTX/Superfruit reactions from a year ago or more. You got me on the first reaction to Rise. When did I begin listening to Michael? I recall as a young child my mom had an entire Motown set of about about 5 records volumes 1 -5 that had all kinds of artists. Remember I'll be there , ABC and Rockin Robin. I was about 6 or 7 years old. 8 tracks were popular at that time. Then cassettes became popular. I recorded the entire Motown collection on cassettes for the car. That became a thing. Buy the record and record it on cassettes for the car. So then Off the Wall and Don't stop Til You Get Enough we're two of my favorites but when. The thriller album hit the music shops I bought that in with my baby sitting money. It was my very own first album I had ever purchased myself. I played it over and over and over. Do you still dj oa PTX/Superfruit reactions? If so have you reacted to Can't hold Us, problem ( especially the 3 ffm live version) and Aha Singapore Star Vista perfrimanc eir super fruits hip hop goes Broadway 1ans 2 . I've looked but nothing. They are my favorite because Mitch absolutely goes off in aha and I love to hear them wrap. He sounds just like Iggy in problem . I think you would really enjoy those particular ones.

This one confuses me. All 5 members sing Michael Jackson. Does this say Michael is GOAT, or that Pentatonix is GOAT??? Great Reaction! 😕😁😎

I heard just about all of his songs but the one that hit was Pyt and man in the mirror and for Pentatonix was can't hold us

I've never liked Michael Jackson. I've heard a few covers that weren't bad, but that's it. I'm twenty eight, if that relevant.
