      @@MichaelSabo nahh there's no way it caused the failure. I haven't finished the video yet but if there's no scores in the cylinder walls or on piston skirts or in the bearings then there's zero evidence that it was caused from no air filter. The ECU would correct fueling for the "extra" air coming in. I'll correct myself if there's evidence of debris entering the engine and causing damage b

    There is a better chance that it blew the head gasket because it was overheated at some time or multiple times. With factory tune they are a little lean in the middle and the radiator fan doesn’t kick in until 200 degrees. I would definitely consider upgrading head studs right away now that you have it apart.

    Mike, it would be prudent to lock the cams so that when you remove the chain, they don't spin over due to valve spring tension. That prevents bent valves!
    That engine uses MLS head gasket which is not forgiving in any way. Machining the cylinder head and decking the block is recommended. Basically, the failure was a head gasket and TTY head bolts that allowed the head to lift during overrev. I appreciate people doing this with their Subarus on Vail pass since it brings revenue to our shop. Every one of them will have an ARP stud kit as opposed to TTY bolts, without fail.

    I think it was just it's time. the machine is designed to be run hard and whan you consider how many hours it's done it wear and tear head gaskets go and generally the first thing to go when driven hard. Engine gets extreme heat as you know metal moves when it's warm my guess is it got hot worped it literally not even a millimeter and the coolant found the weak spot of the gasket. BUT no filter could have contributed been forced through the turbo turning the inside of the engine into a literal sandblasted lol never the less great video and I think you really wanted to damage it to be able to fix it 😂😂😂

    So the original engine has higher compression ratio than the one you put in. The one you put in normally has a slightly larger turbo paired to it

      This is true, although I put the original turbo on the new engine - it definitely runs harder and pulls 3 more MPH top speed.

    look up the trick with sticking two wrenches together for leverage

      I think so - bumpers, rock sliders, cage and a arms is the plan.

    Nice job Mike. Good to see a UTV tear down. It’s really just a bigger quad. It will be fun seeing the suspension details get handled.

    Damn, it's a real bummer that box didn't come with the Japanese screwdrivers. Like they really dropped the ball on that especially for the price. What a shame.

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  Місяць тому +1

      That would be a BIG plus if they had even just one JIS and flat head

    • @Berm_Blaster
      @Berm_Blaster Місяць тому

      @MichaelSabo in my opinion including those is a no brainer. If it had those it would be well worth the price but without em I feel like you can get the same tools for less money since none of them are real specialty. Still cool tho and like you said perfect for the track just needed those damn screwdrivers.

    The weight=quality thing is because of the Chinesium that has taken over. Chinesium is always lighter than the same thing made out of quality material.
