Mr. Harvey (Stanley Tucci) lures Susie (Saoirse Ronan) into his underground hideaway.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Fourteen-year-old Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan) is just experiencing the pangs of first love when she's viciously murdered by her neighbor Mr. Harvey (Stanley Tucci), a predatory wolf in J.C. Penney clothing. As her family slowly begins drifting apart while struggling to make sense of their loss, Susie bravely attempts to find her footing in the hereafter. Meanwhile, down on earth, Mr. Harvey is feeling confident that he's covered his tracks well enough to get away with the crime, and begins honing in on his next victim -- Susie's younger sister, Lindsey (Rose McIver), who's beginning to suspect that he's not the harmless suburbanite he portrays himself to be. Director Peter Jackson reteams with King Kong and Lord of the Rings trilogy co-screenwriters Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh to adapt Alice Sebold's bestselling novel for the big screen.

Honestly my worst nightmare.
Conceal carry will empower you! I recommend a snub nose revolver.
Rylee I though he was in my room after I finished the book and the movie. LOL
Yep
Rylee it happens in the world !
Ikr😂😂😂
He sure plays the character very well because he is legitimately creeping me out.
He is like my bus driver. He is scary as shit.
Red Moon 96 agree!
Red Moon 96 Somewhere I read an article where he said he was very careful w her during filming, and it disturbed him that he played such a disturbing role. He gave a reason why he ended up taking it on, I don't remember, but it was important to him, always making sure she was ok throughout ...
Obie drier ... I read the same thing. He sure was creepy in this movie. Great movie, great song and a sad ending.
I don’t know why but he gives me ted bundy vibes
to everyone criticizing suzie's actions: at the very beginning of the movie, the character herself stated that it happened in the 70s, when the concept of stranger danger didn't exist (and neither did psychological profiling). reports of such cases weren't common, so the context of her being so naive is explained from the start. plus, he was her neighbor, which makes the case even more complicated and creepier
it's also worth pointing out that we're taught as children to be polite to adults, especially girls. we're taught to show deference to our elders and that causes us to ignore our own instincts when they're screaming at us that a situation isn't safe. i'm 29 and still trying to unlearn that.
Also her parents stated that she KNEW him, most of this horrible cases, happen because the victim knows the agressor and trust him/her
She’s also a child, not saying that all kids are stupid, but it’s very common for kids to just be innocent and always want to see the good in people
and 14 yrs old. told to be polite and respect adults no matter what
Bro what ? In the 70s black people were dying, being lynched the MOST at that time, so just stop it
“I have to go”. Is so heartbreaking. She knows somethings wrong, she knows that he knows, and shes so scared. It’s horrible.
This movie taught me that it's not just strangers you have to watch out for, it's also people you know. I remember hearing a story about a girl accepting a ride from someone and how she trusted him because he was her friend's father. It didn't end well.
@@ihh619is the story anywhere to read?
Yep, this clip doesn’t show the beginning of the scene, where Susie thought the concept of creating a hideout for the kids was cool and enthusiastically followed to check it out. But when she actually read the situation down there, it made her realize just how creepy it was for a middle aged man to do this.
This scene Is so intense that you even start to feel the girl's emotions.
yes!!!!
Jelly Flower ikr
I remember first watching this without having a clue about the story, I wish I would of been able to read it first but it made the scene even more upsetting because I didn't know for sure what was going to happen even though I did...:(
my heart is beating so fast i can't
i'm hiding in the comments i hate this scene
The first time I watched this I felt so much dread.
The reason they did not film the r*pe scene was because the actor desperately did not want to even pretend to do something so vile to the young actress. It actually distressed him to consider it at all.
That’s Stanley Tucci for you! Great guy!!
Yeah, I love them both. Great actors!!
Billy Bob Johnson tf why would you want to see that that’s weird
Billy Bob Johnson you are sick.
@Billy Bob Johnson creep...
It’s really gets me that he tells her to be polite in this scene. A lot of literature on abuse and trauma talks about how predators use the concept of politeness to guilt people into staying silent/being unable to cry for help/escape. It’s a really interesting detail they’ve added here. So awfully real.
exactly
I was sa as a child. This is too accurate. I like how they incorporated that she tried to appease him after she realizes she made a huge mistake. Because that is how children react. I did that too.
A lot say, you could have done more or scream louder to protect yourself. Thry don't understand.
In my case it was also someone very close to my family whom I was supposed to obey, respect and treat politely and friendly.
Even as an adult, we fall into this. We try to be nice enough to avoid being hurt, because we see how some predators deal with rejection as well.
In the scene you literally feel like her..the acting is so strong. You feel her dread as she realizes the enormous mistake she's made by following him into his lair and you feel her immense terror leading up to her death. Both are incredible actors in this role.
She's like Oops. Now I have to get myself away from him. What do I do now?
Underground evil lair. He's like oh I need your opinion. I just built this for all the kids. It's super cool. It's a clubhouse. I know you will like it.
I'm glad this was just a movie. Not real
@@user-xy3ks9sp3tsh*t like this happens every day
"Never trust strangers"
No.
Never trust anybody.
Period.
Preach
Guys what simba meant was that in the movie the rapist actually was not a stranger but someone the girl knew
+Kathrine Elizabeth every single person can hurt you, that's the problem. don't trust anybody, ever. not even your own partner, not even your family, they can do stuff to you, never ever trust anybody so much, that's dangerous, you're giving yourself to the devil. you never know what people are capable of.
Andrew no its just the truth. There are so many fake people in this world, who can you trust? People can hurt you once they gain your trust, it's so easy. I myself am a really clingy person, and I hate it when I trust people so much, sometimes it gets me in deep shit. So I don't want to trust people but some people are just so good at making you trust in them so much especially if they're your best friends. Trust is a huge thing, it's not something to play around with. People who used to trust so much now don't trust at all because of what happened to them, trust is something so dangerous.
Andrew maybe your family can kill you one day or your girlfriend can poison you, people can explode any moment, we're like time bombs, I don't even trust my family members sometimes, even my own dad, sometimes my mum but that's rare, mostly my dad. Your friends can betray you too. But its totally up to you on who you wanna trust. This is just what I think and how I feel.
"I'm not gonna hurt you Susie"
Kills her. Bruh?
LOL!
😂👍
+TheHuzio4G why did he killed her like why?
+hot fella because he raped her and he's a serial killer

When I was in junior high school, the art teacher seemed friendly and harmless, like Mr. Harvey. One day, he kept me after class to talk about my grade because it was a C. When he pulled my schedule up he saw I had multimedia production (movie making and editing) as a class, and started asking if I wanted a career in the industry and whatnot. I told him I do and we had a nice conversation about it. Then he asked what my other interests were, and 12 year old, Red-Dead-Redemption-1-Obsessed me told him I had a special fascination with firearms, specifically revolvers, and that I also liked Bowie knives. After I said that, he never talked to me again, unless it was something class-related.
I didn't really think much about it, but five years later, in 2015, the news broke that he had been sexually assaulting boys. Six of his victims stepped forward and detailed how he would groom his victims starting first with conversations, then gifts, then luring them to his house, claiming that he had Hollywood connections and could help get students movie industry jobs. I'm pretty sure he had more victims because he had been doing it over a 15-Year period. He committed suicide during the trial so he never got fully prosecuted. He also posted bail immediately after bei g arrested, which itself is pretty horrifying.
It's also really scary to think how close I came to being one of his victims, but was saved only by my 12 yr old edge-lord behavior.
I had a creepy art teacher, too! Did you by any chance go to Steele Heights Jr. High?
@@sabrinamiller3671 No I went to JHS 2010-2012
I'm gonna use the "I love knives" as a defense from creeps from now on
At least he didn’t kill the poor boys I suppose :(

The “mmhmm mmhmm...
“ noises are the worst.
Hasty and devoid of empathy, like he’s just itching to get down to business.
Mr Harvey’s voice is also so unnaturally deep and growly here too (as opposed to before he lured Susie underground).
Like a wild animal about to devour its prey.
Chills.
God it's gross...
i wanted her to escape so bad

guess what, she didn't
Why you so angry ? Milkeriya Ansley

I'm SO happy they didn't film the rape scene. That was such a sickening and graphic part in the book.
why ? what happens ?
why ? what happens?
+mothafuckathomaselliot what do you think happens? It's a rape scene
+mothafuckathomaselliot I'm sorry if that came out harsh
Its just very graphic he basically taunts her and she describes the feeling of him and its just gross..
The fact that she was just minutes away from her house is haunting and tragic all at the same time
The sad thing is that it wasn’t her escaping it was her soul wishing that she did escape
Omg noo I just finished watching this movie now I'm a crying mess😭😭💔💔
😢😢😢too freaking sad. That scene was just too too sad.
When she said I have to leave and he replied "Don't be rude" I knew she was fucked.
Hino Swane as soon as she entered his rape n kill burrow I knew she was fucked. Literally fucked.
Stanley Tucci is seriously one of the most underrated actors
I don't mean just for this role, I mean like in general when people talk about great actors and such he never seems to get mentioned
+paigestation The Oscar nomination really proves your assumption to be wrong. He is a very well known actor nowadays. Not Tom Cruise or Johnny Depp, but I'm pretty sure the guy goes places.

Almost every woman alive has had an unwanted encounter with a "creepy guy" at some point or other. Most of the encounters are harmless but my heart weeps for those girls and women who were victimized and killed. Unfortunately, we seem to always remember the names of the sick murderers and details about their lives but never seem to remember the names of their innocent victims.
Yep ... I had an encounter with someone creepy and only recently learned the truth about him... it’s why I trust my gut feeling now.
@@iamsherlocked345 I'm glad you are okay. Stay safe.
Thank you so much!
Women and men both have had those creepy encounters with creepy men AND creepy women.

Fair enough but the number of male serial killers far outnumber the number of female serial killers percentage wise---
roughly 85 percent male and 15 percent female. Creeps come in all forms.
They way mr. Harvey says "no be polite" after Susie tells him she has to leave is so scary & intimidating. Us girls need to realize its okay to be rude to persistent strangers or ppl who are flat out being creepy
it’s understandable why some girls r polite abt it cuz they’re worried the person might get aggravated
@@evanna3950 exactly, i'm 23 i'm not even a teenager anymore but i still struggle to feel safe as a young woman and sometimes when people are acting weird or when men are being creepy, it's very difficult to know what to do. i'm personally always scared that if i say something like "get lost, let me alone you freak" then the person is going to get even more aggressive. i mean, who knows what some people could actually do if they get angry! like pulling out a knife or something like that... it's a scary world we live in (i'm sorry for my english by the way, my first language is french)
Her fate was sealed the moment she went to his little "hideout"

Right one of the most dumbest thing she ever done
Aaliyah Douglass heartbreaking really
@@aaliyahdouglass2166 no this wasn't dumb, she was so terrified that she couldn't move,, also it wasn't her fault
Clém It wasn’t her fault that she decided to go into an underground playhouse, at night, with her creepy neighbor who happened to randomly be there? I wasn’t that dumb at 14.
Stanley Tucci is an AMAZING actor. If he can creep me out in this and make me laugh in The Devil Wears Prada and Easy A, that's talent.
hell yeah , Stanley Harvey...uhm sorry Mr.Tucci was the best actor in lovely bones...Saoirse was great to and Susan Sarandon. the other guys did a good job (specialy Carolyn Dendo) and the music is so great (song to the sirens)
i think this is the saddest movie
don't forget about his hilarious performances in Undercover Blues and It Could Happen to you
Don't forget he plays the comical role of Caesar Flickman in the Hunger games movies, too!
You’re right! I loved the way he said “All God’s children” in Easy A. He was such a cool dad there. And its amazing that he’s able to transform into a creepy murderer here! Absolute Brilliance!
Right!
when she says "it is its very special" in the shakey voice trying really hard to keep it together and keep it light in order not to set him off was so realistic
The minute a guy says, “I’m not going to hurt you”…he’s going to hurt you.
I remember a week before I started to walk to school my dad made me watch this to get the message across not to talk to strangers
that's a good idea
Your dad is smart that's an awesome idea they should show this movie in school
The scary truth is... This was her neighbor. It's awful but it happens.
Well :/ They've got to live somewhere... and the problem is they will live anywhere they can. The problem with living anywhere you can is that anywhere is also everywhere.

His character was very wretched, but Stanley Tucci did a phenomenal job acting in this movie.
I cried watching this
+Teamjakill yeah me too. Harvey's death was saddest thing in the movie.
Top 10 anime deaths
i feel bad for his kids if they ever watched this
It helped me even get through this movie that he played the part. I have such positive views of him generally tha I never had to feel totally convinced. He did wonderful and all but I just knew it wasn't him, AT ALL, and that was comforting.
@@realSimoneCherie Have you seen the behind the scenes videos from The Lovely Bones? This scene (where Susie tries to escape) is one of them.
Stanley Tucci was very sweet to Saoirse Ronan when they weren't filming!
The fact it’s underground makes the entire situation so much more scary and terrifying.
1:33 the way she agreed to please him, even though she was extremely uncomfortable is insanely detailed!!! the little breaths and how she said it quickly is exactly how a young girl like her would’ve said it! this movie never fails to blow my mind
His eyes are so creepy.

Mario and Luigi
but they're my biggest turn on
never trust people with thick rapist glasses
Roy Mustang Santa Claus
this dialogue is written so well, because it highlights the specific fear of so many young women
-being expected to entertain men’s expectations for the sake of “being polite”
-not being able to talk freely
-when susie expresses concern, he dismisses her and talks about something else
-telling her she’s “not like other girls” to make her feel special, different, above them in maturity
-keeping a monotone and serious tone of voice the entire time to make you feel like your emotions are excessive and you’re being paranoid
We get it, you hate men 🤣
That "you have to be polite" made me remember "teach your kids to prioritise being safe rather than being nice"
This scene scared me because I watched this when I was like 12 but watching this again, I can't help but think that Stanley Tucci did an amazing job at this and the fact that he didn't feel comfortable playing a child molester reassures me a thousand times more.
Sophie Mariff same but I first watched this when I was like 10 and now I’m 13 and realize what’s actually going on

wait so he does rape her. in the movie they kind of just say he killed her...
Nathani Da Rocha ya he raped her in the movie then killed her
Nathani Da Rocha yep, in the book it describes the majority of the sCeNe
This scene genuinely gave me such an unnerving and uncomfortable feeling. Props to these two 👏🏼

I've watched movies that are often called the most disturbing movies ever. A Serbian Film, 120 Days Of Sodom, etc. It takes a LOT for a movie to make me feel uneasy. This scene did it.

Let’s not forget about “you’re very pretty Susie”
The fact that he dug a humongous hole, bought all these toys and stuff to lure, and committed to this just to satisfy his murderous urge he had for her makes it all the more terrible. Really shows how for lengths a killer will go just to meet his deeds
I feel like some of those toys & Knick knacks were from kids he’s killed before.
People should just generally stay away from old dudes that use the word neat to describe something of their own creation. Or just generally use the word neat.
that's like 90% of school teachers in modern age...
+Listendeafpeople teachers in public schools are creepy to.
so using a certain word makes you a creep? This is logical to you?

Nadine Canlas lol
I told my son early that adults make friends with other adults, not kids. Also, that adults don't need help from or need to keep secrets with children. He understood and we still talk about how to safely navigate the world now that he is a teenager.
I know, right? Honestly, there is nothing that should interest adults when it comes to kids other than making sure they are safe. We used to have a neighbor similar to this man and I would always shut off all attempts from him to have a friendly conversation. 😰
It feels so scary because they did this scene so perfectly. You feel scared because you can see her becoming more alarmed knowing something will happen and there's no escape. Just imagine knowing there's nothing you can do to prevent harm.

This scene affected me really badly. I went through something very much like this a few years ago but luckily I did make it out alive. The fear, the sinking feeling in my chest, the disgust, the anxiety - i felt it all again while watching this. You feel confused at first and then when you realize what you've gotten yourself into, you're absolutely frozen. My mom watched this with me but I've never told her about my experience so it was really hard for me to control myself and not show how disturbed I was in front of her.

I think part of what makes this scene so tense is that we’re not shocked like Susy to realize what’s about to happen. From the start we know what is coming and this whole time we have to watch her slowly come to terms with it, powerless to help.
My heart beats faster just watching this scene. Truly terrifying.

+Tinath Zaeba Me too. I can't watch rape scenes. They make me cringe and cry.
They cut it off to keep the rating from going into R-rated; otherwise I bet they would've been a bit more graphic about it.
Elaine Snow Wait Mr Harvey raped Susie in the book? Oh My God! That's messed up.
Lesson and Learn kids out there:Never trust an unknown stranger that you've never seen or unknown. You know what will happen!
Jane Doe Yes! And gets worse, he rapped her, then stabbed her and finally he dismemberment her
A lot of people say to their kids “don’t talk to strangers” but 95% of abductions and murders happen from people that the victim knew.
It's very scary knowing how many family friends or even relatives groom these children
I’m glad my parents showed me this movie as a kid because it made me be more careful of strangers around me as unfortunately we live in a very cruel world. When my children are of age I’ll be showing them this movie too because it seems things are only getting worse
My mom took me to see this when I was a teenager this was during middle School I was in. It teaches me not to go with strangers in a open field where you're alone never do that go alone. There's this guy I've been dealing with. He's creepy like that guy in the movie. The same question he asked do you have a boyfriend. The guy asked if I had a boyfriend. Truth is I do have a boyfriend and I said no to him I lied to him. No I wasn't in an open field by myself I was in the mall. I should have said yes I have a boyfriend and he's very protective of me. He is protective of me.
The creepy old guy that I deal with is in his 40s he was going to take me somewhere just me and him and he didn't say where. I never went with him I was smart I didn't go

The most horrible thing is that we can tell, by the look of utter shock and dawning realization on Susie's face, that she understood what was up. That she knew she had just made the biggest mistake of her life right there, and that all hopes for her to be heard or rescued were vain. Makes me want to cry in frustration.
“I’m not gonna hurt you Susie”
“I’m gonna kill you and put you in a safe”

Stanley tucci honeslty destroyed this role....he should of won the Oscar for this...amazing
He got nominated but lost to Christoph Waltz. Still though, being nominated is a feat of its own!
He said he was emotionally disturbed after this role
As someone who went through something similar at a very young age, I can assure you they did a very good job portraying the creepiness of the situation without being vile and insensitive, the way he looks at her, the way he grabs on her when she wanted to run, the way she's terrified to look at him and how she tried to climb up those stairs with everything she's got, it's so vivid to me cause I did the same and tried my hardest to escape and fortunately succeeded to although the experience is horrifying and haunting. This is uncomfortable to watch yet it portrays reality which is nothing but ugly and bitter.

Me: BE POLITE
Fr. That wasn’t very cash money of you
The 'mhm's are one of the most unsettling parts for me in this scene.
amanda lmao I know, creepy!!
The book was much more graphic:
From the book:
Chapter One
Page 8-11
Mr. Harvey asked me if I would like a refreshment. That was how he put it. I said I had to go home.
“Be polite and have a Coke,” he said. “I’m sure the other kids would.”
“What other kids?”
“I built this for the kids in the neighborhood. I thought it could be some sort of
clubhouse.”
I don’t think I believed this even then. I thought he was lying, but I thought it
was a pitiful lie. I imagined he was lonely. We had read about men like him in health class. Men who never married and ate frozen meals every night and were so afraid of rejection that they didn’t even own pets. I felt sorry for him.
“Okay,” I said, “I’ll have a Coke.”
In a little while he said, “Aren’t you warm, Susie? Why don’t you take off your parka.”
I did.
After this he said, “You’re very pretty, Susie.”
“Thanks,” I said, even though he gave me what my friend Clarissa and I had
dubbed the skeevies.
“Do you have a boyfriend?”
“No, Mr. Harvey,” I said. I swallowed the rest of my Coke, which was a lot,
and said, “I got to go, Mr. Harvey. This is a cool place, but I have to go.”
He stood up and did his hunchback number by the six dug-in steps that led to
the world. “I don’t know why you think you’re leaving.”
I talked so that I would not have to take in this knowledge: Mr. Harvey was no
character. He made me feel skeevy and icky now that he was blocking the door. “Mr. Harvey, I really have to get home.”
“Take off your clothes.”
“What?”
“Take your clothes off,” Mr. Harvey said. “I want to check that you’re still a virgin.”
“I am, Mr. Harvey,” I said.
“I want to make sure. Your parents will thank me.”
“My parents?”
“They only want good girls,” he said.
“Mr. Harvey,” I said, “please let me leave.”
“You aren’t leaving, Susie. You’re mine now.”
Fitness was not a big thing back then; aerobics was barely a word. Girls were
supposed to be soft, and only the girls we suspected were butch could climb the ropes at school.
I fought hard. I fought as hard as I could not to let Mr. Harvey hurt me, but my hard-as-I-could was not hard enough, not even close, and I was soon lying down on the ground, in the ground, with him on top of me panting and sweating, having lost his glasses in the struggle.
I was so alive then. I thought it was the worst thing in the world to be lying flat on my back with a sweating man on top of me. To be trapped inside the earth and have no one know where I was.
I thought of my mother.
My mother would be checking the dial of the clock on her oven. It was a new oven and she loved that it had a clock on it. “I can time things to the minute,” she told her own mother, a mother who couldn’t care less about ovens.
She would be worried, but more angry than worried, at my lateness. As my father pulled into the garage, she would rush about, fixing him a cocktail, a dry sherry, and put on an exasperated face: “You know junior high,” she would say.
“Maybe it’s Spring Fling.” “Abigail,” my father would say, “how can it be Spring Fling when it’s snowing?” Having failed with this, my mother might rush Buckley into the room and say, “Play with your father,” while she ducked into the kitchen and took a nip of sherry for herself.
Mr. Harvey started to press his lips against mine. They were blubbery and wet and I wanted to scream but I was too afraid and too exhausted from the fight. I had been kissed once by someone I liked. His name was Ray and he was Indian. He had an accent and was dark. I wasn’t supposed to like him. Clarissa called his large eyes, with their half-dosed lids, “freak-a-delic,” but he was nice and smart and helped me cheat on my algebra exam while pretending he hadn’t. He kissed me by my locker the day before we turned in our photos for the yearbook. When the yearbook came out at the end of the summer, I saw that under his picture he had answered the standard “My heart belongs to” with “Susie Salmon.” I guess he had had plans. I remember that his lips were chapped.
“Don’t, Mr. Harvey,” I managed, and I kept saying that one word a lot. Don’t. And I said please a lot too. Franny told me that almost everyone begged “please” before dying.
“I want you, Susie,” he said.
“Please,” I said. “Don’t,” I said. Sometimes I combined them. “Please don’t” or “Don’t please.” It was like insisting that a key works when it doesn’t or yelling “I’ve got it, I’ve got it, I’ve got it” as a softball goes sailing over you into the stands.
“Please don’t.”
But he grew tired of hearing me plead. He reached into the pocket of my parka and balled up the hat my mother had made me, smashing it into my mouth. The only sound I made after that was the weak tinkling of bells.
As he kissed his wet lips down my face and neck and then began to shove his hands up under my shirt, I wept. I began to leave my body; I began to inhabit the air and the silence. I wept and struggled so I would not feel. He ripped open my pants, not having found the invisible zipper my mother had artfully sewn into their side.
“Big white panties,” he said.
I felt huge and bloated. I felt like a sea in which he stood and pissed and shat. I felt the corners of my body were turning in on themselves and out, like in cat’s cradle, which I played with Lindsey just to make her happy. He started working himself over me.
“Susie! Susie!” I heard my mother calling. “Dinner is ready.” He was inside me. He was grunting.
“We’re having string beans and lamb.”
I was the mortar, he was the pestle.
“Your brother has a new finger painting, and I made apple crumb cake.”
Mr. Harvey made me lie still underneath him and listen to the beating of his heart and the beating of mine. How mine skipped like a rabbit, and how his thudded, a hammer against cloth. We lay there with our bodies touching, and, as I shook, a powerful knowledge took hold. He had done this thing to me and I had lived. That was all. I was still breathing. I heard his heart. I smelled his breath. The dark earth surrounding us smelled like what it was, moist dirt where worms and animals lived their daily lives. I could have yelled for hours.
I knew he was going to kill me. I did not realize then that I was an animal already dying.
“Why don’t you get up?” Mr. Harvey said as he rolled to the side and then crouched over me.
His voice was gentle, encouraging, a lover’s voice on a late morning. A suggestion, not a command.
I could not move. I could not get up.
When I would not - was it only that, only that I would not follow his suggestion? - he leaned to the side and felt, over his head, across the ledge where his razor and shaving cream sat. He brought back a knife. Unsheathed, it smiled at me, curving up in a grin.
He took the hat from my mouth. “Tell me you love me,” he said. Gently, I did.
The end came anyway.
That's terrifying
Thanks for sharing this...JESUS HOLY FRICK this is so disgusting and traumatizing its a good thing they didn't portray it that way in the movie
Thanks, i think i cant sleep today
I’m surprised no one else has mentioned how he’s blocking the ladder as he’s showing her the place. Sly way to keep her from leaving.
"Im not gonna hurt you"…is like the oldest lie in human history, love the movie though
Yes, this film reminded of what a monster Ted Bundy was, He claimed before he was electrocuted in Florida that he had murdered other unknown women in states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania, if I remember correctly.
Why did you love the film? 😅
Why did you love the film? 😅
The 60 seconds leading up to this scene are the best part of the movie. Peter Jackson captures perfectly and palpably the feeling when the air goes out of the room as you realize that something that seemed fun and harmless is actually a thing of great danger and horror. You can feel it with her. (The rest of the movie is hit and miss, but this sequence is so honest and true, a great moment in cinema-if hard to watch.)
+Sarah I actually do like the film, i totally agree with this part being intense....
+Sarah "No adults..."
Yes, that scene was gut-wrenching to watch. I read on Wikipedia, that the audience in a sneak preview of the film felt that the monster Harvey’s death was not satisfying enough. So Peter Jackson changed the scene to show Harvey falling to his death off of that cliff.
I personally would have preferred to have seen that savage suffer the same fate as the eunuchs of Ancient Rome, with his “bits” forced down his throat before finally tossing him into a raging bonfire. That would have been a condign punishment for that animal.
Anybody ever watch a movie countless times and even though you know what's going to happen in your mind you're hoping the outcome is different? This was one of those movies 😢
I can't imagine how difficult the role was for him. I love Stanley Tucci. He's one of my favorite actors.
This part in the book was so disturbing to read. Although this scene in the movie adaptation doesn't portray everything described in the book, this scene still gives me chills. This is such a phenomenal movie. Saoirse Ronan and Stanley Tucci were fantastic in this.
VegasFirefly I know! I still think about it randomly and it's been mo this since I read the book
VegasFirefly what happened in the book?
Jordyn’s World It graphically explains her rape and murder. This scene does capture how horrific it really was
Morgan Webb OH MY GOD wow that’s very sad😢
Jordyn’s World doesn't *
I remember the day I watched this in a movie theater. During this scene, it was dead silent.
He played the scene so well im laying hands on him when i catch him in real life!
I remember when I first saw it I genuinely thought she escaped when she kicked him in the face. So sad.
But it was her soul wanting to believe she had escaped....I was so happy I was like yess yess RUNNNN and then I realised she's dead....😣💔😭
Stanley Tucci was nominated for an Oscar for this role- he should've won it.
Agreed. And I also think Saiorse Ronan should have won an Oscar too. She is an amazing actress.
No, Waltz in Basterds did it better
He had tough competition that specific year
My dad watched this movie and wouldn’t let me leave the house unsupervised for two weeks, and then pulled me in the house and almost called the cops when I said hi to a male neighbor. Safe to say this movie scarred him for life.
Alex Larson. Your dad should channel his anxiety into training you to look out for yourself and to defend yourself, as he won't be able to protect you indefinitely.
Your dad has his heart in a good place but he's being illogical I'm sorry
Мне оставил шрам этот фильм я теперь будущих детей сопровождать буду
I feel like I can’t breathe when I watch this
as a fully grown man of 24 i must say this scene still is so nerve racking for me and hard to watch.
Jesus Christ, this scene is suspenseful.
This scene creeps me out
Bruh look at yo profile picture
Don't use that as an expression because it is not allowed in the Bible OK peace
I'm always careful who I talk to. Last year, a man in a van stopped by me when I was walking to school and asked me if I wanted a ride. I said no. I continued walking and he followed me to school. When I got out the man was in the front of the school, so I through the back way and got home safely. I haven't seen him since then.
Solstice Delgado that's so creepy.
I’m glad you’re safe. You should’ve called the police though and given a description
Yeah, that's the cliché kidnapper. Thank goodness you're safe. I never ride with anyone except my girlfriend's parents or my own.
So sad i have daughters, and this my biggest fear...i dont allow them to walk to school or from school, but now days a killers are "the close friend" or "family member", or in this movie" the neighbor" so scary
Omg...You'd probably be in his basement or buried somewhere right now..that's so scary to think.
Originally tucci refused to do this part but after talking to her they decided to go ahead with the film and they kept talking to each other to make sure they were ok during each scene. At one point she lost it and was crying so bad he went to go make sure she was able to continue the film making.
The acting is so amazing, you can feel the panic radiating off of her
I admit this right now, this scene is horrifying to me.
I feel every. Single. Emotion Susie is having in this scene. My stomach is in knots, I am terrified, and just want her to get out of there. I don't know how the rest of this movie was, but this scene was beyond phenomenal.
It's weird because when I watch this scene, it feels so real and I feel like I've 100% experienced this myself, but I can't recall any specific experience I've had that's like this.
@@jamlym4974 that’s when u know it’s good acting
We watched this in our lesson today, When she kicked him on the face our whole classroom roared YES GO GIRL GO and when our teacher revealed ‘No that’s her soul escaping’ we were so upset
If a creepy man says to you “I’m not gonna hurt you” I just have one thing to say.. RUNNNN!
how can you murder those beautiful puppy dog eyes.
no kidding
toomuchraintrain like seriously 1:55 so scared. Great acting
matthew brutus I know right just creepy as can be.
We were all thinking it cinematic just said it first.
Because he’s a monster?
Once she got in the hole it was hell. She had no way out. If I were her i would call me mom or someone if I could I read this book for english class
***** heard of a cell phone? yknow. CALL
***** at least i know phones exist in 1973. lol
Crystallites Kawaii Fail.
Crystallites Kawaii Lol are you joking? Yeah, Susie could have telephoned from an underground room in 1973, let alone if she could have even done it from a cell phone in 2015. Jesus Christ.
crystallites k Judging from the fact that you called someone autistic, can't comprehend that cell phones didn't exist in that era (and even if they did it would be hard getting a signal underground), don't worry. The kidnappers would bring you back because they'd get so annoyed with you.
This is such a horrifying an uncomfortable scene to watch, I think. Just the atmosphere and how he looks at her, knowing his plan to murder her, how her suspicions grow...how things like this really happen.
Ugh this part gets me because you can tell that she knew she wasn’t getting out of there. Such wonderful acting, such hard parts to play
I'm crying I just wached that movie
BLACK BALLOON GLOBAL p
This scene gives me the creeps more than any horror movie!
My first time seeing Stanley Tucci play a villain, and I do not liiiike iiiit 😭 Definitely demonstrates his skill at his craft though.
All could've been avoided by a kick in the nads
never trust anyone you don't know
Yeah never ever trust anyone
Just never trust anyone. Like I do
He lived in the neighborhood and seemed friendly I guess
Vlad Țepeș except, she did know him...
PREACH
Tucci did such an amazing job, i really didn't even recognize him at first. I don't know why he doesn't do more serious roles.
God, there's something about Stanley's acting in this move, especially during this scene. His acting is so good that he can be so threatening even if he's not being aggresive. There's something deeply unnerving about him, like he's a wild animal ready to attack at any minute. Truly a magnificent work.
Oh god, Stanley Tucci is an amazing actor. The way he plays Mr. Harvey is so unnerving, but in reality he's such a nice guy. Well done!
You know, the scary thing is that she always knew him as her friendly neighbour so of course she wouldn't have suspected him of something i like this. You really can't trust anyone now. Stay safe everyone, I pray that no one in this world ever has to suffer an ordeal like this
When i watched this movie I was so scared
OMG me too
Same
me too
SAME!!!
I was like 5 when I watched this
This movie messed me up as a kid. Grew up with it playing in my grandmothers house all the time. My grandfather loved this film.
The terror she is feeling is palpable. If she had tried to escape while he was removing his jacket, maybe ...
Eww, I hate how he's breathing and everything yuck!
