Please check out the link in the description for the official report from Utah Avalanche Center. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in the incident. I am no authority in the space but I wanted to share my thoughts on the seriousness of the backcountry this season. Also, my dad turns 60 this year and my entire life I have spent chasing him around the mountain. It means so much to me to be able to still follow him like that and ski with him. Thank you, dad. I love you ❤️
I was just looking back at this video, your videos are so great! I love your songs and how you put it all together! You are the master of all, Lucas: skiing, filming and then the final product: Voila! Loved watching your Dad skiing with you, so great you have this time together on the mountain! My husband taught me how to ski in Colorado and he educated me to never go into the back country. So after all these years, I never have! Too much good skiing in the resorts! Thank you for all you do Lucas! 👍
Cool videos! Your love of skiing definitley come across and if you are living out of a van on the weekends to ski as many places as possible, you need to have a hole in your sock! :)
This is one of the most important videos you’ve put out. We have been skiing our entire lives and I only became educated on the true dangers of avalanches in the past couple years. It no longer just happens to the next guy! Everyone pls respect the boundaries of whatever resort you are skiing 🙏🏽
@@LucasCatania17 yea 😂 I was looking up stuff for park city on UA-cam a while ago since I had planned on coming out here from NC, and found your channel! Keep it up man, you’re part of why I consider doing a van conversion or at least moving out here👌
@@LucasCatania17 I've just finished at Sun Valley, they have not been getting good snow. Wouldn't recommend Sunrise, unfortunately. Still had fun though!
Hi Lucas! This video really highlights your thoughtfulness and kindness you have towards others. What a wonderful and informative tribute to the lives lost. I also appreciate your reminder about the importance of evaluating risks and respecting the risk of danger even in familiar places. My heart goes out to the victims, the rescue team, and you as well as the other observers. It's so hard to live through tragedy, no matter what the situation. On one hand, I think tragedy can serve as a little extra reminder to cherish life and your loved ones every single day, but its also brings a roller coaster of emotions to process.
Hi Amanda! I wanted to be respectful to the family and other people who were directly involved because I couldn’t imagine what they are going through. As I get older, I become a bit more aware each year where when I was younger I thought I could just out run an avalanche 😅. Unfortunately, the avalanche danger is so high this season that I thought a few deaths would serve as reminders for people. Tomorrow is never promised so Rest In Peace to the victim 🙏🏽
@@LucasCatania17 it was great! I was at mount snow in Vermont. It was my first time skiing outside of Pennsylvania which was awesome. The conditions and weather were amazing so I had an incredible time
That’s amazing dude! So stoked for you! I heard the east has been getting slammed with snow lately and Vermont has some pretty sick mountains! Went to stowe once when I was younger!
Hey Lucas, enjoyed watching your Dad ski! Stay safe out there Lucas! My prayers goes out to all that was involved in the incident and my condolences to the family that lost their loved one.
We were there on Jan 8 when the Dutch’s Draw fatality happened. Two days before my daughter and I watched a group wedge turn off the peak above Dutch’s draw. While we were there Square top slid as well. I feel bad for those effected and now reports of 4 more backcountry deaths. It’s tragic and i would argue preventable. I really wish people would stay in the resorts and our of the backcountry this year. Stay safe out there and keep bringing the stoke!
thanks byran. it truly is devastating. to think that someone leaves to go skiing for the day and never returns. absolutely historically tragic year for avalanche and backcountry deaths, but unfortunately i think we knew this was going to happen with more people going into the backcountry this year with COVID restrictions. i have skied resorts my whole life - 24 years now - never been backcountry skiing and don't really have the itch too. my goal is to inform people about how fun and safe resort skiing can be. thanks for your great comments man.
Was super excited to see this clip since I used to live at the base of the Canyons and love me some 9990 and all it offers. Unfortunately two casualties this year on each side of 9990, Dutch Draw and Square Top. Stay Safe
i was stoked too man. first time headed over to 9990, but unfortunately just wasnt a good day. maybe i should have stuck it out but theres just been too many fatalities over the years. tough pill to swallow.
@@LucasCatania17 Red Pine chutes and upper and lower east face is where it is at. Random question it looks like you parked at PCM village and traversed via lifts which would take forever, vs starting at canyons village. Can you not park at the canyons base anymore?
Those are sick chutes man! Gotta hit them this year! And no you can still park over at canyons but I love the whole ski over to canyons from park city!
My wife and debate over which side is better. I like Park City while she likes the (north side) of the Canyons. We almost always end up in the Canyons. Stay safe out there.
Lucas, I love your video, it is the best for ski video, just the dynamic and music and all the editing is awesome. Do you mind me asking what songs you are playing for this video. I love love the music and couldn't find it online

@@LucasCatania17 Thanks so much for quick response. Such amazing job for your videos. Feel like you should be professional youtuber, not just for ski, maybe can expend some other area.
sick man! i would recommend playing over on the motherlode and thaynes lifts to get comfortable on some steeper black runs! if youre good with those, you could hit up mckonkeys for some more difficult blacks and double blacks! let me know how it goes!
Great video, you do a great job of filming, editing. You are a great story teller and that makes your channel on of the best ski channels. Thanks for letting us tag along on your great ski adventures. Keep up the great work.
Roger thank you so much for the kind words. Seriously seriously appreciate it. Genuinely just love making videos and have ever since I was little. Thank you for such an awesome comment.
sick man! stoked for you! i have never been to ghee so cant speak on that but i would say for jackson the tram line will probably be over an hour wait so dont be afraid to use the other lifts to get around the mountain. definitely do a lap on the Hobacks to get the legs burnin! let me know how it goes!

Seriously! Was about a 20min wait
Dude Mystic pines off peak 5, 9990 then hike up to the right, saddleback and off to the right the pines, super condor trees.
Glad your ok
All good man 😎
Is there some kind of material that you can put on the inside front windshield that would help from it freezing up. Like felt on a reflective shield.

Rest In Peace the the fallen rider. This year has been horrible up at 9990. On another note, top notch video brotha (per usual)!

Go to Brighton fun mtn. Less lines
They should close that’s run if there has been 2 people pass. In a month
It’s a backcountry gate so it’s not really a run on the mountain. I think they did close the gate indefinitely now though!
