THANK YOU! I spent almost four months looking for the best method and yours is truly the BEST I'VE seen!
Hey bud thank you for video very good one/ question I got a high outputbpowernaster alternator has. neg and pos timernal do i add a power one to the 2nd battery aswell and i put a 0 gauge threw the amp meter or should i take it out? // my dash lights and radio go out when bass hits
Thank you for the video, I have a quick question. can you explain more about the amp meter? What it does? Why is it there? What will happen if I ground the negative terminal of the second battery to the body?
the amp meter tells the vehicle computer how much power the vehicle is using. (start up ,accesories ect.) if both neg cables do not run through the meeter the amps will not be measured correctly an the computer wont be able to do its job correctly. it will most likely throw a fault code and a check engine light.
This is by far the BEST explanation of a dual battery setup in the history of forever, great job on this man.. The community thanks you!
Thanks for the kind words
@@StoneBrokeAdventure Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for getting right to the point.
I like how you went slow and had the camera on everything you were explaining. So much better than other people on UA-cam they all rush through it so fast I don't get a chance to understand what they are trying to teach.
Did installing it like this allow it to be charged by your alternator?? And if so have you experienced any issues with it struggling to charge both?? Or have you upgraded the alternator to say a 320 already?
its seamless the alternator thinks it is one battery
and it charges both
Could you explain getting the wir through the fire wall more? The nipple isn't working for me
I don’t think an amp meter can get amp draws on two wires , well atleast for high voltage ac and low voltage ac to get amp draw you have to have amp meter on 1 wire at a time
Picture this: you have 1 battery cable with a amp meter around it. Now you strip the insulation off of that cable. Now you have an amp meter around 500 individual wires. Is dosnt matter if the individual wires are insulated or not . Also electrons flow on outside of wire so essentially weather insulated or not the power flows the same . If you had one wire through clamp to bus bar or busbar and 5 wires through clamp the total amount is the same .
This is great. If you happened to make a parts list I'd love to see it.
Parts list is in the description👍🏻
Is the second battery a starting battery like your primary one or a deep cycle? Great video btw.
it was a deep cycle i just replaced it with an exact match of stock batery
Very impressive! Good step by step. A wiring diagram for a visual would help. LOL! Didn't think about ammeter. Gonna have to think my older truck and my secondary circuit through. Putting a winch on my truck. Thx!
I just ordered an 80 amp isolator relay. Can this work to charge my aux battery?
Anybody?
Good stuff bro. Same as my Silverado battery setup. Good video bro
Thank you
Will you try True brand heavy duty dual battery isolator. Waterproof, corrosion proof and full warranty
Awesome! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Nice, simple, easy to understand video. Thanks for sharing. Looking at a second battery install for my 99 GMC Suburban to power my radios (ham, GMRS and CB) and some other accessories.
Mmm mlmk
shouldn't the secondary battery negative cable run through the amp meter to the negative battery terminal of the start battery? There is no way for the map meter to measure that secondary battery current without doing so.
The current is the current . the amp meter does not know if it is two Bateries or one. When the secondary is engaged during charging when the vehicle is running the meter just reads amps going to what it thinks is one big batery.
Good set up I’ll be doing the same to my 2010
Do you need a bigger alternator to charge both batteries or will the oem alternator work?
Oem works for me
Question: from the video the accessory fuse block how is it ground? or am i missing the ground connection. i see the ground leads coming back from the usb and the 12v socket to the fuse board, but i dont see what the fuse board is grounded to.
The vehicle frame via a seat bracket under the compartment
Looks great carnal
This is a good tutorial, I remember I tried connecting my secondary directly to the alternator and my gauges started going up and down like crazy, come to find out u can't do that, so I connected it to the other battery, the only issue now is that every now and then I'll get the "battery saver active" warning, which I don't get why
Are you runing your cables through the amp meter
run secondary neg cable directly to the primary neg. not to alt. and not through amp meeter
@@StoneBrokeAdventure secondary neg cable "not through amp meter", you had it through in the video?
Great video. How did you size the isolator & fuses?
Thanks for the video i like your set up
Why not use the 125 amp open on the battery, seams like alot of people dont use the open spor
🔴 What about the RVC system?
Sorry, I see what you said now
@@keepyourdignity8464 i didnt know what is was called but that is the section with the amp meter clamp thingy that mention. Lol
@@StoneBrokeAdventure 🔴 yes, I caught my mistake and made an apology comment. You gave sound advice 👍🏾thx for the upload❗
How did you attach the new terminal lug to the hold wires on the negative side?
You can use a terminal lug clamp or fill with solder using flux and a propane torch or both
How do you mount the insulator to the firewall?
i used short self taping sheet metal screws
what type and size is your second battery?
Size 24 deep cycle fits.
So without an isolator both batteries are essentially one?
Yes exactly.
@@StoneBrokeAdventure is there any down sides two batteries connected without a isolator?
@@ThaMetalMan the only downside that if you use accessories when engine is not running you may end up draining both battery’s and get stranded
Did you have to buy a tray to put the battery in?
Chevy has a tray
All kits come with a isolator now days lol amazon
What model battery do you have for your second battery? I read it needs to be a Group 48 size, is that true?
I put a deka marine master battery dp27 in and straped it down. Put a plywood base under it
@@StoneBrokeAdventure what was the amp rating for it ?
Any tips to remove battery active saver message?
No idea
I get this battery saver active notice as well
you could have save some cable cost by just running a short cable from 2nd battery negative to ground, not running a long cable back to the oem battery.
You need to run all the way back to primary so the amp sensor reads the current . I cover that point in the vid.
All this for a refrigerator..
No , all of this for a bazillion views on youtube.
