    man that's horrible about the suffering at the larimar mine, thanks for sharing that news. I've watched everything I could find about those 2 mines after discovering larimar and falling in love with it. Its so cool that it was born of lava flows but is such a cooling stone. It's like a seemingly contrasting great power & calmness energy. Contained in a frickin' gorgeous package.
    I hope for the best at the mines, and the people in the DR. Thanks Barbie!🔮💜

    In particular, the only Larimar mine is in Barahona, west of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Just came back from there. While Larimar is extremely rare worldwide. Larimar is very abundant across the Dominican Republic at various tourist and non-tourist areas. It can be found for as chap as 50 cents a gram for middle grade Larimar, but the secret is to find it in non-tourist areas where it’s sold to locals

    Those poor miners… I hope they rest in peace and that mining conditions can be improved. Thank you so much for making these videos, it’s such an important service to the crystal community!! I’ve seen this being peddled as snowflake jade or sometimes green larimar. It doesn’t even look like Larimar to me but I guess people believe what they want to believe. Another one I keep seeing is the uv reactive “yooperlite”. Have you heard anything about the “yooperlite” coming out of China? This past year or so I’ve seen so many towers, spheres, and carvings and I know that it can’t be the real stuff that comes from Michigan. I’m wondering if it’s either a different UV reactive sodalite-syenite mined from another location or possibly a man-made/reconstituted mineral? One shop owner I know told me that her wholesaler from China claimed it was all man-made. Thank you again for exposing these fakes, it’s so appreciated!!!

    I hate that China is calling it alabaster bc real alabaster is an ACTUAL STONE not glass at all😢. Google it. Glass nor these types of spheres come up. I have real alabaster it’s reminds me of crazy lace agate. I also hate that ppl are getting scammed! May the miners who perished rest in piece.

    • @urgentdental
      @urgentdental 2 роки тому +7

      Yes, I agree. It's better not to misuse the term of "alabaster" for or as anything else but the real crystal that alabaster is.
      Quote "Alabaster is the massive variety of Gypsum, which can occur as transparent crystals often twinned in swallow-tailed forms. The purest form of alabaster is white and translucent but the impurities (e.g. ferric oxide) can colour the stone in yellows, browns and black in veins or patches"

It has a cool pattern, but it is so very clearly not Larimar. I hope this information spreads like wildfire to save everyone from making mistaken purchases and I hope any sellers that have it at least sell it as Man Made Material.

    I also got some greenish Larimer beads at a discount. It looks a lot more like yours than the glass sphere. I hope I was able to get authentic Larimer crystals. They are gorgeous regardless but I would like to have the real thing since they closed the mines. I'm glad no one else is risking their lives for these. I am grateful beyond words for those that put themselves at risk to mine these and very saddened to hear that anyone gave there lives for mining.

      Druzy is the term you are looking for. It occurs when quartz breaks down and reconstitutes as new crystals on the surface of other quartz material. That is why you will find it in pockets in agates or on the surface of larger quartz crystals.

    Hi, I talked with one of Chinese supplier, he said the sphere one you got is a combination of real mineral (not larimar), coated with resin. The mineral inside is said to be hemimorphite or smithsonite, which might be true seeing the botryoidal habit, I got some of these pieces but without the resin. I've also seen really similar characteristic of tumbled hemimorphite with white ripples like larimar, but I'm not 100% sure if this 'fake larimar' is really hemimorphite or smithsonite, because I think the fake larimar it's 'greener' than hemi so I don't think it's hemimorphite(?). I'm suspecting this could be just a cheaper green pectolite (green larimar), or green angelite from Russia (polished in China). My other supplier told me he bought them not under larimar tradename, but rather angelite.

      When it's real it's a type of green jade from the Lushan Mountains in China. It varies wildly in price based on color and consistency. Sometimes people can try to trick you with other types of green stone like green amazonite, serpentine, heat treated green quartz, resins, glass... It's tricky to identify. One major tell is how hard and heavy real jade feels. In all it's forms it's extremely dense and strong.

But I don't think it's right they go out of their way stating "etically sourced" but not write about the reconstituted. The larimar mine is still there but due to flooding and unsafe conditions, it has been closed. The DC government has people that have submitted proposals to fix the problems and the mine might one day be reopened but it's going to take a lot of money, most likely into the millions to fix the mine and make it accessible again. Unfortunately, the likelihood of that happening is slim. Almost the same problem has happened at the tanzanite mine in Tanzania.
