- Westwood One and NFL Network analyst Ryan Leaf joins the Dan Patrick Show and thinks the Chicago Bears should pass on drafting a quarterback in this year's NFL Draft in favor of keeping and continuing to build around Justin Fields
- Спорт
Leaf is an inspiration. Completely changed his life. Good for him.
He's a professional football bust, a drug addict, a poor broadcaster, and a boring sports personality.
He's just a failure all-around. Wake up.
Agreed. Seems like a good dude. Very genuine and authentic
@@brooksorlando4881doesn’t changed he completely sucked
Love the guy now. You are 100% correct.
@@JamesHoffman-jl9ne Are you even human? Grow a brain
Leaf looks great and sounds very thoughtful. Hope to see him stay healthy and see continued success.
Finally someone with some sense and some loyalty. Everybody else is like a modern day 304, always tryna move on to the next best thing, but quickly find out afterwards the grass isn't always greener on the otherside, learn how to have some loyalty, and ride out together so something great can happen. Like building a powerhouse family/squad
Say it louder, for all the impatient fans, with no loyalty to JF1.
As a Giants fan, this entire debate reminds me soooooooooooo much of March 2023.
*"Should we trade or keep Daniel Jones. The Giants decided to keep him AND pay him $160 Mill.*
Six months later the Giants regretted it. 🙄
It’s not the same so get out of Bears business
Exactly bro. These goofies are suggesting the Bears do just that.
Yea gotta admit your team clearly overpaid a guy they were already on the fence about.
@@rogwarrior1018 not only overpaid, but clearly overdrafted. He was drafted 6th pick of the first round, even though he should have been drafted the other way round, 1st pick of the 6th round.
the funny thing about the Giants situation is... they could have EASILY Franchise tagged Daniel Jones for $37M this season to see if he improves (just like on-the-fence-Quarterbacks Kirk Cousin or Dak Prescott a few years ago, or Lamar Jackson last year), but the Giants decided to give him $160M ($100M guaranteed) straight up. 😆😅🤣😂
@herrguru4264 yea my Bears dud that with Trubisky. Thankfully they didn't extend his contract but we have been on the QB merry go round for years. I feel your pain.
The Bears can keep Fields, trade out of the # 1 spot and STILL draft MHJ.
They could actually trade down a sport with Washington, and then trade down again with New England and get Harrison anyway.
Going from 1 to 2 and then from 2 to 3 probably won't happen but the way things are playing out it could. Especially if the Giants jump past Arizona in the draft this weekend.
Those teams picking 2-4 do not want someone like the Raiders or Falcons leapfrogging them and snatching up the QB they want and need.
I trust Poles which ever direction he goes. He has earned the benefit of the doubt. I think if we keep Eberflus, we keep Justin.
You trust the guy who passed cold on CJ Stroud?
@@gen.barnakey__ If poles takes Stroud then stroud would be looking like Bryce is in Carolina with no DJM and no top tackle draft pick in Darnell.
Finally bro , a mf with an open mind, I think we are in a win win situation, if we keep fields we get hella picks back that could turn into game changers, and on the other hand while I do love fields I feel like Caleb Williams is just a better thrower of the football, I feel like he can walk in as a rookie and throw for 4000 yards when Justin haven’t even seen 3000 yet, and we keep saying Justin don’t have enough weapons but look at what Jordan love doing, Justin have better weapons than him and he still put up 4000 and 30 td’s, I’m happy either way because it’s better than anything we’ve had offensively
@@gen.barnakey__we wouldn't have DJ Moore or the 1st pick this draft.. wtf are you even processing
I'm a Bears fan and (IMO) Poles hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt. He allowed Getsy to hold a job and get paid for his bumbling play calling. We probably could have won several more games (3-5) this year if he knew what he was doing. Poles should have fired his ass by week 4.
Justin is SO fun to watch. I've been to 4 games this year. BUT . . . I won't blame the Bears' GM if he drafts Caleb.
Then you'll be looking like a clown 🤡 right along with the GM
Caleb is overrated drake maye is better
There both ass keep fields or take penix really late despite age. Keep FIELDS
@@C.G91Not really
Love his thoughts on this !!!!
I appreciate Ryan's insight. There's no way Bears front office should look back with regret 3 years from now if they select Marvin Harrison Jr (MHJ), who is most likely to make it to the Hall of Fame from this draft class (and not Caleb, Drake, Malik, insert name here)
They're looking back at regret getting fields now
First father son hof combo ever
@@C.G91 why would the Bears or any team regret drafting Marvin Harrison Jr? MHJ is the SAFEST high pick and is projected to be a multiple ProBowl, All/Pro Hall of Famer.
@@MathDontLie Because he has no one to throw to him. We saw what happens when you give Fields a WR1 -- NOTHING. It is like buying a bike for a fish.
@@JACKXK DJM had his best statistical season with Fields though... Adding a Marvin on top of this? Honestly I'm not even a Fields guy and I think his floor is 3500 yds easy with that combo and emerging Kmet.
If you look at the stats our center and right guard play has been really bad so I am drafting a center & a guard to bring in to upgrade the O-line. In addition, I would draft the receiver out of WA who I think would be a great fit next to DJ. Finally, I would add depth to the tackle position.
DJ wants marvin. Bears should get marvin.
@@victors6786Marvin or Odunze it really doesn’t matter. Both are very good.
@@SASBurner Lets not forget Malik. But Marvin is better than any of those guys. Even you Nabbers is much closer to Marvin than Odunze.
How difficult is it to comprehend that trading away the number 1 pick for a haul is insurance?
If Fields, who isn’t getting worse, doesn’t pan out you still have another 2-3 years of additional picks.
Getting rid of Fields for Caleb, who may be a bust, would be bad because now you don’t have any additional picks other than what the team
has earned based on their performance.
Getting rid of Fields is good because now instead of having a QB who loses games the Bears would have a QB who wins games.
@@JACKXKfields been winning as of late tho lol
And last year Ryan poles was literally in tank mode lmao
@@JACKXK Not sure if you actually see all of the Bears games but Fields hasn’t been the reason we lost so many games. He was the sole reason that we were competitive in so many though.
@@JACKXK you know...sometimes people have a way of really just simplifying the topic at hand. it's a pretty obvious choice when you put it that way.
Exactly. Stop focusing on just Fields. Look at what all the extra high picks can do to build a solid team that can win regardless of the qb. Look at SF? They have made the NFC championship game AND super bowl with iffy qbs?
Well said
Keep Eberflus, Getsy, and especially Fields. Give Poles a chance to add talent to the offense the way he has for the defense. Fix the offensive line! Lucas Patrick and Nate Davis have been busts as free agent signings. Trade down from #1 to #3, and again to #4 if possible, to add three day 2 picks. Select Harrison/Nabors and Turner/Verse in the 1st round, then the best OT, OG, and OC with the next three day 2 picks. Cut Borom (who will struggle to make a practice squad), don't resign Patrick, and release WhiteHair post 6/1/2024 to save over $10 million in cap space. Use that to sign a STARTING caliber (unlike Patrick) veteran Center. That will fix the short yardage struggles the Bears have had all season that have cost them 3 to 6 wins this season. We'll also see Fields thrive in the pocket next season without needing to be a magician to avoid the immediate pressure up the middle all the time.
Odunze best WR in the draft
Being a Badgers fan, thought I saw Tyler Biadasz is a UFA in 2024. Would that be a good get/fit?
i dont think Poles can get MHJ if he trades down past 3. The cardinals will likely take him at 4 to replace dhop. And getsy really needs to go

@@justingillis9254 IF the Cardinals win this weekend, they can actually drop all the way down to 7. Which opens up the trading options for Poles. Got to root for the Cardinals this weekend! Even if we don't get MHJ, I really like Odunze. Agreed, Getsy has got to GO! He's doing a terrible job of coaching JF1 and this offense.
Build team first. Can still move on next year or year after.
Caleb Williams could get you a solid haul to build a long term playoff team.
I agree with Ryan Leaf!!
Someone get Ryan Leaf an analyst job. He already sounds better than most guys on the big networks.
The question is not weather is Fields better then 1st overall next year, its is fields worth the fat contract you need to dish out after next year.
If the Bears pass on Caleb, Drake, Jaden, etc and Justin Fields stops developing then guess what? There will be QBs next year, and the year after. There are always QBs, and if you have the right staff and system in place, you don't need the single greatest QB of all time to win.
Hey clown the problem is the Bears won’t have the number 1 draft pick if Fields doesn’t work out
Williams is not the answer
He isn’t good or
tough enough for this town
The Media alone here will make him go cry to his mama again
@JulesWinnfield316 Why would they need the #1 pick?
Mahomes, Stroud, Jackson, Prescott, Hurts, Purdy, Allen, Rodgers, Cousins, etc.
For every Joe Burrow, there are 2-3 legit guys who weren't taken in the 1st round and 5-6 guys who weren't taken in the top 3 picks.
Apologize for speaking, and then never do it again.
@@thevoxdeus ok Dude I’m not going to waste my time going back and forth with you . Whatever you say
@@thevoxdeus none of the bums you mentioned except Mahomes and Rodgers have ever won anything
Ryan Leaf seems like he’s in a good place
Absolutely Keep Fields!
When you GM's say they would move on from Fields I believe most of them are only concerned about buying job security in a rebuild period. The Bears could have been in the playoffs this year had they closed out games they should have won & if this had happened we probably aren't even having a discussion around who should be the QB next year.
bears also had one of the easiest schedules in the nfl, and are picking top 10 still. fields has only beaten 1 starting qb.
DP the same could be said the other way around, if you move fields and his replacement is a bust you're gone even faster!
If you don’t want Caleb which is dumb. You trade down one spot and pickup 3 #1s at least; Redskins want him. Then trade down again and pickup at least another couple #1s. Then trade some of your #1s for future picks. You can end up with at least 6 #1s including your #9.
Thanks 👍🏿 Great career too...😉🤔
You dont trade a guy thats checks all the boxes. Justin will never be anything other than Justin....not Brady, not Manning, not Montana. But hes what we need.
Exactly and that's greatness right there in his name.
what you said i like
Keeping that studio clean must be a full time job with lots of overtime..
Ryan Leaf is spot-on. Get Marvin Harrison Jr. and don't miss a beat! Justin didn't truly have a rookie year. The gm and hc were fired soon after that season! The Bears are a lot better now: Ask Detroit. They still need pieces, but they already have what they need at QB. More weapons for Justin, better pass protection. Trading him defeats their purpose. His mobility-alone is undeniable. His passing also improves. He throws a better ball, he processes better. He extends plays. D.J. Moore and MHJr. would be famous together! So many on media not wanting Chicago to have a winner. Soon as they begin to show signs, they want to mess with their formula. They're one of the most-improved teams this year. Don't trade horses in the middle of a stream...
Ryan is a wise man.
I’m sure Jordan Love feels blessed to have been able to learn from Aaron Rodgers just as Aaron Rodgers was blessed to learn from Bret Favre. As a Chicagoan and long suffering Bears fan I ask who the hell has Justin fields gotten to learn from? Where is his blessing? Some flawed thinking analysts are trying to write Fields off after three years. They seem not to realize that Jordan is just getting started in his 4th year.
-These people seem to think that if the Bears keep drafting quarterbacks in the first round they will eventually strike gold. They don’t seem to realize that the problem is not the quarterback, it’s the rest of the Bears-the organization, coaching and rest of the team.
-At least a dozen quarterbacks around the league are having outstanding seasons. Most of them were not #1 draft picks and most have been around longer than three years. But does anyone think they would be doing as well quarterbacking the Bears? The answer is “hell no!”
-Let’s name some of them: Josh Allen, Jaylon Hurts, Dak Prescott, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, Joe Flacco, Brock Purdy, Matthew Stafford, Pat Mahomes. Now ask this question again. If any of these quarterbacks were here in Chicago they would be getting dumped on and blamed for everything like Fields
-The Bears seem intent on drafting quarterbacks in the first round but all they do is f-- them up as players. Other teams have learned it takes more than a first round pick to have a good quarterback and that it takes years for most quarterbacks to develop. Most are not like Pat Mahomes so why is he always mentioned here in Chicago. What about Matthew Stafford who is in his 8th year?
8tds 3 pics. Fixed it for you
The question is does fields want to stay in Chicago?
Love the Bocats!
Improve the OL. Draft or sign a WR and TE. Use the draft for defense
W take
As a Bears fan keeping Fields is dumb. If you have an average safety you get a better safety. If you have an average LT you get a better LT. If you have an average WR you get a better WR. But you have an average QB and after 45 years of poor QB play we are supposed to keep him? HARD PASS.
An average QB in Chicago, is historically an excellent QB by their standards. They have a right to be excited.
An average QB in Chicago, is historically an excellent QB by their standards. They have a right to be excited.
Brock bowers looks better than kmet but that doesn’t mean the bears will draft brock
Better than a coach who last played on a Division 2 college team I mean
Who he think is the #1 WR?
Keep Fields. Get rid of Eburfluse. Pair Fields with a young minded coach. We need a better coach/qb relationship. We have the oldest coach in division. We need a coach more relatable to Fields and knows how to coach him to get the best out of him
Ryan Leaf is articulative and cogent.
Nall keep that same energy all these analysts was saying trade JF1 A couple weeks ago saying reset the QB contract wit Caleb Williams now they saying keep Fields half these analysts should be fired the way they was talking early on but I guess that was all for the clicks and views to lead up to the bears getting the number one pick and them pushing that thru the media leading to the draft sh*t sad how the media will treat these players all for clicks and views
Trade to Washington for Daron Payne and a number one and second this year and number one next year. Draft MHJ and your pick a left tackle. And, the second round a center.
Ringing endorsement
So in a make or break year for Eberflus you get him a rookie QB. That doesnt make sense really
Yeah listen to Ryan frigging Leaf😂 Great idea for franchise success
wasn't Ryan Leaf the biggest draft bust in sports history?
See if the pats will give up a bunch of picks and maybe still get mhjr. Williams and maye look like projects not day one ready to go guys. Stockpile picks and build the roster
Historic bust says:
Ride with Fields.
...
Evidence that we should draft Williams
As a packers fan, please keep Justin Fields. He will be a good player, may even go to a pro bowl once or twice. But he won't ever be a top 5 QB in the NFL. Either Caleb or Drake Maye has superstar potential, I'd go get one of them.
Caleb Williams was sobbing like a b***h in his momma's arms after one loss. That's not a leader of men or winner. Maye played in the bum azz ACC and looks like a bootleg Daniel Jones.
Keep Fields and draft MHJ!! This team is legit.
Real question is where does Fields want to go? He knows the fan base switches when your play is up or down. Y’all were ready to give up on him earlier this same season
Keep Field's and trade down with New England for future draft picks and draft marvin harrison jr with the third pick. Replace getsy. That's the way to go
If trade the Panthers pick twice if I were Chicago you can win with Fields
You cannot keep him. He’s had enough games, he is what he is. You’re not winning anything with him. If you pass on Williams and he ends up being unbelievable, you will never get over it. If somehow Williams busts, nobody can blame you for taking him.
Is he a good enough passer? Do you watch the games! Drake Maye? Man Maye isnt anywhere near Fields coming out of college. Nor is Williams or anyone else.
They should. The end.
Keep fields and get a haul for the first, Max Crosby and the raiders 1st and 2nd. And their 1st next year also
💯
Pls Bears. Keep Fields and let Caleb come home to DC.
Keep Justin Fields! Wipe the slate clean, hire Jim Harbaugh let him bring in his staff of coaches. Trade down a little on the draft get a hall! Two or three years the Bears will be in the Superbowl! Enough said!
@timothygonzales4145 yeah ppl hear what they want to hear with their cult Harbaugh mentality.
It’s crazy to me. That nobody points out the teams around the “great QBs”. Honestly fields number 1 receiver was Mooney his 1st 2 season wtf he suppose to do? This year he really only had DJ. Who’s sitting at 1300 yards with one more game. And cmon…. The play calling on offense was 🗑️. I’m no expert but that’s my opinion. We easily should’ve closed out 2-3 of these losses. Poor coach again imo. Build the team damn. 🤣🤣 Get Caleb he gone need one too. I feel better players will help you develop. Look at Purdy.
You scared
Can’t move forward if your always starting over
You just know theyre getting rid of Fields. If he wins this game against GB on Sunday it's a lock, hes definitely gone.
Keep feilds draft Marvin Harrison jr
Bears need Michael Penix Jr.. Penix Jr already has more pocket presence than Justin Fields, can read defenses better, more accurate, looks like an NFL quarterback.
I think Penix will be a better pro, too, and I'm a huge Justin Fields fan. I grew up about 20 minutes from where he's from and a UGA grad. Huge fan. I just think Penix has that feel for the game that you either have it or you don't. He will definitely have some 400 + passing yard games that will blow your mind.
The Bears have quietly been gaining steam. If they beat GB, the band is staying together. Mark it.
i agree with this! this game on sunday has more of an impact on the decision making during the off-season than people realize.
@@MicTorrance I politely disagree. I think everybody is back regardless of Sunday's result. I think Poles has already made that decision and is getting ready for the draft.
@@davidwoerner126 Either way I love it, I think retaining Fields is the answer.
Fields is great the OC is a rookie at his job and he scary, Getsy came into the Bears organization talking about being a run heavy team. The problem is and has always been Nagy and Getsy.
Don’t stop before the miracle happens is a recovery saying.
Think he holds the spot for longest time to throw a pass at like 3.4 seconds.
No matter how much you improve on that till it's the best it can be, it will never be much better than it currently is.
He can't process the field quickly and it was a known problem in the wonderlic
Getting him faster receivers would be a disadvantage as they would hit their spot way before he could process throwing the rock to them.
His stats absolutely suck.
Smoking jay cutler stayed 8:8 and always lead the nfl in top 10 stats, touchdowns, yards, qbr etc.
Justin has been statistically the worst quarterback in the league since being drafted.
I think his debut game had him at -3 passing yards.
keep Justin Fields someone will get him and turn him into a Great quarterback! He is as good as Maholmes he showing you!!!!!
You're losing your job if you move off Justin, and the draft pick sucks. Better to stick with Justin, who was getting better each week.
If they move on from Fields now they will lose that locker room on the same day and Chicago will be rebuilding for another 4 years at least
Like all the guys that quit when Roquan Mack and Quinn got traded?
Keep Fields, do not pick up his 5th year option! Dump Getsy. Trade the #1 pick for a 1st and 2nd round pick this year, a 1st round in 2025 and a stone cold player from the team the Bears are trading with( I'm looking at you Devonte Adams/Max Crosby). Still with 2 first round picks, the Bears should go with the Pacific Islander pass rusher from UCLA or Chop Robinson(?) from Bama. With the second round pick, it's Xavier Watts, a safety from Notre Dame, the 2023 Bronko Nagurski award winner in case Eddie Jackson doesn't make it. All they need after that is a center and Bamn, done.

Yeah Ryan leaf says lol
keep fields trade down grab marvin harrison , get your team build up to make a run
They need a new OC if it’s going to work with Fields

Let me ask a question?? What happens if u let fields go to another team and he then wins a super bowl. How safe is poles job now??? Bahaaha! Yeah it’s like that.😮
Any smart GM would take those odds.
That’s unlikely to happen anyway
Is Leaf on work release? When did he get out?
Yea. Let’s keep fields! Even tho he’s not even close to as good as love…. Smart. As a bears fan it wouldn’t feel right if we didn’t lose 90% of the time to GB. Has to be the dumbest fanbase.
Poles is taking a QB at 1
Pay him 40-50 mil hhhhhmmmmm good luck with that.😂
Really Ryan?! A freaking Cats sweatshirt? You’re a G. falls boy. Smh! Go Griz!
If the GM and all his professional qb evaluaters think Caleb is a generational talent then you make the pick. All i can say is when i went and watched some games i wasnt blown away by what i saw. Plus if you think about it... talent wise i don't think there's that much of a difference in all these quarterbacks. I think it comes down to the heart and mind. You see what Mat Nagy is doing to Mahomes. JF basically wasted a year of development with Nagy
He’s not a generational talent. They throw that term around too much. They said Trevor Lawrence was generational but he’s just been ok. The generational quarterback was Andrew Luck.
If you get rid of a proven qb In Justin and Caleb is a bust you lose your job anyway
The bears kept bob avellini for 9 years let’s take a look at his numbers 33 touchdowns and 69 interceptions 😂
I have something worse than that. The Atlanta Falcons kept a below average Matt Ryan for 14 seasons and got nothing but a choked away Super Bowl that any MVP quarterback should have easily won. And the running game is what took them to that one SB. Not Matt Ryan. and Falcons fans call him the goat. 😂😂😂
You have some ball knowledge
100%, fields has already shown he can play good football. Why draft a guy who might be better. Bird in the hand and all
He's as bad as Zach wilson lol...
Exactly to me they are the same QB
Keep fields. He's showing excellence right now. He threw some amazing dimes in that ATL game that not many could throw. We ditch our QB's fast. Ride with Justin. Take more first round picks and shore up this team.
Yeah -- he beats up on bums just like Mitch did.
Smoking CRACK is bad for you. How do you ignore 10-28 record ? That's worse than Mac Jones🤦
You're also betting your job on drafting a rookie QB . . . trading down and putting play-makers around Fields would be the right strategy . . . but it's just my 2 cents.
Poles is risking his job also if they trade Fields and the next qb is a bust while Fields gets better with another team. Keeping Fields and building the team is the smarter move
There are 3 rookies in this class right now that will give you more in the air on schedule than Justin Fields. Their scouts know this.
@@Ebonysails there is no guarantee of "more in the air" esp without a good oline and playcalling. They said the same thing about Bryce Young last year and hundreds of other qbs before. College passing numbers dont mean immediate success in the pros, esp if you got a bad line, weak receivers, and bad coaching. Take any 3 and replace them with Fields first 3 years given his team and coaching, not to mention a full tank. None of them would be as good as he is right now.
Whole Sports Nation think Bears should keep Justin
I hope they keep him :) He still has a bit of work to do with his happy feet at the top of his drop. Thats frustrating and leads to a lot of his overthrows.

Yet when Fields has a good game, few and far between, he manages to overcome all those obstacles?
No coincidence that most of those performances come against terrible teams, like Washington, Arizona etc..
His best game, against a statistically good defense was against Atlanta.
