    Just a testament to Toyota greatness. The chuckle after "if you wanna pick this up" and then "if you wanna buy it" was classic Kevin, and hilarious. I never keep vehicles for as long as that, but if I were inclined to do so, the 4Runner is at the top of that list. Keep em coming. It was Toyota that sent me to Lexus, I just think they are the best, I guess that's fanboy style, if so I accept the crown.

    I just got a 2003 4Runner SR5 V8 4wd with 200k on the clock for $1500. Front driveshaft snapped and put a hole in the transfer case. I removed front shaft and drove it around in rear wheel drive, smooth as could be. Dropped the t-case and going to open it up, check for damage/metal, and weld the hole up. I'm going to do the timing belt, new tires, new headlamps, and a few interior trim pieces. It's a really solid machine, excited to bring it back to life!

    4Runners are just absolute tanks for eternity~ You can take this 2003 4Runner off road today, and it would still not be a problem for that car. The engine is dead reliable, still very smooth, very nice to drive, this 2003 4Runner still got the looks. I know a lot of people prefer the look of this 4Runner compared to the current one, but all 4Runners look hella badass.

    Great review as always man. I am in the market for one. The V8 has a timing belt and the V6 has a chain. Added maintenance cost there to consider every 90k miles. Also, if it breaks, this motor is an interference motor unlike the previous gen motor. Expensive situation :(.

    • @kftc1980
      @kftc1980 Рік тому

      That conventional wisdom about timing chains Vs timing belts is a little misleading. How often does the water pump get changed when there is a timing chain instead of a belt? (Hint, after it fails) Do the timing chains last forever? Are they as easy to DIY? Do they not have their own issues that cost money to fix, like bad guides? The V8 will outlive the V6 as long as the timing belt gets done. Also, it is a pretty easy job to do at home with a few special tools that aren’t expensive, you just have to follow all the steps. Toyota doesn’t make things that complicated. If you’re going to drive vehicles that are over 10 years old it makes sense to learn to maintain them yourself.

    • @nordicpride9708
      @nordicpride9708 Рік тому

      @@kftc1980 Very well said Kevin. People act like they need to be a NASA engineer to change a timing belt on a V8 engine. Shits not that complicated. As you said, proper tools, take your time and life is good!

    Apparently the V8 was only offered in the early years so they are highly sought after. Also the only downside to these cars is the X-REAS suspension system. It essentially links both shock absorbers reservoir from one corner to another like an X. Once it starts leaking you have to replace one entire part of the X (there's 2) and it's very expensive. Besides that these cars are supposed to be bulletproof. Good Review!

Anyone have any experience with these and can tell me if the difference in real world use is noticeable or significant? Basically is it worth the extra couple grand that I see them seem to go for.

      I am also looking. I believe you're correct on the 05. I remember someone commenting though if you needed to replace the engine, then you're limited to finding a 05 only motor. Also, V8 timing belt and the V6 has a chain so extra maintenance cost for the belt. The V8 is an interference motor. If it breaks then you will need a rebuild.
