At what age do you harvest the bsf?

If you like bugs/insects and you've wanted to raise and breed something and have an allergy to mealworms, then BSF is a fantastic choice.
The only downside to BSF indoors versus mealworms indoors, is having to have a breeding "cage" for the flies.
I'm using a gigantic half-filled aquarium of snails, shrimp, scuds, ostracods, dwarf killifish, springtails and have the surface of the water covered in water lettuce, water spangles and some duckweed and put the flies in there to mate and lay eggs to be collected.
Because of this, I have an excuse to use a lot of artificial light to grow the aquarium plants, which help clean the water and provide shelter for my small aquatic pets, which giving a landing surface for the BSF flies and access to water.
Yes they do lay eggs in the water and on the hoses and the corners and other places that I can't collect the eggs, but the fish can eat the larvae of the hatched eggs I couldn't collect, but they lay plenty of eggs that I CAN collect to keep it going for a small-scale hobby.
I also have to manually add the flies and manually remove the dead flies (or else they grow mold, which is unhealthy for everything and the springtails don't even want it).
However, my purpose is only to be able to always have BSF and this setup is working for me so far, so that is what counts.
If you can guarantee at least 1 female will lay a batch of eggs, you can always work on improving your setup.
If you do not get any females laying eggs, then you have to change the fly cage so that it works for them. (for outdoors in a humid environment, this is easier than indoors in a screen mesh cage with low humidity).
Also, because I am using the aquarium to create the humidity, I don't have to worry about adding humidity to my room, which could lead to mold growing on wooden furniture or the walls.

that's right sir, BSF is a fantastic choice. you can use strong smelling subtrates to attract BSF egg's
you can use the wood measuring 20 x 10 x 1 cm that has been stacked into four, five, or six is given a matchstick in between and tied with rubber at the end so that it leaves a small gap and place it on the attractan media . This small gap will be used by BSF to lay its eggs .

I have a bin of many many thousands of BSF larvae on my computer desk (again) and it makes me soo happy.
For those that don't know, if you have exactly 50% males, 50% females and all of them breed and if they lay an average of 500 eggs each,
then you can basically look at how many larvae you have today and multiply it by a theoretical 250x (since the males don't lay eggs, so half the larvae population).
So if you have 10 larvae today, 5 males, 5 females and all 5 pairs breed and the females each lay an average of 500 eggs, that gives you 2,500 eggs.
So if you have 10,000 larvae today, 5,000 males, 5,000 females and all 5 thousand pairs breed and the females each lay an average of 500 eggs, that gives you 2,500,000 eggs.
So if you have 10,000,000 larvae today, 5,000,000 males, 5,000,000 females and all 5 million pairs breed and the females each lay an average of 500 eggs, that gives you 2,500,000,000 eggs.
They are very rewarding in that aspect.
Therefore, all you need is 1 female to lay eggs and you can scale that up to an unlimited amount over several generations.
However, I would recommend starting with more than 1 pregnant female, for genetic diversity or try to get a male or female later on to add some genetic diversity.
You could also start with at least 2 batches of eggs from someone who is raising them on a large scale or just buy/obtain a small amount from a 2nd source.
I do not know if it matters for this species, but it never hurts and can only benefit.

I could see that your breeding place are not protected from the rain.
Does it mean that rain does not affect eggs and larvae production?

my breeding place protected from the rain, bcause the rain really affects BSF productivity, especially egg productivity.

When you say that one square meter of biopods is producing ten kilograms of mature larvae, is that per cycle or per day? Essentially, if you had 100 square meters of trays/biopods, feeding properly, is that 100 square meters yielding 1000 kilograms of larvae harvested every day?

10kg of maggots per square meter per cycle is a big lie maybe 5kg is acceptable
