I have a dream. AnCo will release a great album that includes a killer version of Defeat. Some up and coming director will include this song in an academy award movie and everyone will fall in love with Animal Collective and everybody lives happier ever after
Parts of this remind me of Song for Jerome that Avey played on his solo tour in 2011. Was going to be on Down There but was unforunately left off. I still hope we can get an official release of it one day.
@@RedHeadedRage Very true. They just released albums and projects less often between like -2010- (supposed to be strikethrough/crossed out but YT is being dumb I guess) 2011 to 2016, at least as far as I can tell; I always find myself surprised by uncovering music from them that I've never heard, outside their main discography. I could be wrong.
@@mikeexits a lot of that time was spent on solo work and Oddsac, but seriously if you haven’t heard Deakins album Sleep Cycle bro that was the highlight of that era of anco for sure
@@RedHeadedRage everyone sleeps so hard on PW. I get subjective taste and all that, but that album is great and their live tour was insane for that era.
I'm not the biggest or the smallest fan of when people yell during concerts, but that "no" from that human was On Point and might make this recording my favorite live version of this song.
I think I like the presentation of the original version the most, but the vocal effects at the beginning of this one are amazing. This is the original I'm talking about btw: ua-cam.com/video/kwOCFL8YZo0/v-deo.html
I really hope the studio version is more like the Music Box version. If they find a middle ground between these 2 styles that could be pretty amazing. I do like the autotune on the vocals in this one. Gotta bring back the strings in that middle section though.
Agreed. Especially in the Music Box version, Avey sings the first part in kinda more melodic tempo. Also that part has strings too. I do like these spacey tunes but Music Box version is better.
i actually think this version is 10 times better than the music vox version except the middle. the first and third part are miraculous combinations of every style they have visited over the years. the harmonies, the new lyrics and the closing chords elevate it to beyond alvin row level.
@@dendyxyz After many listens I have to agree. I got too used to the music box version to accept this one at first. But I do feel like this version has more emotion in it. Middle part is still a little off. I still hope the studio version is more complex and more layered with sounds. This song is great but still a little too bare bones for my liking.
This may be bad to say but to the person who said this is "like loch Raven" it's exactly loch Raven. Like the vocal.melodies at 6+minute part are hitting the same notes. Not bad but like chopped and screwed loch raven
Disagree, they are somewhat similar, but this is more of an epic track with different parts, experiments with autotune, more audible lyrics, different synth.
this is actually nothing like loch raven. u high bro. one is a repetition upon a mantra and literally has one synth part and one percussion part and this is a 22 minute long multi-sectioned suite

lets try to be reasonable
Thats a beautiful dream
@not me you can't help but conjure up images to it.
They just released the studio version 3 years after your comment. The vinyl has a limited release as well. New album and most likely a tour soon. 😶
If only you knew...
A victory for music.
This show was absolute magic. I'll never forget it.

These guys are legit back
This is amazing
They never left

I regret not recording this song, but you made it happen! Thank you so much for uploading a high quality of this masterpiece!!
Heyoooo!
@@jordanabaca Omg hi! It’s been a loooooong time! 😆
There’s another good recording of it on UA-cam but I haven’t found others so far
this whole thing will also pass
This is on the "play it at my funeral" list.
Thanks for uploading this! Best concert of my life and this was my favorite song.

The cover photo was taken in Tucson, Az at The Rialto theatre
listening to this before time skiffs drops i’m so excited and i hope this makes it onto an album soon
I didn't realize they were working on new material!

I’m not digging the new drum structure for the second part of the song. I prefer the cymbal crashes from the Music Box version.

just one song.

No I understand, i feel like this song has all the emotional qualities of a loch raven / banshee beat but just way more epic
Please don't ever delete this, This version is better than their official release especially Noah's singing during the chorus.
