    Hello Cris, I have only had a Z7ii from December 2020, and for the first two or three months only had the FTz adapter and shot with PC-elense from the 19mm, 24m and 85mm no problems at all in fact with focus peeking so nice to use. I have also use the FTz Adapter with both my PF lenses that's the 300mm F4 and the 500mm F5.6 work like a dream. and I now have some Z mount glass as well so I am more the happy with Nikon. Keep well, keep safe and enjoy life.

    I just got into the z system a few months ago and loving it. Bought the ftz adapter as I wanted to use the 85mm f1.4G lens. Love that lens but discovered something pretty cool about the ftz adapter and the voightlander 58mm f1.4 lens. The lens is manual focus but it’s chipped so it will record exiif data like the aperture settings and the lens itself. What I really like is that I can use the lens in aperture priority and use the camera to set the aperture rather than the manual ring. From what I understand voightlander made a few other lenses for the old Nikon mount that are designated as SL that also have the same features. I do like the adapter and like yourself some old manual ai lenses that I can just pop on and go instead of fiddling with manual adapters. I’m investing in more of the af-s g lenses as the z glass is a bit overpriced. Like you I also have the 50mm f1.8z lens. The only z glass I have right now….anyhow that lens is bitingly sharp with no visible aberrations. It’s just about perfect and I wouldn’t get rid of it. When I want sharp I have that lens. It does lack character though and shallow depth of field. Hence the voightlander 58mm F1.4. It’s sublime full of character with a 3D rendering that really is beautiful. If you haven’t tried it I highly recommend it. Question for you as you say you’re a long time Nikon user…. I’m building out my Nikon kit and was considering the Nikon 58mm f1.4g lens. I love the 85mm f1.4g. Is the 58 worth the money ? Love that voightlander 58mm but it’s manual focus which I enjoy but still need autofocus for certain paid work. Used they seem to be about $1k which about what I paid for the 85 and don’t regret it. Your thoughts if you have ever used it? Also looking at the 35mm f1.4g to round out the basics. Loved your video. I just subscribed and looking forward to viewing more of your content 👍

    • @CrisConstantin
      @CrisConstantin  3 роки тому

      First thank you for sub and watching. I really appreciated it. Now, for the Voigt 58mm is an amazing lens, but only from what I’ve heard. Never used it but it’s on my radar. As for the 50mm I have the G not the S, but I am super happy with the results like I mentioned. The S is very sharp indeed from what I saw, but never tested it. So, again about the Voigtlander I can’t say much, you should do more research. Hope to have you around for my next videos and I am glad you enjoyed this one. Many to come. Be safe👍

  • @MattisProbably

    I got the adapter together with my Z50 as a bundle.
    Never had any issues with it. My Tamron 70-200/2.8 G2 needed a software update to work with Z mount cameras but I have the USB dock for that so no problem there.
    AF speed is identical to my previous D7100 but the focus is more accurate. The shots are sharper compared to the D7100 and I get more sharp shots in total.
    My Sigma 100-400/5-6.3 works well with the adapter, too.
    Though I recently replaced that lens with the Nikkor 200-500/5.6E and that is a great combination as well!
    Right now I just really hope that the new Z 200-600mm that's on Nikon's roadmap won't cost the same as the 200-500/5.6E because then I will have instant buyer's remorse 😅Though I expect a price around 2000 to 2500 bucks which would be beyond my budget.

    Very good video! I have some F-mount lenses that I have no plan to get rid of. The FTZ adapter has not been a problem at all for me. I’ve shot weddings, events, and portrait sessions. • @CrisConstantin
      @CrisConstantin  2 роки тому

      That’s weird but not unexpected. It might be a fw update that you need to do. If not that test the 50 on a dslr (might be contacts issue) also of other lenses the same age as the 50 work well is definitely a contacts problem. You can wipe them with high grade alcohol and a microfiber cloth lightly. Maybe just an accumulation of dirt…it’s hard to tell if I am
      not having the lens and adapter in front of me.
      It may also be a faulty adapter if does that regularly with other lenses as well. (Fwiw try to tighten it all the way on the z mount, sometimes is not going fully to a complete rotation). Hope this helps. Let us know. 👍

    The 105mm 1.4 E lens is even better on the Z camera than it was on the DSLR's. It has the same great IQ and character but now with edge to edge focusing points and 3 axis stabilization - where it had none before - also focus is virtually as fast - might be worth buying it again if you do a lot of portrait work or just use/like this focal length.

      I can second that, it works fine with the Tamron 70-200 as long as it is the G2 version. The native lens is a much better lens, but if you can't afford the upgrade it works as well as it does on a DSLR.

      It totally depends on the style and genre. For weddings and even team sports is accurate enough, for me. I don’t mind 3 out of 10 oof shots if the other 7 are tack sharp. It’s not the OEM so don’t expect 100% rate. I learned that over the years and I make my choices accordingly. I am not shooting burst, only if I need to. Good input, thanks for watching.

  • @jtes1442

    Not sure what the regret is. You complained about issues that you say don't necessarily affect you? I've used the FTZ in various hot places and it has never overheated on me. I've used in Florida, Jordan, and Ghana for extended periods of time in the heat without issue. The main problem that seems to keep coming up is how it mounts onto tripods, but that can be easily remedied by a L plate with a FTZ cut out. Small rig has a good selection for that. Lastly FTZ doesn't affect weather sealing. Especially if the lens already has a gasket.

    Back then when I started out over four decades ago with a F2A, Nikon didn't have a huge AI lens collection either, it takes time. Even after I bought the D3 back in 2008, there weren't that many AF-S G lenses optimized for it.
    As far as the FTZ (beside its design), I'm fine with it adapts my lens trinity and other G lenses. Of course, I'm just an enthusiast. As for my older manual lenses from the film days, I don't use them that much. Now, I added a Z 50 f/1.2 S and also adapted my creamy EF 85 f/1.2 L II and other Canon lenses.

  • @therealchickentender
    @therealchickentender 2 роки тому

    FTZ is certainly nice for long-time Nikon shooters, but it is not necessarily a great idea for those coming to Nikon fresh. If you're adapting legacy glass, there are obviously some good Nikkors but not worth the $200-250 USD price tag to adapt them. The AF and other contact points aren't necessary and you can make do with much simpler adapters.
    And that said, there are so many less expensive and oftentimes far better pieces of glass that are waiting to be adapted ahead of the Nikkors.... Topcon, Hexanon, Voigtländer, Takumar, etc etc. Mirrorless is the legacy glass savior and needn't be limited to Nikon's of the past. There's other gorgeous stuff to be had.
