IMO these studies have issues: Study 1. "Partial range of motion training elicits favorable improvements in muscular adaptations when carried out at long muscle lengths" - Done on untrained women. - Does not elucidate the starting points of the participants in absolutes, only the delta in percentage. This is IMO improper reporting for a study on muscle hypertrophy as it is well established that there are variances in muscle growth potential based on various pre-existing factors. It is therefore possible that the "Partial" groups, by chance, had participants who were undersized. They repeatedly refer to these values only in deltas. I find any papers who hide data behind deltas to be very suspect. - The weight used by the participants was determined by the 1 rep max specific to each ROM. The issue I see here is that it leaves the possibility that long length partials are not better at hypotrophy, but just better at allowing untrained individuals to achieve a higher (or "Truer") one rep max. This would then lead the full ROM group to train sub-optimally due to under measured 1 Rep max. (This too is another issue that could have been alleviated by publishing more of the underlying data). -What this study does show with more certainty is that different ROMs causes differences in the distribution of muscles growth and strength across the muscle/ROM. This will be important later. Study 2. "Partial Range of Motion Exercise Is Effective for Facilitating Muscle Hypertrophy and Function Through Sustained Intramuscular Hypoxia in Young Trained Men" - This study fixes a few of the problems of the first. Primarily, they tested on trained individuals and do provide the absolute values of data. - One new problem however, is if one pays attention to Table 1. does no one find it strange that the Partial ROM group gained 1.2kg of LBM while the Full Range of Motion group only gained 0.6? This is HIGLY unlikely to be due to the intervention as a simple plausibility analysis would find gaining an additional 0.6kg of only triceps mass in 8 weeks is unlikely based on the changes observed in cross sectional area. This could suggest that the Partial ROM group was performing additional exercise or were in some other way superior to the Full ROM group outside of the intervention in question, thus lending doubt to the strength of the results. - Taking into account the prior study showing that different ROMs affect the distribution of hypertrophy, this study thus has a failing in that they only measured the delta CSA in one location on the triceps. It is very possible that different areas would show different results. The first study also does not invalidate this concern, as its absolute results are unreliable thus one cannot use that to draw conclusions that Partial ROM is superior in all locations. Only that ROMs affect distribution in some way. - The force results in Table 3 also sufferers from the issue that the methodology used only required the participants to use a ROM up to the maximum in the Partial ROM group (90 degrees). As shown in the previous study, the ROM used in training effects the resulting changes in force/strength. With the ROM used in training experiences the largest gains. It is therefore, possible that if the force generation test used a full ROM, the results might have been more even or biased towards full ROM. Study 3. "Greater Gastrocnemius Muscle Hypertrophy After Partial Range of Motion Training Performed at Long Muscle Lengths" - Essentially the same intervention done in Study # 2 but even less convincing as it uses untrained individuals. Sufferers from the same issues with lack of varied CSA measurements which renders the results unreliable. Does provide more evidence that differences in ROM have different effects on the progression of volume load. Conclusion: Taken together, id hypothesize that what partial ROM exercises do, is focus the hypertrophy and strength gains upon a smaller range of motor units, thus "min-maxing" the training results upon the ROM used. Basically, if you train with a partial ROM, you'll get good at doing partial ROMs, and your muscles will grow to support that at the expense of the other portions of the ROM/muscle. This also makes more logical "laymen's" sense. I suspect that results showing partial ROMs are influenced by poor methodology. Primarily a lack of varied muscle CSA measurement points and control of training volume load, inside and outside of the intervention. Anecdotal evidence of partials providing a positive influence on hypertrophy, I hypothesize, could be explained by partials allowing novice lifters the ability to approach their true failure point more or by the fact that partial ROMs appear to allow for greater total Volume Load, E.G. by adding additional reps to the end of a lift. It would be interesting to see a repeat of Study 1 (which I found to have the best breadth of measurements and best methodology) using the parameters of Study 2 regarding participant selection and data disclosure.
The thing with long-length partials is that for presses people, Sam Sulek included, cut OUT the long length part and dont go into the deep stretch. They dont aim to do LLP but just have a shitty ROM that happens to be LLP in some exercises

Another day I’m glad that my gym has no influencers 🙏
That girl in the shoulder press might be acting but if you're in a similar situation just ask to work in. Approaching someone with hostility from the get is good for no one.
you _used_ to be able to do that...now chances are if they're under 30 they have no idea its feasible to SHARE the equip. esp if you go to one of those "wipe everything down with 100 sprays every 5 minutes" gyms like i do. its about 1/4 time i can convince someone to share. used to be it was impossible to say no.
Watch Dr.Milo Wolf for more on long partials, i prefer them for skull crushers for sure; don't get that weird elbow feel
First guy literally said trust me bro😂😂
I found your channel completely at random after just enjoying an hour or so of competitive Olympic lifting highlight videos. At which point, UA-cam apparently decided that all l now want to see is muscle and fitness related content. Anyway, let me just say that you have had me in stitches for 45 minutes straight, and you have a new subscriber, and l haven't been in a gym in 16 years (I was very fit at one time), but now l want to go join a gym again, not for the need to make myself beautiful, but just to throw a few weights around while soaking up all the low cost comedy.
Influencers are the very reason I attend a gym that doesn't allow cameras but if they did allow them I'd give the influencers a whole bunch of views of me kicking the camera across the gym into the nearest wall
that last clip was at my gym, that's awesome
Always these people who come into your picture, really unbelievable!
The only time the cameras come out is when sometime tries to hit a PR they’ve been working towards for a while. Really inspirational stuff.
I can't stop rewinding to the beginning and then tapping left to make it like a song
Ah yes. Waking up to a new video from James is a great way to start the week!
That last guy, "I don't know what I do". Well that's part of the problem.
Every time I see a gym “influencer” it solidifies the justification for why I own a home gym. Now the only idiot in the gym is me.
8:04 ? That’s literally the process of going to failure, right before failure. Lol
@3:53 this is actually an edited video, she only said the bottom lines, the top lines were added by another influencer calling her out, it's clear seeing as the top and bottom texts are completely different fonts
Puregyms are great for progressive overload of your sense of patience
As a phd organic chemist the comment that it has an HPLC analysis was priceless 😂😂😂😂
Yay, I was starting to worry about you.
I’ve taken Turk 3 different times for about 3 months at a time and can def see a noticeable difference in strength gains and slight size improvements. Could all be placebo but if def has an effect for me so it’s worth the $60 I paid on Amazon for those 90 days.
3:53 Just want to point out that those captions weren't in the original video, some tiktoker added them as ragebait. The original video was innocuous and just had "POV: you go to a Puregym at 6pm" without the complaints about no respect.
I actually like it when people interrupt me in between sets. If they're rude, I play it cool and use my emotional response to help lift heavier. If they're cool, I move off faster and hit some super sets.
Hilarious like always, love your contwnt man
It's funny that being actually influenced into training by "gym influencers" could lead to your first heart attack
great episode..
Hey Shredded, have you done any research on peptides like ipameralin, tesameralin, serameralin, bpc-157, tb-500 etc?
All this online nonsense will end one day. It is a mathematical certainty.
Thank you James!
Some gym needs to adapt the lunk alarm idea for influencers. A big ass siren goes off when anyone starts filming. There has to be a market for it.
I’m so grateful I was able to spend years upon years in the gym late with no one around.
T house where truly the best times of my life.
Late night runs and weights sessions.
I couldn’t do it these days with all the idiots.
Natural Gallant Bodybuilding has been doing lengthened partials for over twenty years, he appreciates science finally catching up.
I love doing the long legth partials at the end of my fulll ROM set to squeeze out a little more work
I actually like to do those partial movements. like nippard says on my last set I like to just push out as much as I can even if it isn't full range.
Hey James, not sure if you'll see this, but someone made a "caffeinated gummy" that recently rolled into the industry. It's called "focusfuel" and they have their own website for this product, but as you stated in your previous videos, about being skeptical on these kinds of products before purchasing. Another aspect is if there is actual research to support their claims instead of it being marketed as a "caffeinated gummy."
I really would love to see a segment in your future videos talking and analyzing the ingredients if it's at a good dose or underdosed based on the key ingredients. I'm not a nutritionist expert but I would love to see it from the expert such as yourself!
People have forgotten the phrase "Do you mind if I work in". Do your exercise and standup, rest, exercise again, stand up, repeat. Gym culture has gone to @#$@
“I really need to use this machine” have these people not heard of working in?
Respect the camera? 😂😂😂
V-shredding-your-money ad 😆😂😂
partials are great for after the full range of motion exercise. do the full range first, and when ur too weak to crank out some full range, do some partials. works better in my opinion but im no expert
Yeah it works
People who can't just wait to take a picture when no one is in the shot lol
Mocking people walking on a treadmill in a gym has got to be a new low by these influencer clowns.
1:52 I can't stress this enough: you always spot DB by de wrist!!
When influencers become confrontational with other would-be influencers, it's like the snake that eats its own tail. We've reached peak influencer saturation.😂😂😂
6:16 You're here to work, not be on Instagram and stuff like me right now in the gym.
I like the guy that calls out other for bad gym behavior when people are just going about their business. I also liked that last guy's attitude. What the other guy was doing was funny.
Regarding the fake press gal wanting the machine, whatever happened to “hey, would you mind if I work in?” If it’s that busy I feel it’s a perfectly acceptable thing to ask.
