Incredible video! Not only did you sum up the intended Lies of P experience perfectly but you also nailed the combat and appreciate the nuances of the mechanics. I am usually disappointed with gameplay in most reviews and video essays but yours are so well done. I put 365 hours into Sekiro, 150 into Bloodborne (so far), 195 into Elden Ring and over 400 into the other Darksouls games combined. Lies is up there with Sekiro for combat and nothing else comes close as far as Souls likes in my opinion. As an overall experience over 180 hours and 8 playthroughs with 2 more in the future for sure, Lies of P was honestly one of the the best gaming experience I have ever had. The story and how it changes so much over new game plus runs was genius and enthralling all of the way through. So many incredible bosses that get better the more that you fight them. Lies is an absolute masterpiece Thank you for the video. I liked and subscribed after just 9 minutes. Keep up the amazing work and congratulations on the content
I love this game. i would easily replay this before any Fromsoft game except maybe Bloodborne. There are a ton of Souls likes out there but Lies of P is the first one that absolutely drips polish from every pore. The combat feels so tight and fair and has even more accurate hit boxes than any Fromsoft game. When you first start, it feels like you are being led to try and perfect guard everything like it's Sekiro but you really have multiple options at any time. It is so fun and adaptable to learn how to weave dodges, blocking, guard regain, and perfect guards together for offense and defense. The soundtrack is phenomenal even without the records which are even better and the atmosphere is as potent as Bioshock or Bloodborne. I also had a bunch of items sitting in my inventory, much like when i play Souls games but that is a huge error in Lies of P. The throwable items in particular have huge range, perfect accuracy, and they inflict statuses on enemies much quicker than the grinder does. Shot puts also instantly stagger any bosses with the staggerable window. The cube is also insanely useful, especially if you get the "Quick Wishstone Use" ability in the P Organ upgrades. Lots of stamina, healing your spectre, all sorts of cool effects. It is very much like this game's version of the Flask of Wondrous Physik in Elden Ring.
this game isnt as perfect as Sekiro to me or as impressive as Elden Ring but its like the most based soulslike out there. really hope to see more from these devs in the future
What really stuck with me was that this was the devs first crack at a soulslike and it was this great. Super exciting to see where they go next because I loved Lies of Peak
Great review! I just finished watching the review you did on Sekiro and now you post this! Lies of P is my favorite souls game ever, even including FromSoft games. Sekiro stands on the podium as a tie.
Great review! Really enjoy your channel and what you put into to each video. I came out of Lies Of P enjoying the hell out of it. Oh and that damn OST is amazing! Take care and I can't wait to see what's next.
Fantastic review. One other thing I like about the game is the characters you mentioned aren't the only ones that came from the novel. The Black Rabbit Brotherhood being a boss and holding a coffin was brilliant. There's also the owl doctor who's such an obscure character from the novel and they made him a little bit more important in the game. This game was in my top 3 for souls games period. I absolutely love this game. It polished up some things that From Software hasn't and the atmosphere is perfect.
On release the game was significantly harder than any fromsoft game bar Sekiro, but whining streamers got it nerfed to the ground within the first two weeks
To be honest, I don’t understand why everyone compares this game to bloodborne. The only things that really stand out as bloodborne inspired are some of the boss movesets. The combat plays & feels nothing like bloodborne, and although they are both set in 19th century Europe, the tone and atmosphere are wildly different. Also in regard to your dislike of the weapon degradation system, imo it’s really not that bad and adds an extra layer of tension to the fights which I enjoy. Besides, there are p organ upgrades to help mitigate weapon decay, that speed up the grinding process, and venignis urgent repair tool is a consumable that fully repairs your weapon near instantly.
Cheers to this video. I just purchased tonight on steam sale. Anyone: Should I start with Str, Dex or balanced first? I plan to start playing tomorrow.
I admired the effort, but there was something missing in the combat at the start. Couldn't get into it, though I've been wanting to give it a second try.
the story makes it really worth playing, personally i really like the gameplay but i kept beating boss because i am invested as to why i should keep going forward
Combat style and pretty weak hitbox deeply disturbed me. But I platiniumed the game after fully completed 3 runthrough. Atmosphere and the world created is signifant. The song "Quixotic" we listen at the hotel lobby worth all by itself....
I hard disagree with the idea that regular guarding is necessary or even more important than perfect guarding. I don't think I ever intentionally regular guarded. I either dodge or perfect guarded or accidentally regular guarded (missed perfect) everything in the game and I beat it three times, also.
Lies of p is great if you compare it the demon souls but it’s world lacks interest. Was bored during my 2nd play through because I discovered most during my 1st. The linear design needs to improve if you want to compare it with bloodborne
I saw another reviewer discussing the Perfect Guard timing, as it relates to the weapon itself. That the timing had something to do with the guard animation length: you'd have to tune it to the individual weapon you're using, and raise your guard with enough time to complete the block with that weapon. I dunno how accurate this is, exactly. Whether it is indeed a baked-in mechanic or no. But the advise was helpful nonetheless. Really helped me get the timing down.
I honestly think it’s because they kept updating the game because when you first played it, there was like a lot of enemies that were super tanky. They did an update and you were able to take out those enemies more easily. It was a lot more fair. Thay did a rolling on the ground update or something like that which you would have to unlock, they just make it a default thing so I think between all the updates that they did for quality of life may have adjusted peoples opinion on the games difficulty I haven’t played it in a while. I really updated a lot of stuff so maybe it’s easier now than it was.
If you don't use the summon help, it's pretty challenging. If you do use the summon help, it's pretty damn easy, and only a handful of bosses will still give you trouble. Moral of the story, it's a damn good game, play it for yourself and formulate your own opinion.
I've played it on release and recently, and it was a lot easier recently. It could be because it was my second run, but they did make a lot of changes to make the game feel better and make some of the bosses less tedious.
I think it is because this is one of those games where it 'clicks' at a certain point, like i have seen a lot of people say about Sekiro, and after it does, then the challenge becomes very doable. Personally, i have beat the game over 20 times, including multiple NG+ times and while the game is still very challenging, it is so much easier than my first time because the game taught me how to play it well, if that makes any sense.
Those who think it's a good game are losers who have been conned. It's completely scripted and linear. Want to attack an enemy or a boss the way that you want ?? Nope, the scripted coding says you can only do it a certain way in a certain hit window at a certain timing window. All these souls fanboys think it's OK to play a memory game learning the bosses move. It's lazy game designing. In good games you can take out the boss first go if you're good enough. And check out how long to takes just to pick up loot. WTF ?? The i-frames are just mini loading screens. The small stamina resources are a cheats way to make it difficult. The devs couldn't even design several difficulty settings like AAA games do ?! It's not worth the money for the short playing time, and there's no real replayability. The enemies are always in the same spot.

Close your eyes…..
the game has gone through MANY balance changes since release leading to inconsistency on how people perceive this games difficulty

The first 1:55 of this video hit hard and was extremely well written. I will definitely be chipping at this video throughout the day. Good job :)

Great review, you sold me on the game. Also, I would like to compliment your writing. Very good script, very well paced video.
You will not be disappointed it’s fire
Goat non from souls like

Better than most from games too. I didn't stutter
Excellent review! I hope more people get to play this hidden gem.
Cheers to this video. I just purchased tonight on steam sale. Anyone: Should I start with Str, Dex or balanced first? I plan to start playing tomorrow.
I only ever had to use the grindstone in ONE bossfight during NG+ and it was the Corrupted Parade Master who I killed 1st try in NG+.
I admired the effort, but there was something missing in the combat at the start. Couldn't get into it, though I've been wanting to give it a second try.

Better than Dark Souls 3 he says! Lol. Good review , but that was a truly hilarious assertion.
I don’t know why it is that so many older reviews of this game say it’s much harder than any Souls game, but now people are saying it’s easy.

I mean no shield and you can’t dodge spam I’d say it’s harder then any actual souls game but not Sekiro or bloodborne
