1:04 Tempest pressing 2D four times in a row in a video about decision making has me rolling

Amazing video! The mid-level players falling into the trap of playing the 'right way' definitely applies to me.
I thought I got better by switching to a more reactive playstyle but now a lot of advice I get is to rps more in neutral (like run up bringer).
Really thought provoking stuff, glad you decided to make more videos!

I happened to do really well in that one hbox tournament a few weeks ago and ever since I've been thinking a lot on *why* I played so good that day beyond the typical things like my health outside the game and just general tech skill stuff and you're absolutely right about the confidence in risk thing. By no means am I a top player or anything, but I'd like to believe that when I have that same kind of confidence in my own decisions I can really put the pressure on. What I think a major difference between people like me who are on the cusp of being a real, consistent threat in bracket and top players is I can't hit the domain expansion all the time while I feel like top players are always locked in even if they're having an off day. really good video

Hell yeah! Nice job doing well in the bracket!
Sometimes a bit of confidence and being on the ball is all it takes to go the distance fr ^^

i think you missed a real crucial talking point in this video which is that the reason why Top players are so confident to begin with is because theyve put in the work and got the results to gain that confidence.
theyve labbed and battle tested the scenarios they get put in to know that the options they pick will work, as opposed to a mid-low level player who is often just hitting the buttons and praying stuff will hit. the top player meanwhile commits to their actions with a degree of certainty behind it so they can focus less on "will this hit?" and more on the small adaptations needed to win the match. training mode goes a long way for them

I actually think its a bell curve.
Low level players have lots of confidence. Theres no stakes. Many people who just play and arent too great will play perfectly confident because they are just doin that - playing and having fun, just hitting buttons.
Its the intermediate players who arent confident because they get worried they have to do everything just right - praying theyre doing the right thing and over-labbing every niche scenario, thinking too much and then getting blown up by someone whos actually there living in the moment.
Many top players will play by feel far more often than youd expect. Sure they lab, but the reality is the amount of time spent on the game for the highest echelon of players is often much less than what the "high level but not quite able to make it" player thinks it is

@@SymbolistFGCbut thats exactly it- the reason why top players are able to commit their play down to feeling and instinct rather than having to overthink every situation is because, well, theyve been there before. they know the optimal answer to the situation theyre in, they know what to do to respond to an adapting opponent because theyve put the time in, and after being in that situation a couple times, inputting the proper response becomes muscle memory. the mid level player meanwhile still is working on getting to that point because they havent practiced that scenario enough and it hurts them because theyre relying less on instinct.
