    For some styles, yes… the overtones are a benefit… twang, blues, blues rock.., heck yeah… but when you get into palm mutes… it’s annoying as crap! Or special moments where you need optimal control. On a PRS with a trem this is ideal! For me, it’s definitely about what sound you’re going for. I had thought of the heat shrink & was looking to see if anyone had better options. Superb video!

    This is the first time I've encountered a problem with tremblo springs vibrating and I have been playing Strats for years. My new PRS SE CUSTOM drones on C. At first it was pretty cool but after a while it became annoying. Thanks for the heads up about this easy fix.

    One thing I want to add to this conversation, a possible reason for springs being too noisy is the pickups are microphonic… so if this is the issue, heat shrink on the spring will only help “some”. Just wanted to toss that in too.

    Actually, this is totally true and I love the overtones and it is part of my sound. I actually added more springs, tightened them and I never use tremolo. Who knew???

    I might give this idea a try. I'v had many (and still have) many floyd or ibanez-floyd-like systems and while i'v always noticed the kind of ''spring reverb effect'', a recent aquisition has it enough to bother me. Does it change the feel/action of actually using the trem in any way? How though is the blue tubbing material is? Does it rip appart to pieces after a while? I'v seen a video of a guy using some rubber based liquid/paint like coating, it could be a more permanent solution? What do you think?

  • @ivanyokhna
    @ivanyokhna 4 місяці тому +1

    All tips are good, only to pay attention not to overheat tubing in shrinking process,cause it will make springs unstable and floyd would not come back to Zero in tuning stability.

    Thanks for posting. Ideally, Fender would supply some simple dampening material when you purchase a guitar new - instead of letting owners solve issues like this themselves.

    • @Bikedueder
      @Bikedueder Рік тому +1

      Definitely, right? some clear rubber tubing from the hardware store heated up and slipped over would probably work wonders, and would cost them less than it does for us,. They would pass the savings onto us at some point. They should do more, but will only go so far with the price point looming over them.

    Make sure it's not string ring before the nut...
    In my opinion the springs
    Give a slight reverb synonymous to strats.
    I found putting 3 springs in a triangle formation reduced the reverb .
    Had strats for 40 years

    Got any tips for getting rid of annoying non-spring noises on Floyd rose bridges? After quieting out the springs I notice I have a resonation coming from the bridge itself. I suspect this is the bridge itself rattling against the post screws that it tensions against. I don't know the best way to quiet it. I was thinking some silicon washers or bushings. I do worry though that reducing the vibration transfer to the body will reduce the overall sustain of the guitar but the noise is so annoying I have to fix it.

    Try putting your springs in-line.No angles, your noise will be diminished. Then add some foam in springs to make it silent. 👍🎸

      @@addictedtogear Yeah with the two angled springs the center one does nothing.You could take the center one out , depending on your gauge of strings (9s) are the tops for two.

    Nicely done video and great info! One thing though to add: all three springs should be straight and not at an angle as shown. Logically the two slanted outside springs will have more tension than the middle one thereby causing it to rattle. Makes sense to me at least.

    Hey I guess my noise in guitar was caused by springs but only when I tuned the low E string to drop A and other strings was on standard tuning, is that possible to cause that when I detuned my guitar or to loosen the strings, it's only occur on the 6th sting when I palm muting when it was tuned to drop A but in standard E, it wouldn't make any noise

      Low frequenct rattling that's coming from the bridge itself and not the springs yes. I have this problem too. I'm thinking it's the bridge rattling against the post screws. my string tension is fine and I'm using 11s and tuned to D standard with flat wounds.

    I have an issue now bare warning i have no clue when it comes to the names of the strings etc but the ones that make the high pitch sounds at the botton when I try and finger tap on it it dosnt get picked up and if I play the low pitched strings first while its rining out the higher pitched strings dont get picked up I have tried messing around with the tone controls etc on the guitar itself and with these new strings it dosnt really make any change I dont know if this is just a normal things with strings because I have heard of people say new strings take a while to get worn to finally get the sound you want

    • @hospitalrevival

      I think it's more kind of dependant on how agressive your pickups are, wich tuning you're using and so on. My experience is that the lower tunings u use and the more agressive pick up's the more hearable is this issue. Of course you hear it more as well if you're a friend of high gain sounds.
      I recorded a few guitars with trem and you can hear it especially in records almost any time...
      But imho it's especially if you use the trem in hard rock/metal etc. where these factors get together always annoying if not damped ;)

  • @gerrittenberkdeboer7763
    @gerrittenberkdeboer7763 Рік тому +1

    Welllll...
    the tips are good...but...
    in a FENDER STRAT its just a part of the sound; like reverb springs.
    A floating bridge is killing sustain anyhow...so the twingeling and dangalang makes a strat less death.
    But i always check all the settings very very careful;
    b.t.w. its a endless story, cuz better GREASE every metal to metal moving parts...instead of muffling or tubing.
    Otherwise you mess up a perfekt Tuning ZERO..
