    A bit of trivia for my British friends: These aircraft fly for the Norwegian 332 squadron.
    331 AND 332 Squadron of the RAF during WW2 were designated Norwegian Sqdns. Both flew Spitfires both as fighter bombers and air superiority fighters from the UK from 1942 to the Normandie landing. Later they also flew cover for the freeing of the Netherlands and France on the continent.
    With gifted Spitfires post-WW2, the Norwegian Royal Air Force decided to honour their history under RAF command by instilling both 331 and 332 squads under the RNoAF. These Norwegian squadrons have since been set up with F-84 Thunderjet, North American F-86 Sabre, RF-5 Freedom Fighter and from 1980 the F-16 Fighting Falcon before the F35 went operational in 2022. Thus it has a rich history while honoring the war times flying for the allies under RAF command since 1942.
    Thus, Norway as a founding co-founder of NATO with the UK, US and friends has since then always flown US jetfighters - with squadron numbers honouring their RAF origins.
    The 331 squadron is currently disbanded (from 2022 when the F16 went out of service), but will also reappear later this year or early next year when we get our second F-35 squadron fully operational. Thus Norway again will fly both WW2 RAF squadrons. As a Norwegian, I very much appreciate this legacy and hope that some other fans of military aviation also enjoy this little drop of trivia about deep history between very old friends.

    A day of note from last friday F35 by the dozen. Ohh yeahhh. Norwegian F35s came out too play. Plus the formidable F15 strike eagle. All sounding Cooaaarrrr! I do love standing there watching, feeling those re-heats going off. What an afternoon of mayhem. 48FW did us proud. Them take off's into quick climbs with 2 in shot are magnificent. One of my favourite shots of all. It never stopped.
    Look at them 6:30!! Itching to take off.. Your camera work is brilliant Nikos! Ted brought it for us. Luck of the Ted!
    Wont forget the day in a hurry!! Smiling all the way home oii oii

    great video! i loved watching them climb so fast! my family has a cabin in ørland, right next to the airfield, so they come in for landing almost right above our cabins and its fan-frickin-tastic! :D perfect for "birdwatchers".. i can stand and watch for hours as they fly.

    I'm glad that Norway is flying the F-35! But, I'd be just as happy if they were flying your Typhoons! I've always liked the Scandinavian countries, but I like the UK as well!! As an American, we need to cover each other's backs, in world affairs! Anyway...great video brother! Oiii Oiii! Just wondering...what does Oiii Oiii mean? I seriously don't know!

    • @arcticblue248
      @arcticblue248 Рік тому +1

      Yeah ... I think the reason we bought the F-35 where of politics but that said ... they are cool planes, but from where they have their base in Norway they hardly can reach northen norways borders to intercept russian planes, but I understand they have made a fob further north. Earlier this year we saw 2 F-35 do a flyover our town here in Northen norway (I live north east in Finnmark at the coast) ... was cool to see tough.

      You can tell by the unique drag shute pod they have on their back.

    • @TedConingsby
      @TedConingsby  Рік тому +4

      There is a hump/fin on the back towards the engine. You’ll also see the markings on the tail too 🇳🇴

    • @glacieractivity
      @glacieractivity Рік тому +6

      In addition to the parachute hump, you can also clearly see the Norwegian insignia "triple wedge" on their tails. It used to be in red white and blue (the Norwegian flag colours on the F-16, but befitting a stealth aircraft it is now low contrast grey on grey.

    @tomhenggeler3837 Рік тому

    Hey all, I haven’t read all the chat yet, but which variant of the f-35 is this? I’ve not see one with the hump in the back.

    • @TedConingsby
      @TedConingsby  Рік тому +2

      This is based on the F35A. Norway has a modification which includes a drag chute pod. Due to the icy cold climate conditions in Norway, the drag chute can assist the aircraft to come to a full stop. The F35 doesn’t have an air brake so the drag chute addition can help with this. 🇳🇴

    Notice the hump on these Norwegian F35's? Only they have this. Top secret function.

    • @TedConingsby
      @TedConingsby  Рік тому

      Yes, so this is a modified F35A and the modification is the drag chute pod. Due to climate of Norway, these F35s have a chute pod so that it may assist with coming to a full stop in Icy and extreme conditions.
