- Mohan Sharma is a workaholic, whose life changes dramatically after his wife dies upon giving birth to their daughter, Uma. He hates hisdaughter day by day, and adores her when drunk at night. इस फिल्म और जीवन को देख के मै यह कह सकता हु की एक इंसान में किसी के प्रति अगर नफरत भरी हुई है तो एक कोने में जरूर प्रेम जरूर छुपा रहता है. हो सकता है की वो प्रेम जीवन भर सामने न आ पाए. अपने क्रोध और घृणा में अपने उस प्रेम को अगर दिखाना भी चाहे तो नहीं दिखा पाता. लेकिन काली अन्धयारी रात में या अपने अकेलेपन में वो उस छुपे हुवे प्रेम के साथ बाते जरूर करता है. जीवन का खेल ही ऐसा है की परिस्थितिया जीवन को बड़ी पहेलियो में उलझा सी देती है. उसके विचार ही उसकी लगाम और चारदीवारी बन जाते है. वो चाह कर भी कुछ नहीं कर पाता. उसकी स्थिति उमा के पिता जैसी विकट हो जाती है.
कोई भी बुरा नहीं होता. बुरे तो उसके विचार होते है जिससे वो जिंदगी भर लड़ता रहता है. कोई थोडा जीत जाता है और कोई.... बस कहानी का अगला पन्ना रह जाता है.....

A gem of a film! Understated, a classic repertoire of fine sentiment, music, cinematography and heartwarming performances. Everyone did their part very well. But the characters of Moses, Sarala and Annie just walked into my heart to stay for a long long time.

Most understated movie of Hrishikesh Mukherjee collection. At 1.04.14 when Anupama (Sharmila Tagore) speaks for the first time I almost cried with tears, such was the magic of HM movies. Dharmendra and HM again forged a memorable partnership in Chupke Chupke. It was also a known fact that Title role of Movie Anand directed by HM was also falling in Dharmendra's bag as HM had narrated the story to Dharmendra first time but Rajesh Khanna Got luckier to get the role.

Rajesh khanna when heard Anand film story from his friends ran to Hrikesh sahab and told he wants to do the film at any cost.
At that time khanna sahab has many movies in his hand but he still took time everyday for the movie.
@@mukuljs7942 The factum of hearing story of Anand first was narrated by Dharmendra in Kapil Sharma Show. What Actually happened and How Mr Khanna Got that memorable role is best known to either HM or Rajesh Khanna. But I must say Destiny has its own pecular way of achieving things :-)
Think Dharmendra in Anand's role , the combination of frustrating Dharmendra in Satyakam 1969 and comic Dharmendra in Chupke Chupke 1975.

Mostimes its for the best; Rajesh Khanna Ji did true justice to the role of Anand. Not to say thara Dharmendra would not have done so. But Rajesh Ji's performance was so great, i simply cannot imagine anyone else doing that role..

Shashikala ka yehi role ANAND ka plot hai.
The 'khamoshi' Or 'silence' of Uma i.e. Sharmila perfectly matches with the pauses in the music whether it be of songs or background score as well as singers'voices that sounded so soft as if like a whisper, almost like silence. All these things match with the character of Anupama. All the characters were well sketched out and perfectly played by the all talented artists.
The beauty of the movie is such that it takes lots of words n paragraphs to describe. My comments are all over.
