- “It's far from clear to me that they’ll pull the plug on support for Ukraine, they might actually step up support for Ukraine.”
A Trump reelection will not be “massively disastrous” as he could step up aid to Ukraine, says historian Niall Ferguson.

Trump would step up support for Ukraine? Someone please check Niall's meds he must be skipping doses.
He has just become another right wing dbag. The whole right wing thinktank apparatus is just focused on how to spin everything into 'Trump is the best", because he is the only GOP candidate who can garner enough votes to make an election close enough to steal, and the Billionairs who fund the right want total control so that is what they have gone with. If the billionaires who run the GOP were opposed to Trump...his campaign would collapse. The message would get sent to Murdoch, and anyone who didnt toe the line would get cut off from funding, and they need the billionaires because Trump hoovers up the small donors and uses it to pay his legal bills.
Yeah that is beyond ridiculous
Don't confuse conventional wisdom among the chattering classes with reality.
Perfect response. Trump would make a deal with Putin to sell out Ukraine.
Trump will be a better friend to Ukraine than Biden. Two points, Trumps sanctions against Russia were a lot more severe than Bidens….Biden lifted the sanctions against Nordstream before the invasion. And, Biden has helped Ukraine to extent that he has only armed them enough to not lose. How can they win fighting with one arm and not the full kit? Additionally, Pompeo et al, and Trump, will not have another Afghanistan like Bidens pathetic withdraw on their watch…no way
This guy doesn't know a thing! GOP held up funding for Ukraine.
Are you at all familiar with what the GOP wanted in exchange for funding Ukraine? No? Then perhaps you should do some research first.
Joe Biden could have had GOP support on Ukraine aid rather easily, but he refused to agree to do his job defending US borders.
Yes, and Trump was most likely one of the main people behind it! My opinion of Ferguson has gone down watching this.
I'm guessing you don't know WHY the GOP held up funding for Ukraine?

Fun fact: Trump is currently the only US president under who’s watch Putin didnt dare to invade a neghbor.
@@moonbus1743 Far from deterring Putin, Trump did the opposite. Thanks to Trump, Putin was able to take advantage of a period of apparent detente during which Trump actually pursued Putin’s own policies of weakening NATO and democracy and destabilizing the West - leaving Putin free to prepare his war against the free people of Ukraine and their democratically elected government.

BS. You are seriously losing all credit with your so-called experts talking about American politics. This fool knows nothing about American politics and particularly about the GOP and Trump.
Well then please explain how it is possible that it took 6 months to pass the support bill in congres, some baloney 😒
It took several (not 6) months to pass a bill because the GOP wanted Biden to agree to defend the US border if he was asking for money for Ukraine. Biden would not agree to do his job because that would be very unpopular with his base.

The fact of the matter is Trump hasn't said anything about his support for or against Ukraine. Commenters here should find the Brookings listing of the many US sanctions imposed on Russia in 2017-2019. The questionable thing Mr. Ferguson says is that a future t-Rump administration would be any better.
Trump had to be argued into finally imposing sanctions, and agreed to "the level of Europe" meaning, Trump thought, the level of a European country. Instead the administration made the US sanctions the same as the TOTAL of Europe, and Trump was absolutely furious. Also, study how Trump's administration's #1 project was removing sanctions both from the US and from Europe against RUSAL, the firm owned by the guy who had paid well over $20M in political contributions to Republicans in Congress and in Trump's cabinet as well as Trump himself.

Biden wasn't even in govt in 2018. What universe are you in bro? It was Trump who was paid handsomely to their private accounts due to his position in government. He even bragged about it, not in "a video" that you cannot cite because it doesn't exist, but on national TV pretty much constantly. And he WAS in office.

Is it the growing procentige of Latino voters in the US the reason there is so much oversight on 6 January insurrection?
You are right there, Niall, American politics is becoming more Latin American - but with Trump in it will be like Maduro's Venezuela.
Yet, Maduro's political preferences are much, much closer to Biden's than Trump's.
@@FactCheckerGuy Really, just remind us, who said, "On day one, I will be a dictator"? Who hates women? How has they threatened to jail anyone who opposes him? Jail any member of the judiciary who doesn't toe the line? Free hundreds of violent criminals who were doing his bidding? Urged a dictator to attack America's allies?
@@FactCheckerGuy You fact checked that wrong. It's to do with dictatorship vs democracy, not any fancy political preferences. Biden, and by extension the Democrat party, is answerable to the whole US electorate, Maduro only to his few supporters.
Assuming for the sake of argument the national security Republicans mentioned would be tough on Ukraine, why is there the slightest reason to believe Trump would appoint them. Pottinger in particular, who worked seriously on the pandemic and resigned after January 6 is unlikely.
There seem to be two basic flaws with Niall's argument re a Trump presidency and Ukraine. Firstly, that the individuals he mentioned would be in positions of power, and secondly that they'd have any sort of ability to influence his hostility towards the country.
This guy has smoked all the blunt in the US 😂😂😂
Trump is more likely to sell Ukraine to Russia 😂😂😂
My theory has always been that Putin somehow helped Trump get elected in 2016, this is the "secret" Putin is holding over him.... and Trump is now saying in all but words, get me in again and you can have Ukraine. The art of the deal right 🙄 I'm afraid it might be that simple
Do you also believe the "Trump-colluded-with-Russia" lie that has been proved to have been started by Hillary's campaign in 2016?
It’s like Putin himself said, he prefers having a guy like Biden in office because he’s more predictable.

It astounds me that Niall still doesn’t realise that Trump is insane. It’s a tragic demise of an until recently brilliant career
But it's more than just a few right-wing professors like Ferguson. There has been a growing parade of previous never-Trumpers who now can't remember that they ever disliked the guy. Gov. Sununu of New Hampshire, Bill Barr, the list goes on. Something hideous is afoot.

I'm amazed at the obvious lack of acknowledgement of the historical context when discussing Israel's defence strategy outside of it's perilous location.
There is no inclusion of the fact that they now are a small remnant of the population of Jews that historically existed.
Taking historical demographics as the base the population of Jews should be closer to 110 million people not the 15 million that exist in the world.
From the perspective of persistent genocide, we are seeing it occur over the centuries and Jews are very much in that category today.

To mention Pottinger, is to demonstrate a bias or wishful thinking that makes no sense. Pottinger to his credit, testified against Trump
so many comments below seem to assume that NATO memeber countries are incapable of increasing its defense spend to levels of its commitments. Since this is the only condition under which Trump has indicated he woulc reconsider support for Ukraine. I have faith in EU to meet it's goals when the going gets tough.
Why they haven't done that already without Trump urging them?
If that were true it would be a win for Ukraine for NATO and American security with a stable Europe that wont have to see war for years to come but I have my doubts with Trump.
