Comments like yours are rare, and sincerely wish you great time with the scooter! Pretty sure you will like it a lot, and quite easy to ride too.
Also - be careful where you ride it in the UK - there are plenty of restrictions.

Hi Tim, can confirm that uk restrictions would mean that if you use it on the road/paths then the police will confiscate it. They sell similar models at Halfords and that's what I saw on their website.
Tried one in America though and it was bloody fantastic. Enjoy yourself safely!

The Rozzers have much more important crimes to solve/deal with, than to concentrate all their efforts on catching people riding scooters. They've got to catch you first🙂anyway. Great review btw, almost made up my mind about buying one and I'm a male of 55.

Hi Tim, I understand the feeling. I'm 62 and bought an M365 last April, purely for the 3 mile commute to work. Was a bit concerned about how I would be viewed, by workmates, family, friends. An old fart out of his comfort zone trying desperately to be cool, or an innovator willing to try new and upcoming stuff.
Workmates...loved it. Apart from one manager who told me to stop joyriding around the carpark (I was only riding from the smoking shed to the cycle lock up place, honest).
Family....bit concerned, they know I'm daft, but supportive.
      Friends...same.
What we, at our age, have to be aware of is...We're older now and do NOT mend as well as we did, we're not made out of rubber and springs anymore!
I've been knocked off by a car, who just do NOT seem to see you even though you're a big guy in a massive hi viz jacket. Broke, BROKE not cracked, 5 ribs, 2 weeks off and £1k lost wages.
Hit by a thrown rock to my head, hosp for 6 days, bleed inside skull, broken elbow, massive hip injury, still off work 5 weeks later.
      Not rubber and springs anymore.
      Helmet and elbow pads, minimum.
But shit, this thing (Now got a etwow gt) is so much FUN!!!
Can I ask...what scooter did you get?

@@TechMishka some things I know from some scooter communities.
      - solid tires (also the ones with holes) aren't good, not because of suspension - but because of vibration damaging battery solder points.
      - rear light has to be secured against water almost immediately after purchase. Lots of hot glue and a way of reinforcing the blug at the back.
      - tighten your screws every week if you're a 3-4 day rider of longer routes.
      - folding lock change every 1000 km...
and that's the basic thing next to extensive care of the ball bearings...

I bought a M365 exactly one year ago and I really like it. Here in Los Angeles several companies used this model originally for their rental fleet. For awhile I was a Mechanic for Bird so I was able to completely take apart everything many times which helped me learn how to fix my own. All the rental companies have cut off the foldable hinge mechanism and have replaced it with a rigid collar (but it makes the pole a few inches shorter). I also bought some merchandise from Curious Joe and his products are top notch. His cover for the little hook on the rear fender is fantastic.
Last week I upgraded the firmware to version 1.5.1 and it also upgraded the bluetooth modules firmware which now blocks all third party apps including M365DownG so I can't flash/downgrade the bluetooth back to ver 072. I believe you mentioned that their is a way to downgrade back which I'd love to hear about.

Getting ready to buy my first scooter ever at 62. I'm excited about the electric scooters. Didn't even realize they existed! Now it's just about which one...Great video, helps me to understand what maintenance is needed. Haven't had a car for years, this will be my car. It's something I can actually afford and it looks like so much fun, I can't wait. I've been recovering from agoraphobia (fear of leaving home) for many years. Hi. I bought for three days ago and mine is updated with the 1.4.2. firmware. I live in Italy and if you believe me, at my second charge, I did it twice 40 km. But my weight is 59 kg. I drive in a big town making many stops, at night with the light on too. The only problem I had was on the brake ...it had a small imperfection, but I have solved it bending the disc to the opposite direction a little. Now to say I am happy is reductive!!! I would never buy the pro version because it weights 2 kg more than mine. I put also a belt so now is very comfortably portable. Fantastic!!!

Big advantage of the Xiaomi M365 is the wide availability of replacement parts. Also the motor is actually capable of 500 W output but only limited to 250W by the software. Heavier riders can tweak it to optimize acceleration and speed. I'm using full solid tires without the small holes and the soft rubber material is a good compromise for ride quality and durability. For harsher riding conditions it is a very good idea to place a vibration dampening between the battery cover and the heavy battery or the soldered battery contacts are going to break for sure.I purchased the scooter in 2017 and used it for 3200km so far.

    I'm 6 1 225lbs
    16mph no kicking
    19.5 kicking
    22-25 mile range.
I carried the charger in my backpack & charged at ciffee shops, grocery stores & libraries etc...
Charge dead to full is about 5hours (driving in my van, I had it charging)
I put 500 miles in about a year (I travel and took it with me a lot).
$990 scooter that substituted for a bike (average GOOD bike $400) but was so durable & fun.
Rainstorm and sidewalk submerged puddles, off sidewalks, down Las Vegas Blvd with a group of 40 PEDAL bikes.
Still sold it for $400 in September 2015.

With proper technique of jumping and lifting your weight from scooter when jumping on curb or any uneven surface, you can protect the tires from the stress.

Except people are dying like flies in road accidents. At this point, it's even possible they could be banned in some countries.
Using a scooter instead of walking means many will travel on the car street instead of the sidewalk. Scooters may be doomed to be banned.
They need the kind of strong brakes that bicycles have. Unfortunately, if you could brake that hard with a scooter you'd fly over the handle into the car/bus.

I LOVE my M365 PRO. Every day, 12,9 km to go to work, and 12,9 to go home, plus often other kms for errands. Currently total of 900 km. No problems, no punctures (I keep both tires at 48-50 PSI as recommended!), only satisfaction.
After abt 26 km (go to work and come back to home) I read 47-51% of residual battery charge! Consider that I use it in a busy big city. I use the car only if strictly necessary (mostly having to transport other people).
M365 Pro + backpack + bike helmet = freedom in my city, even for a (not big) grocery shopping.
This is not a toy. This is a serious, robust, reliable means of transport. I was happily surprised!
...too bad it is so hard on holes and manholes: I always have to check & avoid... :-(

Thats a great info regarding the fender holder! So, I will do another two experiments: First i will install some heatingpads for the battery so they dont loss that much capacity, Secondly, I will change my dashboard to the obviously compatible m365 pro display. :)

You can always make your own battery. The standard battery uses 2600mah cells in a 10s3p layout. If you use 3500mah cells in 10s3p, you can get 10.5ah up from 7.8ah with the same footprint....if you want to get mildly creative, you can extend the battery case cover a cm or so, switch to 10" tyres for clearance and run a 10s4p battery setup, which, with Samsung 35q batteries is 14ah.
With a 10s4p 14ah battery and rider weight of 97kg, I'm getting around 25-30km distance on uneven, undulating footpath in sports mode, and up to 50km in Eco mode on flatter bike paths and even road.
I'm all for range, and I'm happy to assist up steep hills.

I've done over 330 miles on mine and I have made no modifications to the folding mechanism. It was "loose" out the box. I think that it is on purpose. Also I once accidentally rode mine without locking the folding mechanism and it never collapsed on me. I think that says a lot about how strong the mechanism is and that the concerns may be overblown. @@TechMishka

Thanks Mark. It is rare to see these days someone sitting down and taking his time to write such a wonderful post.
I have to admit that despite your positive tone about my English, there are some areas of improvement that I am working on.
      To your question:
These days I'm testing the Turboant X7 Pro and realize how nicer it is to have bigger tires. It performs in a great way and has detachable battery, which to me is a gamechanger (prefer to keep the scooter in the garage and not to leave it charging unattended).
Generally the Mi Scooter Pro 2 is also a great choice - very polished and with smooth riding.
Usually - bad roads means more punctures - so you may have to eventually think about solid tires, and if that's the case - I'd think about the Mi Scooter series as there are really a lot of spare parts and mods available for them.
Let's put it like that - I live in Sofia - which has pretty bad infrastructure about bikes and scooters. The Mi Scooter often goes through dusty, muddy and bumpy areas and is still fine. Guess the newer models will be even better 🙃
I hope this helps - although not a too definite response.... Guess it is about prioritizing comfort or tire size. Maybe the Ninebot Max has them both?

I own Segway Ninebot ES2 for a year and very happy about it, no issues yet. But the only thing I really miss is inflatable tires (ES2 has solid ones). The reason - sidewalks and roads are bumpy quite often in location where I live, and vibration from solid tires sometimes doesn't feel comfortable. Also, I'm worried that this vibration really harms the scooter. So I'm looking to buy Mijia and use it with inflated wheels :) I read feedback from some Mijia owners, and they say that with proper maintenance it's possible to avoid flat tires. They recommend to change original tires to a better quality ones and always watch pressure in the wheel, it has to stay high all the time. They also say that original tires have internal rubber defects which wear the inner tube.

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  5 років тому

Yes, my front tire initially punctured because of these defects. ANd perhaps 2 out of the 4 flat tires were caused due to bad maintenance from my side. But I don't want to be checking on the pressure all the time. and losing confidence in a piece of tech is a bad thing. Now, after the swap, I ride much more often.
But the truth is that it depends on where you live. If it is a place will well maintained infrastructure - there is a minor chance to get flat tires.

You must apply tire sealant (slime-type, google it) to prevent any future flats and have your tires well inflated to get better performance and battery life. Do not even think about getting those solid tires, I saw a lot of negative reviews of those tires. The main issue they had is that the maximum range got much worse than it used to be.
You should flash the custom firmware, too. I'd recommend you to disable KERS (automatic regeneration) entirely (yes, you heard that right), applying the Russian acceleration algorithm (you'll have to disable the cruise control, but that's not a big deal, because no KERS + Russian algorithm is a great alternative to cruise control) and to change the mode to ECO and never change it back to normal. If you want, you can also adjust the power output to 600W or 650W to make the scooter accelerate faster on ECO mode (you'll get 300W or 325W respectively).
Oh, and you should also get ready to fix your rear mud flap, since it can break off fairly easily.

@@Nedev There was no visible difference after I poured tire sealant into the tubes. It won't ruin anything unless you pour too much. The Kugoo S1 in no way feels of better quality than the M365.
The problem is that batteries are still too expensive. A friend of mine is going to release a chopper-like scooter - which is extremely durable (three units are being tested on a daily basis on the roads of Sofia, and the quality of roads here is not good at all). The price is however twice the M365. When he showed me all the details of his work, the origin of parts and so on - well - at the end of the day it looks like "you get what you pay for" is sort of right. Still - the M365 is so far unbeaten in terms of bang for the buck.

I can tell you! 😎👍 Bad roads + bad maintenance. I believe three out of my four flat tires are because I was not keeping them at the right pressure.
The first days after I released the video I got a few comments criticizing a lot the solid tires. And started to analyze "why". And figured that out quite easily - it is mostly due to the roads - if you have proper streets - it is unlikely the tires to wear off soon. However if they are continuously stressed by bumps - the situation changes.
I will certainly not go back to the inflatables... But am considering tubeless + slime for my next round.

I got 2 flats in 1100km. Poured some tire sealant (it's very easy actually, and costs much less than buying new tires) and never had a flat tire since. It also helps if you have a bad tube and get flats constantly simply because it's bad. 8.5" tube tires are MUCH better than all other tire variants, especially both tubeless tires that are available. I managed to go 50km on a single charge because I used those tube tires which are lighter than other tires. My weight is about 65kg, my tires were well inflated and I ran it with my own custom firmware to maximize the range.
Higher speeds don't matter. Going very fast constantly (and especially accelerating all the time) kills the battery. You can install custom firmware though and make the motor pull up to 1000W. It can actually go even faster, though pulling more than 800W can damage the engine and really kills the battery life.
I'd recommend changing the max speed on ECO mode to 25km/h and (if you're too heavy) to change the power output to 600W or and never ever switch to Normal mode. What I did to maximize my battery life is disable automatic energy regeneration entirely (yes, really, constantly slowing down by regenerating and speeding up to maximum speed has a negative effect on the battery life), use a Russian acceleration algorithm (the lever will be controlling the wattage, the more you push, the more energy will be going into the motor) to have smoother acceleration (knowing the right way to accelerate in order to save some extra energy) and to have an alternative to cruise control, which also worsens the battery life, in a way. My driving experience remains the same, however, so it's not something only hypermilers that would sacrifice everything to have maximum range, no matter what. You may instead get the complete opposite, a much better driving experience. I got exactly that.

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  5 років тому

Михаил - respect! This is one of the most awesome comments I've ever read about the M365 - and it looks like you are a fan of sqeezing the maximum out of the battery. The idea about ECO mode is fantastic - I use it a lot - mostly because I find the non-eco mode too ... lazy. Just want to combine some exercise by kick-moving, and also the pelasure of feeling the wind when it gets too hot :-)
DO you mind sharing your firmware build? I am quite keen on trying something different, and yours sounds like something quite fun. Unfortunately I am way heavier (around 90), but it might work well.
Also - which tubeless model do you find best?

    • @one_step_sideways
      @one_step_sideways 5 років тому +1

@@TechMishka I don't find any tubeless model the best. I recommend installing tube tires and using the tire sealant to make those tires indestructible. But I guess the best tubeless tires are the ones with holes, since they can theoretically absorb more vibration and are lighter. The lighter the tires are, the easier it is to spin them for the motor, thus increasing the range. Regular tube tires are the lightest.
      My firmware build is:
      Base firmware - 1.3.8
      KERS speed - 40.0
Top speed Normal mode - 31

Using weak regeneration also helps. To regenerate energy while braking, you need to lightly press the brakes. If you press the brakes all the way, the motor will instead be using a different method of slowing down that involves spending energy instead of regenerating it. This method is used for emergency situations only and isn't the recommended way of braking. It also generates a ton of heat.
If you're running low on juice, you can press the brakes lightly and start kick-moving while still standing on the scooter to generate some energy. If you're really low on energy, however, and don't want to charge your scooter that way, you can also leave the scooter on and start kick-moving as well. The feature that lets your scooter automatically spin the motor to match your walking speed and make dragging your scooter easier will keep spinning the motor if you turn off KERS, like I did, so it helps you to move around easier while kick-moving.

Michael..Great video ... I've had my M365 coming on to two years now and yes there have been punctures, but i get less now because i cut an old inner tube to fit around a new inner tube , also i dont use my phone for info now, i have fitted an M365 OLED dashboard ua-cam.com/video/5V0O234T_bE/v-deo.html definitely the best mod to the scooter . One thing i did do right at the start of ownership was to insert foam between the inside battery cover and batteries to prevent any movement at all , i have had no problems whatsoever . Lastly for the total removal of stem movement at the joint i cut out plastic from a old loyalty card.. cost - zero , effectiveness - 100% .. i don't fold my scooter anymore so i used a large cable grip and threaded it into the hinge handle , rock solid .... after almost 2 years ownership .... extremely happy with my scooter :) .

I really really really like the electric scooter m365 made by xiaomi, which makes me love to go out by riding. So far, I've been working on better accessories for it, like these solid tires, link: amzn.to/2u98XwF. With the solid tires, you don't have to worry about the tires getting a puncture on the gravel road anymore, lol. Although safety comes first, I prefer the smooth ride.
