I have to say, I am so glad you customized my Iron Rangers with the new sole. They are extremely comfortable and very quiet when walking. You're the best!
I've had three pairs of iron rangers re-soled in my lifetime and each time they became throwaways, why? Because when Red Wing shoes are resoled they no longer fit, they're always too short and tight... RESOLING RED WING SHOES IS A SCAM ...!
Just my opinion, but that type of sole is what Red Wing should make as an option for the Iron Ranger. I like that. I have seen that sole and it is nice for comfort. Great looking pair of boots. Very good upgrade. I hope the owner has happy feet.
The Iron Rangers are most comfortable with the original mini lugs if you ask me. They seem to have less damping but in the end the somewhat harder soles make it easier to walk long distances. They are also more grippy than you think and flexible at the same time.
The iron ranger is an ok boot. If they spent few more hours in production going over details. Leather midsole first and foremost. Whoever does the cutting of tongue, quarters, and vamps clearly does not gauge the leather. I bought one ranger years ago on eBay “not seconds” and one foot was 1.4mm and the other was .7-.8 on tongues. Totally fucked the boot. The redwing heritage collection always has loose threads, irregular and narrow spacing on the outsole welt stitch. My opinion is wait and save a few hundred more dollars and get yourself a nicks or a whites
Your reconstructions are top notch, Aaron! I love my boots and like watching cobblers on UA-cam, and the quality you deliver is matched by only the very few. I hope people watching these kind of videos will eventually see yours. You deserve more viewers! Happy belated birthday! Hope you were happy with your new boots!
I’ve had my IR for a year and they are not comfortable at all lol. I was gonna try and just sell them on eBay but now I’m just gonna find a cobbler and get new soles. I love the looks and the history
Happy Birthday Aarón!🎉 you’re a 100% correct about these Vibram soles. You did 2 pairs of Iron Rangers for me last year with those soles and I love them. I’m selling a lot of my Red Wings but those are staying with me because of how comfortable they are. Big difference. Cuídate hermano! 🤝👍
Just found your channel a couple days ago. I've watched several of your videos now, you do excellent work my friend. You are inspiring, I'm glad to see there are still some good craftsman around
It's a completely different boot; I'd go for a rebuild if I owned a pair or Iron Rangers but think it would be better for me just to pony up the cash for a pair of Nick's; still debating on either walnut or brown CXL and either lug or V-bar sole.
Those look great and super comfortable. I agree with you that stock, Iron Rangers feel like Roman sandals. Happy birthday, Aaron. Hope your new boots arrive soon!
Sew and sanding lines are beautiful. To me this is super important. Also, adding that leather midsole fixes my biggest cosmetic gripe about the boot. I know who I will be getting to resole my boots when the time comes!
I totally agree. Why does it not come from the factory with that midsole??? Just look how much better that is! It looks like something is missing in the original boot.
The original sole are so damn uncomfortable. Luckily the soles on mine are just about ready to be swapped out👌 Sweet video! I always wondered how boots got resoled.
Buenos videos Aaron... Y excelente trabajo 👌🏽 Tarde pero seguro feliz cumpleaños amigo Dios te bendiga y mucho éxito.... Esperemos ya lleguen tus botas para checarlas 🥾

@gentleman3 how were your knees damaged? And why do you think this happened with the Iron Rangers? Thank you. I am looking into buying a pair but I have knee arthritis and know they are hard. I was planning to use a Superfeet Thin Insole to help a little. But I wonder if that will be enough. I also have the Redwing 8138 & 10877. No knee issues with those so far.
You can get the soles replace by a softer soles Instead of the Mini Lug iron Ranger come with, It’ll make a whole difference Vibram 1705 is one of the softest and more comfortable Vibram soles.

Correct, way softer than the original totally different material.
How long does this sole last ? Is it similar to the Christie in wear or longer?
I can’t answer that, it really depends on what you do with your boots, it’s slightly softer and way more comfortable than Christy
