Triumph Daytona 660 (2024) review: is it a ‘real’ Daytona?

  • The Triumph Daytona 660 is here to take on the repositioned supersport sector, where screaming inline four-cylinder track weapons are out, and more road-focused user-friendly machines are in.
    This means the new Daytona is shaping up to compete against bikes like the Yamaha R7, Honda CBR650R, Aprilia RS660, and Kawasaki Ninja 650. Each is a road-focused sports bike first and foremost, although the Triumph has something none of the current bikes do, an inline three-cylinder engine.

    Alright. I'll be putting down a deposit to preorder this tomorrow. I do not care about the "real Daytona" comments. I just want a good quality sports bike as I'm getting back into riding since my FZ-07 was stolen in June 2022.

      Agree 100%. It looks good, sounds good, and hits a good price point. Probably a really enjoyable bike to ride with a "sporty but not horrible" riding position.

      @JoshuaHults The 675 is crippling to ride unless you're super fit. I had 2012 but changed to a 675r street triple. This new bike is much more road focused for todays crap roads.

    So many people are getting upset over a name. No, it's not a Daytona 675 or 765 Moto 2. It is affordable. It will sell in numbers and will attract newer riders into the sportsbike class.
    It's a road bike, not a race bike. Typically, journalists are moaning it's soft but, in reality, more friendly for the majority of newer normal riders.

    Why do reviewers keep comparing this bike to the Trident and not the Tiger Sport 660? You know, the other 660 with a fairing that has "Sport" in its name.

    • @NicePantsLance
      @NicePantsLance 3 місяці тому +6

      The Trident is a naked roadster, and the Daytona is its sport bike counterpart. Same as the old street triple/daytona comparison.
      The Tiger Sport 660 is an upright middleweight sport touring. It does share the engine, but otherwise i think the Trident is a more accurate comparison

    I love honest reviews. This has told me everything I need to know.
    I had a street triple for 12 years and part exed for RnineT.

    Triumph have winner on their hands.

  • @NicePantsLance
    @NicePantsLance 3 місяці тому +5

    Daytonas have had 2, 3, and 4 cylinder engines. They've been big comfy touring bikes (955i). They've been track weapons (675/765). The 90's Daytona 750 barely made 97hp and looked like a space ship.
    People didnt stop buying new sport bikes because sport riding is out of style, they stopped buying them because they're all $13k+ out the door! The Daytona 660 is priced so well it may help make the scene popular again. There are 6 motorcycles in this particular segment now.
    Triumph fans need to stop being so critical, and need to support their brand more. Support by actually buying a motorcycle from them.
    The rest of the brands could fart into a jar and their customer base would arrive cash in hand. Why can't the Triumph fanbase be more understanding?

    95 hp with over 50 lb-ft of torque are more than enough for the suspension to be well sprung/damped for spirited riding. The Daytona moniker only exacerbates the issue. A bit of a disappointment but it is easy for Triumph to rectify on future versions.

      I agree with most of your comment, but the market has changed. The 675/765 daytona were the only really sporty daytona's. Look back through the history of Hinckley Daytona's 600,650,900,1200, t595, 955i none of them were as sporty as the competition. For that reason, I have no problem with the name.

      @@trevorphillips3055 But they messed up by making the daytona their sport bike, and it has been the case for over a decade. back in 2002 ii had a 955i daytona, 151hp single sided swing arm centennial edition, but even I do not associate the name to that bike, but to the 675 I owned. I do not think it is a complete heresy just think by using the daytona name it is impossible to not link this bike to the previous, and the step backwards in unavoidable to notice. If they had named it the trident R, which is basically what it is, then it makes perfect sense and nobody can criticize the downstep as there is none! The 600/650 and 1200 Daytonas had 4-cylinders in them and people still call them Daytonas.
