Good up date on your beautiful trees. My JB bought as a #5 in July 2020 has 20 or so fruits for the first time, excited to try them. Topped it at 10 feet or so due to Santa Ana Winds, will keep it under 15. Thx for the videos
Let us know how they taste
Very nice looking trees you have going there. Where did you get the mystery tree? Maybe that owner of the previous might have a clue. Excellent selection of varieties.
Mystery tree was left in the ground by the previous owner, they didn’t water it and I grew it back from near death.
Scott thanks for showing a update on your trees. I always enjoy watching your videos. Hard to say what your mystery avocado tree is. It’s description of the fruit doesn’t ring any bells. You did say that it was grafted too which rules out any seedling.
The flavor of the fruit is good, has a pepper taste. Very thin skin. The wind has knocked some off the tree and some have just come off. Theres 3 left from what I can see. I want them to hold as long as possible.
Could it possibly be Ettinger ?
@@williambutler4976 If he posts the seed shape it may help narrow down possibilities. There are more green skin types from among Texas/Florida suppliers. It does seem like the previous home owner picked up something odd.
Avo7bProject I think you might be right.
Pretty sure you got a Stuart, looks just like mine.
I can’t imagine the previous owner putting anything other than a basic store bought avocado tree there. From either Lowes or HD.
From not tasting the mystery avocado, using Occam's razor, my guess would be Bacon due to the season and how the fruit looks. Up here I wouldn't describe them as peppery though as much as buttery. Some people love them and some people don't. They grow very upright, are easy to grow and are often the heaviest producing.
Could be Bacon
I enjoy your videos. I have a question, My Monroe avocado tree in a pot gave me 3 huge avocados I just harvested this week.I just transplanted into a huge 27" pot. just like your video. I live in San Antonio TX. can I also prune it down? or do I have to wait?
I wouldn’t prune it until it shows no signs of any shock from the transplant
@@TheElsinoreGardener thanks..
I have a question for you @The Elsinore Gardener - one of my avocado plants is 1.5yrs old and has lost all it's leaves. The branch tips are now turning black and the base of the stem near the seed is also turning black. I've been watering regularly and my other 5 avocado plants of the same age are doing fine and still have all their leaves. Is this root rot? If so, what do you recommend I do?
It does sound like some kind of rot, what I do in these cases, instead of trying to rehab the tree, it’s just remove it and put a new tree in new soil and make sure you have good drainage. Not all trees are going to make it, and I’ve killed a few of them over the years experimenting. Just my opinion.
This skin is a mexican type
I think it is
it's a Bacon Avocado
Looks like it could be. We’ll see when I open one on camera for everyone to see
